UCF, UCLA, and Washington officials meet with ANAC board to discuss potential exodus
Jessica West -- SI.com
School officials from the University of Central Florida, University of California - Los Angeles and the University of Washington are the latest to meet with the ANAC board of directors regarding their potential payout should they leave the conference.
The board of directors voted weeks ago to move forward with the contraction of the three-division conference from 48 members to 42 with the six teams expected to come from their lowest ranked division, the Rising Division.
Duke, NC State, South Carolina and Clemson were among the first to meet with the board and have an agreement in principle to join the American Athletic Conference with the AAC and ANAC splitting the agreed upon contraction buyout clause. Contenders Division member North Carolina is also reportedly in talks with the American Athletic Conference to join the other Carolina schools.
The Big XII has shown interest in adding UCF back into the fold as they were conference members prior to their exodus to join the ANAC. The Big XII is also expected to pursue Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Iowa, Kansas and Kentucky as potential additions should the board of directors elect to contract any of those schools. Washington and UCLA are the 'main targets' for the Pac-12 according to a source.
If a voluntary agreement isn't reached by the end of the calendar year, per conference bylaws, the board of directors would vote on which teams would be voted out of the conference. Both the board of directors and the potentially impacted schools would rather avoid such an occurrence thus creating the frenzy for potential schools on the chopping block to jump ship rather than be forced out.

USF takes the Nittany Lions to the woodshed in 52-3 beatdown
USF freshman quarterback Mark Cunningham was a high school freshman when he committed to play for Penn State. Three years later, he would spurn the Nittany Lions for the Bulls as the nation's top quarterback.
On third and 21 with a chance to potentially make it a one possession game heading into the second half, Cunningham ripped off a 24-yard run to pick up the first down and eventually lead the Bulls to another touchdown drive to extend their lead to twenty one points at halftime.
Cunningham and Jet Millines combined for 406 passing yards in the USF's 52-3 win over Penn State on Saturday afternoon as the Nittany Lions high powered offense was completely grounded.
Penn State quarterback Kaleb McCauley had just four passing yards in the first half as Penn State twice were unable to capitalize from long runs from McCauley and had to settle for a field goal and punted the other time. McCauley finished the game with 72 passing yards and just 42 rushing yards with all of the rushing yards coming in their first drive.

USF star freshman running back Jacob Wheeler to miss rest of regular season with shoulder injury
Johnny Murray -- The Tampa Bay Times Sports Columnist
USF head coach Malcolm Francois Sr. confirmed to the media that freshman running back Jacob Wheeler will miss the rest of the regular season after suffering a shoulder injury that will require surgery.
Wheeler suffered the injury in the team's blowout win over Penn State, leaving the game in the first quarter after being tackled to the ground on what looked like a fairly routine play.
The Tampa Jesuit graduate is the team's leader in carries (99), rushing yards (671) and yards per carry at 6.7 which is tied for the most in the Champions Division among ball carriers with at least 60 carries. Wheeler also caught 22 passes out of the backfield for 198 yards in his rookie campaign that will make him a candidate for Freshman All-American selections.
Wheeler's injury will likely result in a bigger role for senior Eric Valentine, the former five-star running back that has mainly been a goal-line option with eleven touchdowns on the season. The Bulls will also lean on Kellen Wright for more explosive plays as he's second on the team in carries (86) and yards (448) along with 31 receptions, the fifth most on the roster.

Bulls dominate the Hurricanes to keep East Region Championship, Automatic Bid in play
A year ago, USF's offense couldn't do anything against the Miami Hurricanes, scoring just fourteen points while averaging less than five yards per pass attempt and being held to 2.6 yards per carry on the ground while Miami's rushing attack went for 261 yards.
Even with Elliot Ingram's 68-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, the Hurricanes offense finished the day with just 56 yards on the ground as it was their turn to be completely grounded by the South Florida Bulls defense who paved the way for a dominant 56-16 victory for USF to keep their East Region Championship hopes alive.
It was South Florida native Jet Millines who set it off with three touchdown passes in the first half, including the electrifying 39-yard connection to a wide open Joseph Moses after manipulating the pocket and the Hurricanes pass rush. Millines only needed a half to throw for 325 yards and four touchdown as true freshman Mark Cunningham finished the game for the Bulls, throwing two touchdowns of his own.
The Bulls rushing attack was led by Kellen Wright who rushed for 117 yards in the absence of Jacob Wheeler and also led the team in receiving with eleven receptions for 112 yards, becoming the first USF player to top 100 yards in rushing and receiving in the same game since Derek Young.
With the loss, the Hurricanes failed to clinch the East Region and now need to beat Penn State next week to play in the Champions Division Final.

Florida State beats out USF, Ole Miss for elite safety prospect in Orlando's Kevin Malloy
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider
The nation's third ranked strong safety prospect, Kevin Malloy, has committed to Florida State University, picking the Seminoles out of a top five that included Ole Miss, Duke, Washington and USF.
Malloy had officially visited USF a few weeks ago during the Georgia Tech week and the coaching staff was confident they'd be able to pair him with another top 100 prospect in IMG safety Julian Harrell.
With Malloy off the board, it brings the recruitment of Clarence Sullivan back at the forefront. The five-star safety is currently out on bond on charges in relation to his involvement in an armed robbery. Since the arrest, Sullivan has reportedly met in person with the Bulls coaching staff who have been in constant communication with Sullivan and his family.
While Sullivan's legal situation will ultimately have the biggest say in this, Malloy's commitment to Florida State does open the door some more from a football perspective to view Sullivan as a 'take' for USF if his legal situation is resolved.
"The coaching staff and everyone in that building loves the kid," said a source close to the situation, "[USF's coaching staff] feel like they have a good understanding of what happened, he's been open with them about what happened, what's going to happen and they feel confident that if he's able to take care of [the charges], he's a guy they feel comfortable bringing in."
In other recruiting news, USF is trending in the right direction with four-star quarterback Rashad Woodard who was on campus this weekend and they've zeroed in as their top quarterback prospect in recent weeks. Another four-star quarterback in Will Jones will be on campus this weekend after visiting Rutgers last weekend but Woodard remains their top target.
