Kansas City can't overcome Patrick Mahomes' worst career playoff game in loss to Baltimore
The Baltimore Ravens are headed back to the Super Bowl, beating the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs 35-21 to put a pause to Kansas City's AFC dominance.
The Ravens defense, led by linebacker Roquan Smith, harassed quarterback Patrick Mahomes the entire night, forcing the former MVP to have his worst career playoff game with just 186 passing yards and two interceptions. Mahomes was sacked twice and had no answers for the Ravens defense with running mate Travis Kelce sidelined with an injury.
On the other sideline, Lamar Jackson had one of his better playoff games, accounting for four of the Ravens' five touchdowns en route to his first ever Super Bowl where he will play the Carolina Panthers in a Super Bowl matchup that no one saw coming at the beginning of the season.

Raiders hire David Shaw to be franchise's new head coach
The Las Vegas Raiders have found their new head coach, and he is a familiar face to the franchise. The team announced on Monday that they have hired former Stanford head coach David Shaw, who previously served as an assistant coach for the Raiders from 1998 to 2001.
Shaw, 52, resigned from Stanford after the 2022 season, ending a 12-year tenure as the Cardinal’s head coach. He led Stanford to three Pac-12 championships, three Rose Bowl appearances, two Rose Bowl victories, and eight straight winning seasons. He is also Stanford’s all-time leader in wins with 96.
Shaw has been widely regarded as one of the top college coaches in the country, and has been linked to several NFL head coaching jobs in the past. He interviewed for the Denver Broncos job last in 2022 but was passed over for Sean Payton. He also turned down the Raiders’ offer in 2015, when he chose to stay at Stanford and the team hired Jack Del Rio instead.
Shaw said he is excited to return to the NFL and to the Raiders, a team he has fond memories of. He was part of Jon Gruden’s staff that led the Raiders to three consecutive playoff appearances, including a Super Bowl berth in 2002.
“I’m honored and humbled to be the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders,” Shaw said in a statement. “This is a storied franchise with a passionate fan base and a rich history. I have a lot of respect for the Davis family and the organization, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead this team. I’m looking forward to working with the players, the coaches, and the staff to bring back the winning culture and tradition that the Raiders are known for.”
Shaw is known for his offensive acumen and his ability to develop quarterbacks. He coached Rich Gannon, who won the MVP award in 2002 under Shaw’s tutelage. He also coached Andrew Luck, who became the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft and a four-time Pro Bowler. Shaw said he is eager to work with Justin Fields, who the team acquired last offseason in a trade with the Chicago Bears and signed to a long-term extension.
“Justin is a talented and smart quarterback who can lead this team to great heights,” Shaw said. “He has shown a lot of improvement and consistency over the years, and I’m excited to help him take his game to the next level. He has all the tools and the intangibles to be a championship quarterback in this league.”
Shaw will be formally introduced as the Raiders’ head coach at a press conference on Tuesday. He will inherit a team that finished 6-11 in 2024, missing the playoffs after firing Josh McDaniels midway through the season.

Raiders, David Shaw finalize coaching staff with hiring of Pep Hamilton, Raheem Morris
The Las Vegas Raiders have made some major changes to their coaching staff, hiring Pep Hamilton as their new offensive coordinator and Raheem Morris as their new defensive coordinator.
Hamilton and Morris will join head coach David Shaw, who was hired by the Raiders a few weeks ago. Shaw, who has a strong reputation as an offensive guru and a developer of quarterbacks, said he was excited to work with Hamilton and Morris, two of the most respected coaches in football.
"I'm thrilled to have Pep and Raheem on board. They are both proven winners and leaders who have a wealth of experience and knowledge. They share my vision of building a competitive, disciplined and dynamic team that can compete for championships," Shaw said in a statement.
Hamilton has experience as an offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts (2016-2018) and the Michigan Wolverines (2019-2020), where he coached Andrew Luck and Shea Patterson, respectively.
Hamilton said he was looking forward to joining the Raiders and working with Shaw, whom he considers a mentor and a friend. Hamilton was Shaw's offensive coordinator at Stanford from 2011 to 2012, when they led the Cardinal to two consecutive BCS bowl appearances and developed Luck into the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
"David is one of the best coaches in the game and I'm honored to be reunited with him. We have a great relationship and a similar philosophy of how to play offense. I'm excited to work with him and the talented players on the Raiders roster, especially Justin Fields, who is a phenomenal quarterback and leader," Hamilton said.
Morris has been a defensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2016-2019) and the Los Angeles Rams (2020-2024), where he coached some of the best defensive players in the league, such as Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, Lavonte David and Shaquil Barrett.
Morris said he was eager to join the Raiders and work with Shaw, whom he admires and respects.
"David is a tremendous coach and a great person. I have a lot of respect for him and what he has done at Stanford. I'm looking forward to working with him and the talented players on the Raiders defense, especially Maxx Crosby, who is a beast and a playmaker," Morris said.

