Tampa is buzzing following a 42-10 win over USC
A former four-star safety, USF linebacker Kyle Locher put together one of the best defensive seasons in recent history last year in his first year at the position, sweeping the defensive awards. Six games into his second season at linebacker, he looks prime to do it again.

Locher intercepted Ira Prater twice, forced a fumble and led the game with eleven tackles as USF soundly beat the USC Trojans 42-10 on Saturday night to earn their fifth win of the season.

USF running backs Jacob Wheeler and Kellen Wright both rushed for over 100 yards and each had a return touchdown with Wheeler returning a kickoff in the first quarter and Wright returning a punt for a touchdown in the third quarter to extend their lead. Both also rushed for a touchdown.

Three-star West Palm Beach linebacker Eric Robinson commits to the Bulls
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

USF's coaching staff landed another commitment to their top ranked 2042 class with three-star linebacker Eric Robinson committing to the Bulls over Florida and Virginia.

The 35th ranked inside linebacker is an intriguing project for defensive coordinator and linebacker's coach Trai Martinez as Robinson's high school tape is fun to watch and the potential is very evident. The only question -- and it's a big one -- is what exactly is Robinson? When you turn on the tape, Robinson is a down-hill thumper at the high school but at six-feet and 216 pounds, that game is not likely to translate at the next level at his size. He has the athletic profile of an outside linebacker in sub packages but he's struggled in coverage.

A comparable prospect in recent years is Joel Espinosa who was a much higher ranked prospect and a bit thicker than Robinson coming out of high school. Espinosa has mainly been a special team's guy and has played some limited snaps at outside linebacker this season which is likely Robinson's path as well.

On campus with Robinson this past weekend was running back Justin Thomas who did not pull the trigger with his commitment. Instead, the five-star prospect remains committed to visiting Virginia, Ohio State and LSU later this season. The Bulls are expected to continue pressing for Thomas' commitment and are going to try their best to get him to make the two-hour trip from Fort Myers to Tampa as often as possible to catch some Saturday games.

The Bulls are still optimistic that they will be able to land's Thomas' commitment as they have yet to offer another running back this cycle a scholarship offer.

Bye Week Report: USF has two months to prepare for a potential rematch against Stanford, will they avoid pitfalls?
Anthony Washington -- The Tampa Bay Chronicles

The top-ranked Stanford Cardinal are 6-0 with their opponents having a combined record of 39-33 and have won four of their six games by less than fourteen points. USF on the other hand are 5-1 with their combined opponent record being 43-28 and only two of their wins being decided by less than eleven points.

If it wasn't for their September 14 loss to Stanford, you'd think these two heavyweights were a match for each other but the September date is a reminder of just how far the Bulls are from the Cardinal, or was it just one bad quarter from Mark Cunningham?

Since that four turnover game, the second-year quarterback threw for 269 yards against Ohio State, 326 against Michigan and 198 against USC and just three interceptions in those three games to go with his five touchdowns.

Since allowing 48 points to Stanford, USF's defense has given up just fifteen points per game in this three game stretch as they head into the bye week. Kyle Locher leads the Champions Division in tackles and interceptions while E.J. Young's five sacks also lead the division.

"We definitely want to play them again," Locher says of the matchup with Stanford, "The only way to do that is to win out, make the playoffs and see them there and that's what we're trying to do."

The only thing standing in their way? #11 Purdue, #7 Oklahoma, on the road against #12 Miami, Oregon, #20 UCF and #10 Michigan State as the Bulls end their season with a four week road trip.

Team Leaders
Passing: Mark Cunningham (70% completion, 1639 yards, 10 TD, 8 INT, 155.0 QB rating)

Receiving: Jeff Rutledge (26 receptions, 340 yards, 4 TD)
Defense: Kyle Locher (73 tackles, 13 TFL, 2.0 sacks, 4 INT, 6 PBU, 3 FF, FR, TD)

Team Rankings

Total Offense: 3rd -- 493.3 YPG

Total Defense: 26th -- 349.5 YAPG
Rushing Defense: 43rd -- 170.5 YAPG
Passing Defense: 26th -- 179 YAPG
Turnover Differential: 9th -- (-3)

Team Schedule
at Alabama (2-5): W 31-20
vs. Rutgers (5-2): W 55-7
vs. #1 Stanford (6-0): L 48-27
vs. Ohio State (2-5): W 38-14
at #8 Michigan (4-1): W 24-21
vs. USC (4-3): W 42-10

Midseason Award - Most Valuable Player
Both running backs -- Wheeler and Kellen Wright -- have a solid argument as they are averaging upwards of six yards per carry and nearly seven for Wright along with thirteen total touchdowns between them as does tight end Jeff Rutledge but the award has to go to Kyle Locher.

Locher has been the best defensive player in college football for a season and a half now and if not for the offensive bias, he would be the front runner for the Heisman. His impact and counting numbers are even better than last season's at this point and he swept the defensive awards last winter.

Midseason Award - Most Improved Player
Brooks Coe splashed onto the scene as a true freshman, averaging nearly 30 yards per game before catching just three passes as a sophomore. Coe is now one of USF's better receivers, leading the team with 17.7 yards per reception.

As Cunningham's confidence grows within the offense, expect him to push the ball down the field more and that's where the six-foot-four receiver with legit track speed thrives.

Midseason Award - Best Freshman
Clarence Sullivan has been a steady presence in the secondary, as has Julian Harrell but ultimately, former five-star receiver Scott Price has been the team's top freshmen. Opposite of Coe on the outside, Price is third on the team in receptions (24), second in receiving yards (374) and tied for first with Rutledge in touchdowns with four.

His role should only continue to grow as the season progresses and he's getting more comfortable and a better rapport with Cunningham.

Midseason Superlative - Most Disappointing Unit
There is a ton of talent along the defensive line and it doesn't always show.

Brandon Smith and Kareem Cunningham lead the unit with two sacks if you're counting outside linebacker E.J. Young as a linebacker. No other player has more than one and that's including talented players such as Kyle Wood, Ramon Hall, Brent Lawrence, Marcellus Smith and Matt Langford. They've been solid but if they want to beat Stanford or any other team and offense, they'll need to start taking over games.

Bulls land a surprise commitment after extending offer to Gainesville quarterback Justin Ingram
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

Despite growing up in Gainesville, Eastside High School quarterback Justin Ingram grew up a die-hard fan of the USF Bulls, even in a Gator household.

"It's always been about the Bulls with me," said Ingram, whose modeled his game after former USF quarterback Jeff Jones, "I always said if they ever came calling, it'd be an easy decision and it was."

Ingram committed to the Bulls on Thursday, just hours removed from USF quarterback coach and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee offered the three-star quarterback. Lashlee was in attendance for Ingram's high school game last Friday during the Bulls' bye week. The two spoke for close to an hour after the game with definite interest from the Bulls but no official offer. Less than a week later, the offer came through a phone call and Ingram jumped at the opportunity.

Ingram has impressive size at six-foot-five with a live arm that impressed Lashlee and the rest of the Bulls coaching staff during Ingram's camp outing this past summer at USF and again in person last week. Ingram's dealt with injuries throughout his high school career and his accuracy can be streaky at times which is why the Bulls are his only Division-I offer despite Florida State, Southern Miss and LSU showing interest.

The Gainesville prospect wasn't the only one that Lashlee visited last week as he made a mid-week visit to Iowa for an in-home with four-star quarterback Chris Price. The ninth ranked quarterback in the class, Price is more of a dual threat than Ingram and brings a different dynamic to the table.

In speaking to those within the program, Ingram's commitment is not expected to impact their recruitment of Price as both quarterbacks are aware that the Bulls want to sign two players at the position in this cycle.

#4 USF (5-2, 3-2) | 14 | 7 | 7 | 3 || 31

Bulls keep it close but fall short against Purdue as McBride leads the rally for the Boilermakers
For most of the game, Purdue's James McBride had no answers for USF's passing defense, not completing a pass until midway through the second quarter.

With the game on the line, McBride saved his best for last.

The sophomore quarterback had the drive of his life, leading the Boilermakers back from an eleven-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat USF 35-31 on Saturday to improve their playoff chances.

Down 31-20 with 2:53 remaining, McBride changed the game in three plays: a 45-yard completion to Rashaun Thompson, a thirteen-yard pickup with his legs to get within striking range and unloaded a 33-yard touchdown to Danny James to make it a one possession game in less than 20 seconds.

Once again, USF's offense had the chance to put the game but failed to do so, nearly fumbling the ball on Mark Cunningham's fumble. USF's defense had kept Purdue's offense out of the endzone for nearly two quarters but USF's offense struggles in the second half came back to bite them, including a failed opportunity in the fourth quarter to put themselves up two touchdowns near the goal line before settling for a field goal.

With the ball back and just thirty seconds off the clock during USF's possession, McBride went back to work with another deep bomb to Thompson to get them in USF's territory. Travis Jones had a chance to end the game on the next play but the USF cornerback dropped the easy interception, giving the Boilermakers another chance.

Two plays later, Cole Coker -- who rushed for 222 yards -- found the endzone to give Purdue its first lead since the first half.

Cunningham and USF got the opportunity to respond with a minute left and seemed like they just might after a scramble drill led to Cunningham's 28-yard completion to Carl Graham. But on the next scramble drill, Cunningham and receiver Scott Price were not on the same page as the freshman stopped his route short, gifting Purdue the easy interception and the win.
