NDSU Offense puts up strong showing in Green and Gold game
THE BISON HELD THEIR ANNUAL SPRING GAME
April 28, 2018
FARGO, N.D. – The QB situation at NDSU has seen some big changes over the past few months. With Easton Stick leaving early for the NFL and former Minnesota Gopher Cade Cannon joining his brother Cody in Fargo there were questions about what the Bison offense might look like in 2018.
If the Green and Gold game is any indication then "really good" is the answer.
In what was more of a series of drills and drives than an actual game the Bison offense was mostly lighting it up against the defense with Cade Cannon leading his offensive group to four scores on their possessions. Cannon ran for a 42 yard score and connected with Darrius Shepherd, his brother Cody Cannon and Nate Jenson for touchdowns. Cannon then turned things over to Holden Hotchkiss, who led the offense to scores on two of his four possessions. Hotchkiss connected with Christian Watson for one score and handed it off to Adam Cofield for another.
The defense did make some solid plays against both offensive groups, including a stop on fourth and three on Lance's second possession and a strong showing in the red zone on the final possession of the "game".
"We definitely liked what we were seeing out there today." Offensive coordinator Courtney Messingham said after the event. "We've got a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball and we operated like a well oiled machine today so that's encouraging for us."
North Dakota State will open their regular season on September 1st at home against Cal Poly.
