Roy vs. Gomes
The Dallas Rangers had a revolving door at QB in 2014. 2012 fourth-round draft pick Brian Johnson started eight games, throwing 10 touchdowns to 9 interceptions. In eight games, the day-one starter was their 2012 first-round pick, Scott Roy. Roy tossed 8 touchdowns to 6 interceptions, completing a low 55.6% of his passes. Roy has been inconsistent and underwhelming for the Rangers. He had a 57% completion percentage, 34 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions in his career. Injuries also plagued his tenure, with a ruptured Achilles at the end of the 2013 season and a broken foot in 2014. He's been benched several times throughout as well. The Dallas front office signed former Kings back-up Vincent Gomes, a 13 year veteran with starting experience in Birmingham. During training camp, they have held an open competition between the three QBs, but the real focus is on Roy and Gomes. Local reports indicate that the now-healthy, younger Roy has had an impressive camp thus far. But he needs to prove he is their man in the preseason, or he'll be watching the experienced Gomes lead the team this offseason. Gomes last started a game in 2012 with the Swashbucklers. He has completed 63.7% of his passes in his career for 59 touchdowns and 46 interceptions.
