Bulls add another three-star prospect to their class in offensive tackle Blake Mitchell
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider
USF improved their future depth along the offensive line on Monday with a commitment from three-star offensive tackle Blake Mitchell.
Mitchell, who is originally from Delray Beach but playing his senior season at South Florida powerhouse American Heritage High School, is a versatile player that has played all three positions along the offensive line. Originally a guard, Mitchell played left tackle the past two seasons at Seacrest High School (Delray Beach, Fla.) where he was an all-district selection as a junior.
He's currently playing center for the Patriots but it's hard to imagine that he ends up there at USF for the Bulls, especially if they land top target Jasper Nobles. As the lowest ranked member of the recruiting class, Mitchell is likely a depth piece addition for the team as none of his traits, outside of his versatility, jump off the tape or his athletic profile.

Recruiting Class in Review: Bulls land some all-world talent in their 2038 class, helping them win two national titles in three seasons
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider
The first class in the ANAC era, USF hit the recruiting trail plenty motivated and found success early with the commitment of the nation's top player in Tampa prospect Joseph Moses. The Bulls used that momentum and their eventual undefeated season to land the nation's top recruiting class who would be instrumental in winning a national title the next season and again two seasons later in 2040.
When it was all said and done, how does this class grade out? The grading criteria is as follows: 1 star for non-contributor, 2 star for depth player, 3 star for contributor, 4 star for impact starter, 5 star for a star player.
2038 USF Recruiting Class
WR Joseph Moses [WR #1]: 6'2", 210lbs | Tampa, FL | 5-star | 4.50 40-yd dash, 335 Bench Press Max, 225 Squat Max
Career Stats » 200 receptions, 2699 yards, 20 touchdowns, 9 dropped passes
Analysis » As a true freshman, Moses emerged as a slot option for the Bulls, catching 47 passes for the national champions. Even with shaky quarterback play in 2039, Moses was still one of the country's best slot receivers, improving from his impressive freshman numbers. With a steadied offense during his junior season, Moses led the team with 87 receptions for 1258 yards, adding in ten touchdowns with just two drops to wrap up a great career for his hometown team and living up to the hype as a top prospect.
Grade » 5-star
WR Alston Marks [WR #2]: 6'1", 202lbs | York, SC | 5-star | 4.46 40-yd dash, 250 Bench Press Max, 275 Squat Max
Career Stats » 155 receptions, 1995 yards, 12 touchdowns, 5 dropped passes
Analysis » Similar to Moses, Marks got better each season as he saw his role increased from rotational player as a freshman to USF's second option on the outside opposite of Maurice Bennett and as a junior, Marks was the team's best outside receiver and was key in them winning the national championship last year.
Grade » 5-star
S Michael Robinson [FS #1]: 6'2", 179lbs | Belle Glade, FL | 5-star | 4.32 40-yd dash, 360 Bench Press Max, 365 Squat Max
Career Stats » 252 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 4 interceptions, touchdown, 14 pass breakups, fumble recovery
Analysis » A day one starter, Robinson started every game at USF during his career and was a steadying force for a defensive unit that put up some impressive performances over the years. While the numbers weren't always there, his impact was always felt on his way to becoming a three time All-American.
Grade » 5-star
ILB Noah Wester [ILB #1]: 6'2", 220lbs | Calabasas, CA | 4-star | 4.70 40-yd dash, 335 Bench Press Max, 655 Squat Max
Career Stats » 77 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, interception, 2 pass breakups
Analysis » Unlike the previous three players, Wester didn't hit the ground running, being limited to just a special teamer during his first two seasons at USF. His role has expanded the past two seasons but ultimately, Wester just couldn't get over the hump in his early years to be able to dethrone veteran guys like Nicholas Holt, Brett Freeman and Alex McDaniel who were lesser ranked prospects.
Grade » 3-star
G/T Woody Humphrey [G #1]: 6'1", 268lbs | North Druid Hills, GA | 4-star | 4.68 40-yd dash, 455 Bench Press Max, 680 Squat Max
Career Stats » 22 pancakes, 7 sacks allowed
Analysis » After starting a few games as a true freshman due to injury, Humphrey entered the starting five as a sophomore at right tackle before making the move back to guard where he had great success as a junior, earning All-Conference nods. Part of a really impressive haul along the offensive line, he was part of a unit that helped USF have the country's best scoring offense in 2040 after a down year in 2039.
