Patriots defense tees off on Corral despite 400-yard game, holds on to victory
A week removed from seeing their lead vanished away against the Kansas City Chiefs to eventually lose in overtime, New England's defense was determined to make a stand this time around.

Despite surrendering 400 passing yards to reigning league MVP Matt Corral, Mike Tomlin's first game against the Pittsburgh Steelers was a successful one, hanging on to beat them 18-13 on Monday night despite the offense not scoring a single touchdown.

New England took the two-point lead thanks to a 22-yard field goal by Justin Tucker early in the fourth quarter and forced back-to-back three and outs from Pittsburgh's offense to extend their lead to five following Tucker's sixth field goal of the game.

A 50-yard completion on 3rd and 20 from the Pittsburgh 9-yard line gave the Steelers new life as JuJu Smith-Schuster was able to leap above Jaire Alexander and come down with the ball. Pittsburgh would get as far as the New England 17-yard line but then followed it up with a net of one yard on the next two plays to Najee Harris followed by an incompletion on fourth and three to Smith-Schuster.

New England to be without several key starters following win over Pittsburgh
In a very physical game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New England Patriots came out victorious but suffered losses along the way as Wednesday's injury report included new additions in offensive tackle Trent Brown, nose tackle Akiem Hicks, edge rushers Quincey Thompkins and DeAngelo Malone.

All four players did not practice and are not expected to be on the field this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. New England does have the luxury of having a bye week following the Colts game before traveling to Houston, giving some of those players an extra week to potentially return.

Thompkins and Malone's injury are especially impactful with Ronnie Perkins already being on the injury report. New England will also be without Quinnen Williams and Jaylon Smith who continue to be out.

Patriots land Rams' Odell Beckham Jr. at trade deadline
The New England Patriots have acquired Los Angeles Rams receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in exchange for two fourth round and a fifth round pick in the upcoming draft. In order to open up a roster spot for Beckham, New England then traded receiver and team captain Kendrick Bourne along with a fourth and fifth round pick to the Cleveland Browns for a third round pick.

Beckham Jr. had requested a trade from Los Angeles earlier this week due to what he viewed as an inconsistent role on the team according to reports. The 31-year old receiver caught 76 passes in his first full season with the Rams in 2022 but saw that number go down to 57 last season and was currently on pace to catch 46 passes this year. Beckham Jr. is set to make $9.17 million this season and $9.99 million next season after approaches by the Rams for Beckham to take a pay cut heading into the season weren't successful.

Los Angeles is also high on former third round pick Kyrin Lacey who caught fourteen passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie but hasn't played more than six snaps in a given game this season and has so far failed to catch a pass.

In eight games this season, Bourne has caught 18 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns while Beckham Jr. has caught 22 passes for 263 yards and a touchdown. Beckham will likely be limited in his first game against Indianapolis.

New England also released receiver Josh Johnson and elevated defensive tackle Kalen Young from their practice squad.

OBJ, Mac lead the way against Colts in Patriots' win
Odell Beckham Jr. came to New England from Los Angeles to have a bigger role in the offense and in his first game, it was vintage OBJ with the one-handed catches, leaping over defenders and even getting into the endzone.

Beckham Jr. caught six passes for 95 yards and a touchdown in New England's 27-6 win over Indianapolis on Sunday in dominating fashion.

Mac Jones and Beckham Jr. almost connected on two more touchdowns which would have put the game well out of hand although they weren't needed. On the other sideline, Carson Wentz got off to a hot start, throwing for 88 yards in the first quarter but would finish the game completing just 58 percent of his passes for 208 yards and no touchdowns.

Jonathan Taylor was held to 2.9 yards per carry on just eleven carries.
