Chaticleers C Alan Hofmann Out With Broken Collarbone

Image

Conway, SC. - The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers announced on Monday that starting center Alan Hofmann, who transferred to the program from Texas A&M in the spring, will miss the next seven games after breaking his collarbone late in the 36-24 victory over Notre Dame this weekend.

"We brought Alan in because of his pedigree as a road grading interior blocker, but this is college football. It's next man up," said Vaughn after the announcement.

Redshirt sophomore Nick Cobb is expected to start in the place of Hofmann when the Chanticleers take the field at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Looks like I got alot to catch up on but it appears you have built quite the Dynasty in Conway.. Got to love the Teal Field. How is Boise State doing in your Dynasty.. I didn't see that they made the playoffs in any of your playoff recaps on Page 1..

Thanks man! We out grew the Sun Belt pretty quickly, but the move to independent was a fun adventure. The Teal Field looks awesome, especially if you get the random generated blackout in the stands behind it

Boise's had a rough go of it. They went 9-5 in 2025 then Coach D got hired by the Vols. Boise went 3-9, 6-7, 5-7, then 3-9 again. But Coach D got fired from Tennessee and came right back to The Blue so hopefully he can bring them back

Raleigh, NC. - For Frederick Meredith, Saturday afternoon felt personal.

“Mom and Pops both graduated from NC State — Mom played volleyball, Dad played basketball,” Meredith said earlier in the week. “Honestly? Heading into my senior year, this is where I thought I’d end up. Wearing Wolfpack red. Now? They’re going to be seeing red when they get lit up this weekend.”

NC State never pursued Meredith beyond a cursory recruiting check-in. The redshirt freshman made sure they regretted it.

On Coastal Carolina’s opening drive, Meredith ripped a 33-yard strike to Denard Cruise, then capped the series with a 13-yard swing pass to Devin Hajrullahu — the first of two scores for the electric backfield weapon.

The Wolfpack attempted to answer, driving to midfield before chaos broke loose. Defensive tackle Tyree Washington jarred the ball loose on a sack, only for offensive lineman Kyle Ramsay to scoop it up. His effort to salvage the play ended violently when safety Caleb Karapateas leveled him, forcing a second fumble. This time linebacker Nick Farrior pounced, sprinting the other way for a defensive touchdown.

“Wild,” head coach Kade Vaughn mouthed with a grin on the sideline.

By halftime, Coastal had buried the Wolfpack 31-3, the lone blemish on Meredith’s night coming when he left a sideline throw inside and cornerback Bo Tanking made him pay with an interception.

From there, the Chanticleers dominated in all phases. Meredith finished with over 300 yards of offense, Hajrullahu added another explosive outing, and the defense suffocated NC State — holding them to just 205 total yards and under 200 passing, while racking up five sacks.

Coastal (3-0) now returns home for a marquee showdown with Clemson. The Tigers dealt Vaughn his lone loss to Dabo Swinney last season in Death Valley and will look to make it two straight over Coastal. Clemson, however, limps in off a humbling 41-10 defeat at the hands of No. 1 Miami.

Image
"He was on his back more than a sorority girl", quipped Chanticleers DC Tony White after his defense tallied 5 sacks and hit Kona Quick way more than that in the win.

Image
The lone mistake for Meredith was this leaping interception by Bo Tanking.

Looks like you made the right call sticking with Meridiath at QB and not bringing in a Transfer Portal QB.. Big game against Clemson.. This could be the difference between another run at the playoffs and another chance at the Natty. Then again early season loss's are the easiest to overcome..

After getting him early run and then in the bowl game last season, didn't feel right going and getting a transfer QB again. Time to get some homegrown talent :yep:

We've had Clemson's # so far outside of the loss last year. Even beat them in the 2028 Natty. But it'd be nice to get the W and control our destiny in the conference without having Miami on the schedule, if we get the W at least we'll have the tiebreaker on Clemson

Conway, SC. - A year ago, Clemson finally landed a punch in the budding Coastal Carolina rivalry, riding five Nick Golladay interceptions to their first win over Kade Vaughn’s Chanticleers and snapping a four-game skid. This year, Coastal returned the favor — emphatically.

“I’ve said it all season: losing to a rival stings more than anything else. And the way we lost, to those guys?” Vaughn said postgame, shaking his head. “We had to get that lick back.”

The Chanticleers wasted no time. On their opening drive, Fredrick Meredith marched the offense 75 yards in six plays, capping it with a 13-yard strike to 6-foot-7 tight end Jamal Stephen. After a Clemson three-and-out, Meredith struck again, this time finding Tavares Tinker on a quick out for a 14-0 lead.

Clemson briefly threatened, driving inside the Coastal 5 after a Justice Straight scramble and an Isaiah Kelly catch. The field goal was true, but a roughing the kicker penalty gave the Tigers a new set of downs starting at the two. They eschewed the field goal and gambled for a touchdown. It backfired.

Baraka Higgins was stuffed for a loss, then Straight forced a throw into traffic. Linebacker Ty Oden snatched it for an interception, and Coastal made them pay. Eleven plays later, Meredith found veteran Carl Kopp for a 17-yard touchdown.

By halftime, the Chanticleers led 31-0, thanks in part to a second Straight interception and a 12-yard Hajrullahu score.

Clemson salvaged pride in the second half with a pair of long, clock-chewing drives, but each ended in frustration — a field goal after stalling inside the 5, then a turnover on downs when Clayton Crum was swallowed up at the goal line.

Meredith did toss a third-quarter interception, setting up Clemson’s lone touchdown, but responded instantly: an 87-yard catch-and-run by Tinker that restored Coastal’s swagger and cleared the way for the backups to close out a 48-10 rout.

“We executed the plan perfectly,” defensive coordinator Tony White said. “The idea wasn’t sacks — they’ve got a great O-line. It was to get in Straight’s head, press the receivers, make him uncomfortable. And our guys delivered.”

For Coastal, the win was more than just bragging rights. It restored control of their ACC fate. A year ago, losses to West Virginia and Clemson kept them out of Charlotte and the playoff conversation. This time, with Miami off the schedule, the Tigers may have been their toughest league opponent.

“This was one we circled,” Vaughn admitted. “Now it’s about stacking it.”

The Chanticleers (4-0) won’t have long to savor it. Defending national runner-up Nebraska — ranked No. 5 — comes to The Teal next week for another top-10 showdown.

Clemson went from chipping away at the Chanticleers lead to watching it grow after Straight thew a red zone interception to MLB Ty Oden.

Meredith answered the interception with an 87 yard strike to Tavares Tinker to send the 1st team to the showers.