Grade » 4-star
T/G Wally Bayless [T #5]: 6'4", 275lbs | Milpitas, CA [IMG] | 4-star | 5.08 40-yd dash, 435 Bench Press Max, 610 Squat Max
Career Stats » 3 pancakes, 10 sacks allowed
Analysis » Similar to Humphrey, Bayless played a bit as a true freshman before starting as a sophomore, initially at right guard before making the move to right tackle for his junior season where he had a decent year. Bayless' athletic profile allowed him to enter the NFL early and get drafted in the fifth round but overall, his career at USF was a bit of a dissapointment given his ranking.
Grade » 3-star
S/LB Kyle Locher [SS #1]: 6'3", 204lbs | Goodland, KS [IMG] | 4-star | 4.48 40-yd dash, 330 Bench Press Max, 365 Squat Max
Career Stats » 225 tackles, 44 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 9 interceptions, 3 touchdowns, 13 pass breakups, 6 forced fumbles, fumble recovery
Analysis » In the past two seasons, Locher has went from just a guy to arguably one of USF's best players in recent history, perhaps all-time. He had a magical junior season and is now having an even better year in his second season at linebacker after making the switch from safety.
Grade » 5-star
DT Rahmod Carter [DT #4]: 6'5", 298lbs | Kenosha, WI [IMG] | 4-star | 4.88 40-yd dash, 410 Bench Press Max, 545 Squat Max
Career Stats » No stats
Analysis » First it was Michael Williams and then it was Jesse Berrong and Matt Langford and now its Brandon Smith and potentially Shawn Thomas well, Carter just has been unable to win these positional battles in spring and fall camp, leading to him being left off the two-deep for three seasons now.
Grade » 1-star
CB Bryan Carter [CB #3]: 6'1", 171lbs | Calabasas, CA | 4-star | 4.42 40-yd dash, 245 Bench Press Max, 275 Squat Max
Career Stats » 116 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 10 interceptions, touchdown, 8 pass breakups, fumble recovery
Analysis » A NSD steal from the Ducks, it paid dividends right away as Carter recorded four interceptions as a true freshman and was an all-conference player. He led the team in interceptions as a sophomore and was an all-conference play once more as a junior to put a bow on a great career for the Bulls.
Grade » 5-star
CB K.J. Waters [CB #5]: 6'1", 161lbs | Orlando, FL | 4-star | 4.44 40-yd dash, 250 Bench Press Max, 275 Squat Max
Career Stats » 145 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, sack, 9 interceptions, 3 touchdowns, 20 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, fumble recovery
Analysis » Not to be outdone by his classmates Robinson and Carter, Waters was a star in his own right, announcing himself to the college football world with some big plays in the college football playoffs to help beat Alabama in the national championship game with two pick sixes. An All-American as a freshman, Waters was one of college football's best corners in all three seasons at USF.
Grade » 5-star
DE/DT Jesse Berrong [DE #14]: 6'2", 265lbs | Northridge, OH | 4-star | 4.72 40-yd dash, 390 Bench Press Max, 570 Squat Max
Career Stats » 51 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, fumble recovery
Analysis » Similar to Locher, Berrong was just rotational guy before making a position switch, moving to defensive tackle as a sophomore where he recorded six tackles for loss before becoming an All-American as a junior with 12 tackles for loss and seven sacks prior to declaring early for the draft
Grade » 4-star
T Cole Britton [T #10]: 6'6", 288lbs | Miami, FL | 4-star | 5.00 40-yd dash, 450 Bench Press Max, 640 Squat Max
Career Stats » 3 pancakes, 7 sacks allowed
Analysis » Britton's story is still being written as he earned his first playing time this season after winning the starting job at right tackle. He's been a decent player but honestly, not quite USF caliber
Grade » 2-star
QB Jet Millines [QB #5]: 6'3", 225lbs | Fort Lauderdale, FL | 4-star | 4.50 40-yd dash, 235 Bench Press Max, 330 Squat Max
Career Stats » 540 of 767, 7035 yards, 61 touchdowns, 20 interceptions, sacked 35 times, 186 carries, 1154 yards, 10 touchdowns, 7 fumbles
Analysis » Perhaps the toughest grade of the class, Millines helped USF win the national championship as a freshman, replacing the injured Jared Chavis in the national championship game against Alabama. He lost the starting job during his sophomore year due to his struggles and was never the full time starter his junior season until the playoffs where he caught fire and led the Bulls to the natty. He's a borderline five-star but that sophomore season makes it tough.
