Roy vs. Gomes
The Dallas Rangers had a revolving door at QB in 2014. 2012 fourth-round draft pick Brian Johnson started eight games, throwing 10 touchdowns to 9 interceptions. In eight games, the day-one starter was their 2012 first-round pick, Scott Roy. Roy tossed 8 touchdowns to 6 interceptions, completing a low 55.6% of his passes. Roy has been inconsistent and underwhelming for the Rangers. He had a 57% completion percentage, 34 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions in his career. Injuries also plagued his tenure, with a ruptured Achilles at the end of the 2013 season and a broken foot in 2014. He's been benched several times throughout as well. The Dallas front office signed former Kings back-up Vincent Gomes, a 13 year veteran with starting experience in Birmingham. During training camp, they have held an open competition between the three QBs, but the real focus is on Roy and Gomes. Local reports indicate that the now-healthy, younger Roy has had an impressive camp thus far. But he needs to prove he is their man in the preseason, or he'll be watching the experienced Gomes lead the team this offseason. Gomes last started a game in 2012 with the Swashbucklers. He has completed 63.7% of his passes in his career for 59 touchdowns and 46 interceptions.

Grove Not Missing a Step
Bernard Grove is coming off his MVP season and into possibly another one after a very dominant performance against the Los Angeles Stars, with the Wasps winning 45-38. It was an intense, back-and-forth shootout between the juggernaut offenses. Grove was nearly unstoppable, both from the pocket and using his legs to extend and make plays. On 26 pass attempts, he only missed two while throwing for 439 yards, rushing for another 49, and accounting for every Wasps touchdown (5 total). His stellar performance earned him the MLF AP Offensive Player of the Week.

The Stars received solid play from their quarterback Dennis Dell, who competed in training camp and the preseason to earn the starting job. He completed 65.1% of his passes for 345 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Stars offense produced 415 yards of offense was trumped by the Wasps 509 as neither defense held their ground.

Jeffrey Cline Puts Doubters on Notice
The consensus among analysts and evaluators was that the 2015 MLF draft was weak at the quarterback position. Those observations did not deter the Boston Rampage from selecting UCF star QB Jeffrey Cline with the number one overall pick. Scouts and analysts agreed he was likely the best quarterback in the class but questioned whether he was a first-round talent, let alone the number one overall player. He was a winner in college, which continued in his first professional appearance with the Rampage.

Cline had an elite showing against the Orlando Sharks, going 24/31 (77.4%), 241 yards, and 3 touchdowns with no turnovers. The Rampage came away with a walk-off field goal win, 24-23, after Cline led the offense to the Orlando 29 yard line with 35 seconds left in the game. Cline demonstrated poise and accuracy as he attacked the Orlando secondary.

"It's hard to ask more from your young QB," Rampage head coach Houston Lynn told media after the game. "We think it can only get better from here."

Red Devils Upset the Thunderhawks in Week One
The expansion team in Cleveland finished 3-13 in their first-ever season in 2014. They are off to a better start in 2015, as they defeated the favored Lincoln Thunderhawks 20-14 this week. QB Gary Nunez was on target, throwing for over 350 yards and 2 touchdowns. Receiver Tre Matthews accounted for 110 of those yards on 9 receptions.

The Thunderhawk comeback effort fell short after tailback Dean Mora could not make it out of bounds in time, and with no timeouts, they were unable to stop the clock for the final toss into the endzone.

Hurricanes Rock the Storm 52-3 in Week One Drudging
While the Red Devils started hot, the Honolulu Storm still has some ways to go. They were bludgeoned by the Charlotte Hurricanes, 52-3. The Storm scored their only points of the game with 3:15 to go in the third quarter on a 33-yard field goal attempt from Paul Hyatt. They mustered a measly 209 total offensive yards.

The Hurricanes' starters and back-ups were more than the Storm could handle. Starters were pulled in the third quarter, and the second and third-string players for the Hurricanes scored three more times in the fourth.

Rakeem Reid Terrorizes the Kings
Defensive back Rakeem Reid was a menace on defense for the Baltimore Raptors. He forced and recovered three fumbles as the Kings' receiver Alan Addison IV fumbled twice, and tailback Jeff Whitt fumbled once.

Reid took advantage of poor mistakes by the Kings, which included a blocked punt, as the Raptors held on for a 24-19 victory.

Players of the Week
SLC QB Bernard Grove: 24/26 (92.3%), 439 yards, 4 TDs, 49 rush yards, 1 rush TD
BAL CB Rakeem Reid: 8 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries
