Conway, SC. -The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and No. 5 Nebraska Cornhuskers traded blows in a back-and-forth first half at Brooks Stadium, but it was the second half that told the story — and for the home crowd, it was a story with a happy ending.

The first 30 minutes were rough. Four turnovers — two interceptions and two failed fourth-down conversions — left Coastal trailing 20-14 at halftime and had many wondering if the young Chanticleers offense could handle the pressure of a top-five opponent.

Fredrick Meredith’s first two throws of the third quarter only amplified those concerns, both airmailed downfield, prompting murmurs that the aggressive Nebraska pass rush might rattle the redshirt freshman. But the tide turned almost immediately.

On the ensuing punt, Damion Tuttle broke through the coverage before Coastal’s reserve free safety Sean Maggio leveled him and jarred the ball loose. The second-chance opportunity sparked the comeback. Meredith orchestrated a precise drive, culminating in a touchdown strike to 6-foot-7 tight end Jamal Stephen — the first of three TD connections between the pair — giving Coastal a 21-20 lead.

Tuttle’s day went from bad to worse. On the following kickoff, he coughed up the ball again, setting up a 7-yard slashing touchdown run by HB Devin Hajrullahu and expanding the lead to eight.

Nebraska’s final salvo came courtesy of DeMarco Stuber and speedster Kristian Monty, who burned CB Xavier Montague on an 84-yard touchdown. Opting for a two-point conversion to tie, the Cornhuskers were stopped cold as DT Tyree Washington buried Stuber in the backfield, leaving Nebraska trailing by two — the closest they would get.

DC Tony White adjusted the secondary, swapping Montague for quicker Mike Momah, and Nebraska failed to capitalize on several deep shots to Monty in the fourth quarter. Coastal put the game away with Meredith connecting twice more with Stephen as part of a 43-26 victory.

“Couldn’t have played a worse first half, if we’re keeping it 100,” Meredith admitted. “But Coach always says — it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. And we made sure to finish on top today.”

Meredith’s second-half performance was nearly flawless: 13-of-15 for 120 yards and three touchdowns, improving on a shaky 15-of-21, two-interception first half. Hajrullahu, finally unleashed with Justice Spear out in the first quarter, accounted for 201 total yards and two scores. TE Jamal Stephen is quickly emerging as Meredith’s red-zone weapon.

“When you’ve got a guy who’s 6-foot-7, you can just put it out of everyone else’s reach and tell him to get it,” Meredith joked. “He’s pretty good at that.”

With back-to-back wins over top-10 opponents, Coastal has made a statement, but the challenge isn’t over. Next up: a date with the 21st-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers, the team that torpedoed last year’s CFP hopes with a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback.

Kristian Monty was serving toast on Xavier Montague, prompting DC Tony White to make the necessary adjustment and shut down the vertical passing game.

Image
Devin Hajrullahu has been explosive, but the nation finally saw the HB do it all as he tallied 201 total yards in relief of Justice Spear.

It was a rough 1st half for Fredrick Meredith with two interceptions and two failed 4th down conversions.

Alright, so I got inspired by Caesar and decided to use ChatGPT to build a random scenario generator for each season. Here’s how it’s going to work:

Step 1: Time Frames
During the preseason, I’ll run the generator to randomly select time frames for the year. These range from preseason, through all 14 weeks, conference championship week, the four bowl weeks, and the offseason. Each season will have at least three events, but there’s no max cap.

Step 2: Scenario Selection
When we hit one of those selected time frames, I’ll run the second part of the generator — the scenario draw. GPT picks from a pool of 150 scenarios, all based on real-life college football events. Outcomes range from “nothing happens” to “career ending.” The distribution looks like this:
• 50%: Minor / no incident
• 25%: Mild (1-game suspension)
• 15%: Medium (multi-game suspension)
• 7%: Severe (season ending)
• 3%: Extreme (career ending)

Step 3: Player Assignment
Once the event is picked, I run a jersey number RNG. Whatever player wears that number gets hit with the scenario. If the number isn’t in use, I’ll re-roll. For minor/mild scenarios, three jersey numbers get drawn. If one doesn’t match a player, the other two still count. If multiple don’t match, I’ll re-run until we get valid hits.

If the same player gets tagged more than once with minor/mild incidents, punishments escalate. Example: QB gets a minor (just a warning), then later gets a mild (1-game suspension). Since he already had a warning, that suspension bumps to two games.

In addition - any felony arrests will result in a dismissal from the program weather they are season ending or career ending.

Program Penalties
On top of that, I’ll track a running total of infractions for the entire program. Once Coastal crosses certain thresholds, penalties kick in:

Points Program Penalty
0–4 Warning / Internal Review
5–9 -5 scholarships
10–14 -10 scholarships
15–19 1-year recruiting limit (-10 scholarships, max 3 transfers)
20–24 2-year recruiting limit (-12 scholarships, max 1 transfer)
25–29 3-year recruiting limit (-15 scholarships, no transfers)
30+ 4-year recruiting limit (-20 scholarships, no transfers)

Points reset each season unless a punishment carries over (like a suspension spilling into next year). Career-ending suspensions count against the program for however long that player had eligibility left.