Grade » 4-star
TE Landon Wile [TE #11]: 6'3", 227lbs | Fort Lauderdale, FL | 3-star | 4.72 40-yd dash, 395 Bench Press Max 345 Squat Max
Career Stats » No stats
Analysis » Wile had all of the making to be a great tight end, following in the footsteps of Chris Wallace. He lost the starting job to Antoine Frank in back to back seasons before true freshman Jeff Rutledge also took the job last year.
Grade » 1-star
OLB/ILB Jackson Gold Jr. [OLB #22]: 5'11", 210lbs | Miami, FL | 3-star | 4.76 40-yd dash, 400 Bench Press Max, 620 Squat Max
Career Stats » No stats
Analysis » Maybe he'll crack the rotation once Wester and Locher graduate as Gold has an extra year of eligibility left.
Grade » 1-star
QB Jacob Venckus [QB #30]: 6'2", 210lbs | Shelby, MI | 3-star | 4.76 40-yd dash, 310 Bench Press Max, 250 Squat Max
Career Stats » 104 of 157, 1085 yards, 8 touchdowns, 3 interceptions
Analysis » For a moment during the 2039 season, Venckus looked to be a potential quarterback of the future with some impressive performance but his limited physical tools were then quickly evident and he's since been USF's third quarterback, his role for the remainder of his career most likely.
Grade » 2-star
Superlative Awards
Most Important Signing: Moses happened early in the cycle so the one that was major was closing the deal with Carter on National Signing Day after the absolute disaster that was the previous year's where the Bulls struck out on many of their top targets.
Most Productive Signing: Locher might be running away with it after this season but among the early departures, it's probably Moses whose senior season was one of the better seasons of any USF receiver which is saying a lot.
Biggest Bust of the Class: It's got to be Rahmod Carter who was just a non-factor for four seasons and likely a fifth one as well with his redshirt senior year coming up.
Most Untapped Potential: Wile has been a practice squad darling since his freshman season so the potential was there but the Bulls just never put him out there to see what they had in him.
Biggest Steal of the Class: With just three 3-stars, it's slim picking and Venckus would win it by default. Among the four stars, Berrong was probably the biggest surprise as he ended up being a very good player for the Bulls, just in a different way than they expected.
Biggest Lost of the Class: The top two guys that USF wanted but were unable to get in this cycle were defensive end Jason Wilson who ended up at Navy and Nevada fullback T.J. Dawson who they were recruiting as a tight end. After not playing much in his first three seasons, including redshirting his first, Wilson has 4.5 sacks on the year as a junior along with eleven tackles for loss. If he returns next season, he'll be one of the AAC's best defensive players.
Dawson has been a versatile piece for the Wolfpack with 316 rushing yards and two touchdowns with 36 receptions for 295 yards and three receiving touchdowns through four seasons. He's essentially what USF went out and got last season in Earl May.

South Florida Bulls takes care of Oklahoma Sooners 41-19 to improve to 6-2
Through much of the game, USF had outplayed and outgained the Oklahoma Sooners but were only leading by a touchdown heading into the fourth quarter due to five turnovers, including three in the red area.
The game had a similar feeling to USF's previous game where they allowed Purdue to hang around and eventually complete the comeback. USF running back Jacob Wheeler had different plans.
The second-year star broke off a 72-yard touchdown run with 5:04 left in the game to extend USF's lead and then put the nail in the coffin with an eighteen yard scamper to beat Oklahoma 41-19 on Senior Day.
The Sooners had success on the ground with Ryan Vance rushing for 141 yards and a touchdown but it was a tough game for Oklahoma senior David Russ who threw four interceptions and outside of a few deep shots, struggled against USF's defense.
USF quarterback Mark Cunningham didn't fare much better as his first interception came in the redzone when a ball that was dropped by receiver Tracy Brooks was intercepted by the Sooners. Cunningham would be intercepted four seconds before the end of the half as USF tried to extend their lead and his final interception came in the red zone once more on a throw to the endzone to Carl Graham that was underthrown.

USF linebacker Kyle Locher among twelve semi-finalists for the Bednarik, Nagurski, and Butkus Award
Anthony Washington -- The Tampa Bay Chronicles
As expected, USF linebacker Kyle Locher was named a semi-finalists for the Bednarik Award (best defensive player), Bronko Nagurski Trophy (best defensive player) and Butkus Award (best linebacker).
Locher, who swept the college football awards last season by winning the Nagurski, Butkus and Bednarik, is on pace for an ever better season with him eclipsing his tackle tally from last season already and has already matched his five interceptions.
