New England will try to fix defensive woes without two key contributors
The New England Patriots will be without top pass rusher Matthew Judon and interior defensive lineman Davon Godchaux in their Thursday Night Football matchup against the New York Jets.

This isn't what the doctor ordered for a team that surrendered 44 points to an offense that was among the worst last season. The team is already without defensive back Jalen Mills although Mills has been limited in the past few practices, a sign he could return by next week and potentially this week, had it not been the short turn around.

While fourteen of Chicago's points came on defense, New England's defense failed to generate much pressure on Justin Fields and allowed him to extend plays with his legs and his receivers won their fair share of 50/50 balls while also exploiting the middle of the defense. On paper, New York is more talented on the outside with the addition of Chris Godwin to join Corey Davis and Elijah Moore.

Jets woes continue against Patriots despite revamped roster
Nothing could go right for Mac Jones as he ended the first quarter with his second interception of the day and his fourth of the season already. New England's defense, however, kept making plays and made life tough for Zach Wilson and eventually, Jones and the Patriots offense got it going and never looked back.

Jones threw for 351 yards and four touchdowns in New England's 46-7 rout of the Jets on Thursday to extend New England's winning streak against their AFC rival to thirteen with ten of them being decided by ten points or more.

New England scored three times in two minutes right before the end of the half with Jones finding Jakobi Meyers for a nine-yard touchdown pass before Wilson was sacked for a safety on the next Jets possession with 1:33 left in the half. New England got the ball back and Jones connected with Jonnu Smith for 7 yards before finding James White for 20-yards, setting up his best throw of the night, a 38-yard touchdown pass to a streaking Smith in the left corner of the field for a touchdown.

The Jets would score before the half in what would be their only touchdown of the day. Wilson finished 23 of 45 for 212 yards with Melvin Gordon III carrying the bulk of the offense with 92 rushing yards and 101 receiving yards, accounting for nearly 86 percent of the Jets offense. Fellow free agent acquisition Chris Godwin was held to just one reception and was covered most of the night by rookie cornerback Roger McCreary.

What does Jalen Mills' return to the lineup mean for New England?
New England Patriots defensive back Jalen Mills is expected to make his season debut this week against the Tennessee Titans after missing the first two games of the season with an injury.

A versatile defensive back that primarily played safety with the Philadelphia Eagles before being a full-time corner last season in his first year with New England, Mills rotated at both corner and safety during training camp and preseason.

It remains to be seen if the zero linebacker defense that New England trotted out against Seattle in the second quarter is back in action this week with Mills back on the active roster. Against the Seahawks passing attack led by Wilson, Mills lined up at safety along with Devin McCourty while 'safeties' Adrian Phillips and Kyle Dugger were in the box as linebackers. At 220 and 210 pounds respectively, Dugger and Phillips are bigger safeties but against Tennessee this weekend, it might not be the time for such a look.

It figures to be a run-first attack from the Titans which could bode well for Pats LB Kyle Van Noy. Van Noy has struggled this season, primarily in coverage, fielding a PFF coverage grade of 46.8 and 31.2 in his first two outings.

Isaiah Wynn is also activated from the injury report and will be active. New England sent offensive tackle John Ojukwu to their practice squad and signed free agent LB Shaquille Quarterman to the active roster after Quarterman was released by the Jaguars this week and picked up by the Patriots to be on their practice squad for two days before the promotion.