I’m starting this with Week 6 since I’m already through the first five weeks. Anything that would’ve landed earlier this season just gets skipped.

Also — I’m open to tweaking the program penalties. I came up with these on the fly. We obviously can’t do bowl bans or CFP bans, so I felt limiting scholarships and transfers was the best workaround.

Meredith gotta cut down on them picks. That's going to kill you in games that aren't such blowouts.

I accept all forms of payment for ideas :troll:

:kghah: schedule gets easier once we get through WVU. Legit shot at an undefeated regular season then I'm assuming it'll be either Clemson or Louisville in the ACC CCG since Miami shit the bed to start the season.

Coastal’s Maggio Arrested on Felony Assault Charge After Win Over Nebraska

Image

Conway, SC. - Less than 24 hours after Coastal Carolina's statement victory over the 5th ranked Cornhuskers, the program was rocked by the arrest of sophomore defensive back Sean Maggio, who was taken into custody early Sunday morning and charged with felony assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature (ABHAN) under South Carolina law.

Maggio, 20, was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with felony aggravated assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature (ABHAN) after an altercation at an off-campus party spiraled out of control. According to the Horry County Police Department, Maggio allegedly struck another individual multiple times during an argument, causing serious bodily injury that required hospitalization. Witnesses told police the altercation escalated quickly and ended with Maggio being restrained by several attendees before officers arrived.

The arrest comes just hours after Maggio, a former five-star recruit out of Lehigh Acres, Fla., made a pivotal play on special teams against the Cornhuskers. His third-quarter forced fumble set up a Coastal touchdown that helped swing momentum in the eventual victory at Brooks Stadium.

On Sunday afternoon, head coach Kade Vaughn announced that Maggio has been dismissed from the program, effective immediately.

“This is a heartbreaking and serious situation,” Vaughn said in a prepared statement. “Sean made a costly mistake, and now he has another battle to fight beyond football. Our responsibility is to hold our players accountable, and his actions leave us no choice but to move on without him. I hope this serves as a reminder to every young man in our locker room — and across college athletics — that a single decision can change your life in an instant. We wish Sean the best as he faces the consequences of his actions.”

Maggio was one of the most highly-touted recruits ever to sign with Coastal Carolina, as the 5* prospect and 20th overall recruit chose the Chanticleers over offers from Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State in 2029. While he had yet to crack the starting lineup in the secondary, his size and athleticism made him a core contributor on special teams and a key depth piece for the defense.

The school said it would not comment further on the pending legal matter.

Maggio was booked into the Horry County Detention Center at 3:27 a.m. and remains held on a $25,000 bond. The condition of the victim has not been released, though police described the injuries as “serious.”

Conway, SC. - A year ago, West Virginia spoiled Coastal Carolina’s playoff hopes with a fourth-quarter comeback. On Saturday, the Chanticleers didn’t leave any doubt.

After absorbing an early flurry from WVU quarterback Malik Slate, Coastal ripped off a 45–3 run to cruise past the Mountaineers, continuing their brutal early-season gauntlet with another ranked win.

Slate opened 9-for-9 with 136 yards and two touchdowns, but the Chanticleers’ defense adjusted and gradually wore him down. He finished just 11-for-23 the rest of the way, with no additional scores.

“It was just a matter of taking those early blows and not getting knocked down,” defensive coordinator Tony White said. “The more he got hit, the more jittery he became.”

That pressure — only three official sacks, but at least a dozen hits — swung momentum squarely in Coastal’s favor.

Quarterback Fredrick Meredith bounced back from a two-interception outing last week with a precise 23-of-28, 234-yard, four-touchdown performance. But the headliner was senior tailback Devin Hajrullahu, who posted his second consecutive 200-yard day: 105 rushing yards, 118 receiving yards, and four total touchdowns.

“There’s a reason we kept him under wraps to start the season,” head coach Kade Vaughn said with a smirk. “Keep the tires fresh.”

The game’s turning point came early in the third quarter. Trailing 24–14, West Virginia forced a fumble from Coastal’s Justice Spear, setting up prime field position at the Chants’ 30-yard line. Instead of capitalizing, WVU gave the ball right back: defensive end Alphonso Smith strip-sacked Slate and fell on the ball himself. Coastal answered with a seven-play march capped by Hajrullahu’s second receiving touchdown, effectively sealing the game.

With the 52–17 win, Coastal improves to 6–0, a run that already includes victories over both 2030 national title participants, rival Clemson, and now West Virginia. In all, the Chanticleers have beaten five ranked opponents before mid-October.

Next up: a road trip to Blacksburg to face struggling Virginia Tech (1–5).

Image
As the pressure mounted, Slate was unable to deliver after three sacks and numerous big hits by the Chanticleers defense.

Image
Malcolm Rashed's leaping grab turned into a long touchdown when the WR kept his balance, while CB Mike Momah hit the deck.

Image
Alphonso Smith ending the quick scoring opportunity with a strip sack in the 2nd half.