Fellow USF linebacker E.J. Young is also a semi-finalist for all three awards. The only other semi-finalist for the Bulls is punter Gerald Wallace who was among the twelve semi-finalists for the Ray Guy Award, award to the nation's top punter. The junior is averaging a career high 40.2 net yards on his punts this season.
Former USF quarterback and current UCF quarterback Charlie Cooke is a semi-finalist for multiple awards as he is having a standout season for the Knights, completing 78.3 percent of his passes. Some other notes:
- USF's path to the College Football Playoffs is a clear one following Oklahoma win
Even with the Champions Division being guaranteed four playoff spots -- a point of huge contention among other conferences and their fans -- USF's playoff hopes looked bleak after the loss to Purdue as they were underdogs against Oklahoma and Miami and losing three in a row would have ended all playoff chances and put them in a promotional bowl.
Instead, the Bulls easily took care of the Sooners and even as underdogs against the Miami Hurricanes this week, the Sooners win afforded them some cushion, jumping from fourth place into second with a tie breaker over Oklahoma as Purdue stumbled against Oregon. The Bulls now just need to go 2-1 between Miami, six-loss Oregon and four-loss Michigan State to make the playoffs
Oregon is still a lively dog, as shown by their 48-14 win over Purdue who was still on that high of beating USF and Michigan State is no slouch, especially on the road in a late November game that is almost guaranteed to be bad weather. But Miami still has to play Purdue and the Boilermakers still have Michigan, Alabama, and Stanford left on their schedule as well. The Sooners have it a bit easier with just Michigan State and Ohio State left but the Bulls have the tiebreaker over them.

- Some very important showcase games for USF's juniors as they eye the draft
Seven players declare for the draft last season as juniors from USF's national championship roster and even if the Bulls fail to repeat, they could be looking at a similar entry rate into the draft in a few months. One of the intended consequences of the Champions Division realignment is the increase of primetime games and matchups that not only catch the attention of fans and the media but also NFL scouts.
Here are some top juniors to keep an eye on during the last stretch of the season:
HB #3 Kellen Wright, Junior | Season Stats: 72 carries, 501 yards, 7.0 ypc, 4 TD | Career Stats: 317 carries, 1797 yards, 5.7 ypc, 18 touchdowns
He's no Derek Young, Bobby Jackson or Roger Shaw Jr. -- the last three USF running backs to declare early -- but Wright has had similar production to another early departure at the position in Pookie Harrell. Harrell will impress scouts with his versatility as a runner and his ability as a receiver, catching 59 passes last season. The production as a receiver hasn't been there this season with just ten catches but Wright has shown more big play ability this year with five rushes of more than 20 yards after having just three in his first two seasons. He needs to fix the fumbling issues but if he can have a few big games, potentially in the playoffs, Wright could see himself elevated into a third or fourth round pick.
WR #88 Brooks Coe, Junior | Season Stats: 21 receptions, 345 yards | Career Stats: 53 receptions, 760 yards, 4 touchdowns
It's hard to imagine Coe declaring early but crazier things have happened, especially when guys are coming off a really good season where they feel like they caught lightning in a bottle and want to cash in. Coe caught 29 passes as a freshman and then caught just three as a sophomore so that could impact Coe's decision to strike while the iron is hot. USF is also recruiting two five-star receivers, something he'll need to consider. At this point, he's a priority undrafted free agent at best but we've seen guys like Nigel Medley (only 31 career receptions) choose to get the clock started on their NFL career instead of fighting for a starting spot as a senior
TE #85 Jeff Rutledge, Junior | Season Stats: 37 receptions, 390 yards, 4 touchdowns | Career Stats: 116 receptions, 1372 yards, 19 touchdowns
Perhaps the most slam dunk of the juniors, the only thing that could possibly bring Rutledge back is if he wants to go from a third round pick to a no-brainer first round or, similar to Chris Wallace, simply loves playing for the Bulls. Rutledge is likely going to wear the No. 1 jersey next season if he returns but is that enough to pass on millions in the NFL, even with his NIL deals?
LT #74 Garrett McTaggart, Rs Sophomore | Season Stats: 4 pancakes, 2 sacks allowed
Similar to Coe, it'll be a shocker since McTaggart is in his first season as a starter but he was a talented prospect coming out of high school and has arguably been USF's best offensive lineman. McTaggart is the type of athlete that an NFL offensive line coach would love to have as he has great feet and even without his long arms, he could be a franchise left tackle down the line.
