Former five-star quarterback Charlie Cooke announces transfer to UCF on eve of USF's national championship game
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer
Former USF sophomore quarterback Charlie Cooke has announced his transfer to the University of Central Florida, one of the teams he spurned on National Signing Day two years ago to sign with USF.
Cooke, the former top ranked recruit in his class, has been away from the team since November in what was described by USF head coach Malcolm Francois Sr. as an excused leave of absence for personal reasons. The personal reasons were never disclosed.
The Alabama native lost the quarterback competition to former three-star quarterback Jared Chavis in the off-season and when given an opportunity, he's thrown three interceptions in nine pass attempts this season but flashed as a true freshman last season, beating Texas and throwing for four touchdowns in his lone start.
Spence will start in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game tomorrow against Alabama.

Waters' two pick sixes turn the game for Bulls in sixth national championship
USF true freshman defensive back K.J. Waters might want to invest in some property out west.
After clinching the College Football Playoff Semi Final win in the Rose Bowl against USC with an interception, Waters twice intercepted Alabama's Eric Henley, including a fourth quarter pick six to beat the Tide 34-20 and hand deliver USF it's sixth national championship.
Even with an undefeated season and having already beaten Alabama earlier in the season, the Bulls did it under tough circumstances with quarterback Jared Chavis leaving the game in the second quarter with a concussion.
With the game tied up entering the fourth quarter, Millines led his best drive of the game, ending with a two-yard touchdown run. He led the team in rushing with 86 yards, averaging nearly six yards per carry.
On the ensuing possession, Henley tried to respond with a touchdown drive of his own only to be intercepted by Waters who returned it for a touchdown once more with 4:27 left in the game. Alabama was then faced with a third and long on the next drive and chose to run a draw play which was quickly stopped and promptly criticized by fans in the stadium who booed and critics at home.
USF's running game was then able to put the game away on the ground, never giving the ball back to Alabama to earn its sixteenth win of the season and 30th in a row, the latter a school record and the former an NCAA record for most wins in a single season.

Missouri hires USF's Peter Nicholson as next head football coach
Anthony Washington -- The Tampa Bay Chronicles
The University of Missouri has hired USF offensive coordinator Peter Nicholson to be their next head coach following the firing of Brandon Pierre who failed to keep the Tigers safe from demotion after just one season in the Champions Division.
It will be Nicholson's first head coaching opportunity after a one-year stint with the Bulls where he led a talented but relatively unexperienced offense to a national championship and a top ten finish. Nicholson is inheriting a team that is not void of talent which had six of the last seven Big XII championships and won at least ten games six times since 2030 before winning just four games last season.
The Tigers went 9-4 in the Contenders Division in 2037, earning a promotion into the Champions Division which was short lived. Nicholson will be tasked with getting the Tigers back into the Champions Division which is very lucrative for its members with the payout structure of the ANAC.

Another extension, pay raise for Francois Sr. following sixth national championship
Anthony Washington -- The Tampa Bay Chronicles
The University of South Florida has extended head football coach Malcolm Francois through 2042, adding another year to his current deal and rising his annual base salary from $20 million to $25 million to keep him as college football's highest paid coach.
Francois Sr. will be tasked with replacing yet another coaching staff following the departure of offensive coordinator Peter Nicholson to Missouri, making it back to back seasons that USF has lost its offensive coordinator.
USF was reportedly interested in hiring Brandon Pierre as Nicholson's replacement but shortly after his interview with USF, Pierre took the head coaching job with Missouri. In a recent speaking engagement, Francois was openly critical of Missouri's decision to fire Pierre when speaking to a conference for aspiring African-American football coaches.
"The standard for us is higher," Francois told the attendees, "You have schools like Missouri, great football coach in [Pierre] and they fire him after one season. A whole lot of winning and they'll throw it away the moment you falter because, quite frankly, they don't expect you to succeed so when you do its a surprise or its this or that but when you fail, well, it was expected so they'll move on your ass."
In speaking to those close to the program, Nicholson did not have Francois Sr's 'blessing' to take the Missouri head coaching job and the two have not spoken since.
A few top names to watch with Pierre off the board is former USF offensive coordinator Jeremy Butler who was fired by Charlotte after just one season, Kent State offensive coordinator Ryan Day who Francois Sr. has met with in the past to discuss schemes and UCF offensive coordinator Morris Carter who is a rising name in coaching circles. It certainly wouldn't be lost on Francois Sr. about how much of a dagger it would be for UCF to lose Carter to a lateral move.

USF quarterback Jared Chavis announces intention to enter the NFL Draft
Cooper Byrd -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer
USF starting quarterback and redshirt junior Jared Chavis has announced on social media that he intends to enter the NFL Draft, foregoing his last season of college eligibility.
In his lone season as a starter, Chavis went 16-0 and threw for 4,930 yards and 40 touchdowns, completing 73.5 percent of his passes while rushing for an additional 528 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. His eight fumbles and twenty-one interceptions will surely be a talking point during the NFL scouting process but Chavis, a former three-star recruit, was one of the more well rounded quarterbacks in college football this season.
Chavis is the first domino to fall, on offense, as USF awaits the decisions of junior receivers Maurice Bennett and D.J. Manning. USF is losing their top receiver Jarod Green to graduation so returning either one -- preferably both -- would be a huge boost to presumed starter next season, Jet Millines.