Raiders re-sign Tre'von Moehrig, Brevin Jordan as franchise tag goes unused
The Las Vegas Raiders have extended safety Tre'von Moehrig and tight end Brevin Jordan, beating the clock for the franchise tag deadline.
Moehrig's deal is for four years, $32.4 million to keep him in Las Vegas with newly hired defensive coordinator Raheem Morris. Moehrig had a solid year for the Raiders, grading in at 71.9 according to Pro Football Focus which puts him smack in the middle among starters in the league. The Raiders are hopeful that Moehrig will take another step next season in his development and become a more consistent player.
In Jordan, the Raiders are bringing back their backup tight end with some added value in the passing game at a reasonable $18 million over four years with $10 million being guaranteed. It's a success story for both parties as Jordan was a seldomly used player for the Texans prior to being traded to his hometown Raiders back in 2023 and saw an expanded role last season when Michael Mayer missed five games due to injuries.
The Raiders did not use their franchise tag on potential candidates CB Michael Davis and Nate Hobbs as they head into free agency. The Rams did use their tag on defensive lineman Aaron Donald, ending any hopes that Donald could join his former defensive coordinator Raheem Morris in Las Vegas via free agency.
Notable NFL Transactions
Los Angeles Rams franchise tag DE Aaron Donald for $34.2 million
Dallas Cowboys franchise tag DE DeMarcus Lawrence for $20.7 million
Indianapolis Colts franchise tag CB Kenny Moore for $22.5 million
Miami Dolphins re-sign S Jevon Holland (3yr/$34.3m)
Miami Dolphins re-sign LB Jerome Baker (4yr/$33.7m)
Miami Dolphins re-sign S Grant Delpit (3yr/$16.1m)
Baltimore Ravens re-sign HB Josh Jacobs (3yr/$56.8m)
Minnesota Vikings re-sign DE Harrison Phillips (3yr/$36.9m)

Pre-Combine and Free Agency Las Vegas Raiders Mock Draft: Raiders help fix their defense with their two first round picks
With a coaching staff in place and the front office finalized, the Raiders can now start working on improving from their 6-11 finish last season and while free agency will offer that opportunity, the draft is uniquely equipped to upgrade a roster and doing so in a cost controlled manner.
Many of the Raiders' best acquisitions to last year's roster came from the draft in the form of right tackle Joe Alt, defensive tackle Tyleik Williams, linebacker Curtis Jacobs and wide receiver Tory Horton. With two first round picks, the Raiders have another chance at upgrading this roster quickly and efficiently if they strike gold once more.
Projected Draft Picks
‣ Round 1, Pick 6
DE Mykel Williams | 6'5", 271lbs | 3rd ranked DE
Newly hired defensive coordinator Raheem Morris has coached a few different schemes but if he continues to deploy a base 3-4 scheme, Williams might be the perfect fit here at number six to park next to Tyleik Williams and opposite of Tyree Wilson, giving the Raiders a potential elite front for years to come.
Williams might the best power rusher in the draft while also adding some versatility to his pass rush moves compared to a Shemar Stewart who uses more brute force. The only other interior guy ahead of Williams is Bear Alexander and even that is a toss up so if the Raiders can add arguably the draft's best interior defensive linemen, they should without hesitation and essentially have their defensive line secured for the next five seasons with both Williams and Wilson, not to mention Maxx Crosby coming off the edge.
‣ Round 1, Pick 16 (via DAL)
CB Gentry Williams | 6'0", 176lbs | 4th ranked CB
The Raiders almost HAVE to draft a corner with one of their first round picks and given their success with drafting 'Williams', why not go with this Sooner?
In all seriousness, Williams is one of the better man-to-man corners in the draft and if you're not going to be able to select Travis Hunter or Benjamin Morris with the sixth pick, Williams might be the best available corner available in the draft given the Raiders' draft order.
He's far from a perfect or finished product so the team and fans will need to exercise patience and if they do, they could end up with a nice combo of young corners between Williams, Jeff Okudah and Jakorian Bennett.
‣ Round 2, Pick 38
WR Tetairoa McMillan | 6'5", 210lbs | 6th ranked WR
The Raiders have some really fast receiver so why not get a six-foot-five, 210-pound ball winner on the outside to give Justin Fields a red zone target?
With Luther Burden and Evan Stewart likely off the board in the first round, McMillan might be the only receiver available by pick 38 that has WR1 potential along with Kentucky's Dane Key. Either way, the Raiders offense need a big-time and big bodied receiver on the outside to replace the production of Davante Adams.
‣ Round 3, Pick 67 (via NO)
OLB Jalon Walker | 6'2", 252lbs | 8th ranked OLB
After ignoring the position last offseason, the Raiders can't afford to do so and get lucky that Walker slides outside of the top sixty and into their lap at the top of the third round.
Walker is a natural speed rusher that fits in the Raiders 3-4 scheme perfectly as an outside linebacker with also some added value as a cover linebacker. His versatility pairs nicely with the likes of Maxx Crosby and Tyree Wilson, freeing them up to be pure pass rushers while Walker can do a little bit of everything.
This is a risky play to wait for Walker or a similar prospect to slide to the third round so there is a possibility the team addressed EDGE with one of their first three picks instead.
‣ Round 3, Pick 70
S Jacoby Matthews | 6'2", 218lbs | 5th ranked SS
The Raiders re-signed Tre'von Moehrig and are high on second year defensive back Decorian Patterson who finished the season as their starter at strong safety but Patterson is better suited for a hybrid nickel/safety role so why not get a big body in Matthews to fully replace Marcus Epps?
Matthews is a sure tackler but will need to improve in coverage in order to be an every down player. With Patterson, they'll be able to platoon the two of them depending on looks and game situations to form between the two of them, a pretty good safety opposite of Moehrig.
‣ Round 3, Pick 95 (via BAL)
OT Josh Conerly Jr. | 6'4", 305lbs | 6th ranked OT
You can't have enough good offensive tackles and when someone like Conerly Jr. who offers positional flexibility with experience at guard comes available late in the third round, you can't pass up on it. Conerly has plenty of upside at either tackle or guard so bringing him into the mix would be a good move for the Raiders even with their starting five likely solidified for next season.