RG #75 Ray Anderson, Junior | Season Stats: 6 pancakes, 3 sacks allowed
Anderson is a very clean prospect from his technique to his off the field as the coaching staff raves about Anderson's leadership and intellect. He'll blow NFL front offices away during the interview process and his tape from this season has been pretty damn good as well and clean. The biggest concern is the lack of starts and his weight as he's currently playing under 300 pounds and reportedly even under 270 pounds in-season.
OLB #9 E.J. Young, Junior | Season Stats: 39 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, interception | Career Stats: 128 tackles, 53 tackles for loss, 18 sacks, interception
Heading into the season, Young was a no-brainer to declare and while that still might end up being the case, he has seen a slight dip in production. Even with that, however, Young is exactly what NFL coaches want in terms of a versatile linebacker that can make the transition to being a dedicated pass rusher, continue to be a hybrid, move to outside linebacker and set the edge or even be a full-time, off the ball linebacker. He'll get his chance to make a big splash against Miami's top ranked offense that will challenge him and the defense.
CB #2 Travis Jones, Rs Sophomore | Season Stats: 27 tackles, tackle for loss, 2 interceptions, 2 PBU | Career Stats: 61 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, 7 pass breakups
Jones moved into the CB1 role for the Bulls and has had a very good season, donning the No. 2 jersey as the leader of the secondary. There are still questions regarding physicality in the run game and Jones' slight frame but at the end of the day, Jones is one of the better press corners in college football, an attribute that is coveted. He matches up very well with Miami's receiver and could have a big day -- a quiet one that is -- which would improve his ranking.

- USF OC Rhett Lashlee expected to draw a lot of interest in head coaching market
USF fans shouldn't expect Lashlee to have a long-term run at USF as a coordinator similar to defensive coordinator Trai Martinez.
In speaking to those within the program, there is an expectation around the program that Lashlee will be one-and-done at USF and likely take an head coaching job elsewhere. This was the expectation dating back to Lashlee's hiring in the winter to replace DeMarcus Bennett as the veteran head coach is very much interested in getting back to being the top boss and isn't enthralled with just being an offensive coordinator, despite his long-standing relationship with USF head coach Malcolm Francois Sr.
If there was perhaps a possibility that Francois Sr. would name Lashlee the head coach in waiting, that could potentially change things but Francois Sr. has told those close to him that he wants to coach for at least another ten years.
A name to watch should Lashlee leave? New Mexico State offensive coordinator Grant Oliver. Oliver, the former USF quarterback, had been linked previously to openings at USF since he left the program to be the offensive coordinator at Michigan in 2027. Since then, Oliver was eventually the East Carolina head coach before being fired. He has since served as OC at UAB, Oregon State, New Mexico State and has three times interviewed for the USF offensive coordinator job but lost out to Calvin Magee, Mario Greer and Doug Nussmeier which led to a slight fracture in Oliver's relationship with Francois Sr.
The relationship has since been mended with Francois Sr. attending Oliver's wedding this past summer where he was pictured. It also helps that New Mexico State is averaging 29.4 points per game this season with one of the nation's top passing offense.

#5 USF (7-2, 5-2) | 10 | 7 | 21 | 7 || 45
#4 MIA (6-3, 3-3) | 0 | 3 | 0 | 0 || 3
-----------------------------------------------
Miami is licking their wounds after a 45-3 whipping at the hands of the South Florida Bulls
Last year, Miami has no answers for USF's offense as Jet Millines threw for four touchdowns and Mark Cunningham added two of his own while Kellen Wright rushed for 117 yards and caught eleven passes for 112 yards.
This time around, it was the Bulls defense that set the tone in the in-state battle as the Bulls ran away with the 45-3 victory on Saturday night in Miami.
Senior quarterback Kyle Hutchinson was sacked four times last season in the 56-16 loss and replaced those sacks with interceptions this year along with a strip sack that was returned for a touchdown by Kareem Cunningham to open the game. The Hurricanes also muffed a punt to bring their turnover total to six. They outgained USF in the passing game, had four more first downs and a much better third down conversation rate -- 57 percent compared to just sixteen for the Bulls -- but the six turnovers would prove to be too much.
One of Hutchinson's interceptions were to USF linebacker Kyle Locher who returned it for a touchdown, improving on his already legendary season with now six interceptions. USF running back Jacob Wheeler, who missed last year's game with an injury, rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown.
