Tennessee led 17-0 at the break via a 28 yard field goal by Randy Bullock in the first quarter and Tannehill TD passes to Firkser and Brown in the second. Nick Folk put the Patriots on the board with a 24 yard field goal midway through the third quarter and Jones connected with Meyers for a 22 yard score with 23 seconds left in the third. Harris made it 24-17 in the fourth. After Henry's late TD made it 31-17 the Pats kept it interesting with Jones hitting Meyers again for a nine yard score with 34 seconds to play. Tennessee turned the ball over four times in a 21-24 loss to the Steelers at Heinz Field, ending their win streak in the process. Pittsburgh also recorded five sacks in the game.

Despite the loss the Titans locked up a playoff spot following other results around the league.

Tennessee jumped out to an early lead when receiver Josh Reynolds scored on a nine yard run on a Jet Sweep to cap the Titans' first possession.

Pittsburgh answered with a TD run by rookie Najee Harris to make it 7-7 after a quarter.

The Steelers scored ten more in the second quarter coming on a seven yard pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Harris and a 44 yard Boswell field goal.

Pittsburgh further extended their lead to 24-7 on a 21 yard Roethlisberger TD pass to James Washington in the third.

Derrick Henry and Ryan Tannehill added rushing touchdowns in the third and fourth quarter respectively to make the final score 24-21 Pittsburgh.

Tannehill threw a pair of interceptions and lost the ball on a fumble. Jeremy McNichols also coughed it up in the loss.

"Just too many turnovers to overcome. Can't turn it over four times, especially on the road against a team like that." Mike Vrabel said after the loss.

TITANS LOSE SECOND STRAIGHT IN ANOTHER TURNOVER FEST VS 49ERS

Image

December 23rd, 2021
Nissan Stadium
Nashville, Tennessee

SF (8-7)|00|07|06|14|27
TEN (11-4)|06|00|06|03|15
Ryan Tannehill was picked off five times in an ugly loss to San Francisco on Thursday night. The 49ers defense put pressure on Tannehill from the first snap and kept it up all game long, not allowing the Titans' passer to ever get comfortable. Nick Bosa recorded 3 sacks and had several more QB hits and pressures.

Two of the interceptions came in the first half, allowing San Francisco to hold a 7-6 break at the half despite putting together only one decent drive on offense.

Tennessee scored on their first possession with Khari Blasingame scoring on a six yard run after using up nearly half of the first quarter. Randy Bullock missed the point after.

The 49ers took a 7-6 lead early in the second quarter when Trey Lance and Philip Dorsett connected for a 10 yard score.

The teams exchanged punts and turnovers throughout the rest of the first half and the Niners held the one point lead.

Early in the second half Derrick Henry put the Titans on top with a brutal 68 yard TD run, leaving a trail of broken-hearted 49ers defenders in his wake. Tennessee went for two but were stopped short on a Henry run up the middle.

The Niners added a pair of Joey Slye field goals with a Tannehill interception between them, taking a 13-12 lead into the fourth quarter.

Bullock's 18 yard field goal early on in the fourth quarter put Tennessee back on top 15-13. It would be the Titans' last lead of the game as San Francisco capitalized on two more takeaways to score 14 unanswered points to close out the win.

Tennessee drops to 11-4 on the season and will hope for some help from the Steelers as they face the streaking Chiefs this Sunday. Kansas City is currently 9-5 and has their sights set on stealing the number one seed in the AFC.

Tannehill has now thrown seven interceptions in the past two games with now touchdowns. Tennessee had been on a nine game win streak before the pair of losses.

“We've got some extra time now.” Head Coach Mike Vrabel said. “We'll put these two games behind us and hit the practice field hard before these last two games. Better to face some adversity now.”