What's next for Tua Tagovailoa following no-tag or extension from Dolphins?
Tua Tagovailoa was a prized prospect coming out of Alabama and after recovering from a hip injury that threatened his career and getting past a tough first few years under Brian Flores, Tagovailoa got a second chance under Mike McDaniel only for McDaniel and the rest of the Dolphins brass to push away from the table and allow the former Crimson Tide quarterback to test free agency.
Tagovailoa is the top available quarterback but after a few quarterback heavy drafts in succession, there aren't a ton of landing spots for 27-year old who will look to reboot his career somewhere else or potentially return to Miami at a lower rate than expected.
Other top quarterbacks available include Jared Goff and Jordan Love, who have started for their previous teams for multiple seasons while a former top three pick in Trey Lance will look to find a new home and perhaps a path back onto the field.

Travis Hunter to Houston likely a done deal following impressive performance in Indy
If there were any doubts that Travis Hunter would end up in Houston with the Texans owning the first two picks in the NFL Draft, Hunter put those doubts to rest with his showing at the NFL Combine after much speculation that the Colorado Buffalo wouldn't even participate.
As expected, Hunter ran a blazing 4.31 in the 40-yard dash, best among corners and weighed in heavier than expected at 190 pounds. Hunter went through both cornerback and receiver drills after being a two-way player for Jackson State and Colorado for the past three seasons.
The Texans drafted Derek Stingley Jr. in the first round back in 2021 but with a generational talent like Hunter, it seems a given that they will continue to invest at the position and make him the number one overall pick in a few weeks.
Here are a few thoughts as we wrap up the 2025 NFL Combine:
Nick Singleton is the type of running back you spend a first round pick on
The Raiders spent a first round pick on Josh Jacobs, didn't want to extend him, franchise tagged him, traded him for a first round pick and then spent very little money to replace his production in a combination of Damien Harris, Laviska Shenault Jr. and Miyan Williams.
With that being said, if you're going to spend assets on a running back, Penn State's Nick Singleton might meet the threshold as he had an outstanding combine and could be an option for the Raiders with Dallas' first round pick which is right around when Singleton is projected to be selected.
Singleton ran the fastest 40-time among the running backs with a 4.35 forty and a 36.9" vertical jump, displaying his explosiveness. Pair that with his production at Penn State and you have a potential day-one starter in the NFL that could rush for over 1,000 yards and provide some added value in the passing game if he can fix the concentration drops.
The Raiders have bigger needs at other position but if Singleton slips to the top of the second round or the players the Raiders want at 16 aren't there, Singleton might be the safest pick.
Dane Key and Tetairoa McMillan might not be the answer at receiver
Plenty of mock drafts have Kentucky's Dane Key and Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan going to Las Vegas in the beginning of the second round but with both players running in the mid 4.5s in the forty, expect those mock drafts to have a different selection in the near future as neither looked great at the combine.
While speed isn't everything and plenty of productive receivers have ran similar time in the 40, the poor showing at the combine certainly will have an impact on their stock and after being fringe second rounders to begin with, they could see their projected placement fall to the third round where the Raiders do have three picks to work with.
It's a good draft to have plenty of assets and a need at corner
Travis Hunter stole all of the headlines and with good reason but there are plenty of corners that the Raiders could be in position to draft that could have a day-one impact.
In the first round, Notre Dame's Benjamin Morrison would be the first corner taken in most drafts. He ran a 4.34 in the forty and showed great acceleration in the 3-cone drill, leading all corners at 6.75 seconds. Oklahoma's Gentry Williams showed great change of direction along with a sub 4.4 time in the forty while a bigger corner like Will Johnson at 202 pounds ran better than expected at 4.51.
There are potentially ten corners with a first round grade in Hunter, Morrison, Williams, Johnson along with Jordan Hancock, Domani Jackson, Daylan Everett, Toriano Pride, Davison Igbinosun and Jacolby Spells.
Some are likely to fall in the second round, giving the Raiders a chance to draft not just one but potentially two corners with their first three picks in the draft.
