2022 Could See Huge QB Movement

Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson, Jimmy Garoppolo and Tua Tagovailoa are just a few of the quarterbacks who could be on the move this offseason in what could be the biggest shake up in starting quarterbacks that the league has seen in quite some time.

Rodgers, who expressed his displeasure with the Packer's front office last season, could look to leave Green Bay and set off a domino effect of sorts if he does.

Speculation is that Rodgers would look to move to a contender who is a QB away from greatness and try to get another ring for a couple seasons before retiring, much like Tom Brady has done in Tampa Bay. Pittsburgh has been the favorite to land him since before last season started, however, Ben Roethlisberger has yet to officially retire.

Deshaun Watson, who wanted out of Houston even before his legal troubles began, has been tied to Miami for over a year. The Dolphins initially distanced themselves from Watson when the sexual assault allegations first surfaced but could be back in the running. Watson has also been rumored to Carolina but the Panthers have a lot tied up in Sam Darnold so they may be hesitant to move on.

Obviously if Watson does end up in Miami that would make Tua Tagovailoa expendable and he could end up anywhere where a veteran has vacated.

Russell Wilson appears to be ready to move on from Seattle and he has been tied to the Giants for a few years now. With new head coach Byron Leftwich and GM John Spytek at the helm now could be the time that Giants make a move, especially with their current draft capital, giving the new regime a chance to make a big splash early. Much like in Miami if Wilson does take over then the Giants would likely try to move Daniel Jones.

Jimmy Garoppolo struggled in San Francisco and was replaced by Trey Lance who led his team to a superbowl win, thus ending the Jimmy G era in San Fran. Atlanta has reportedly been in contact with the Niners already as they look to replace the retired Matt Ryan.

Adding to the potential whirlwind is a recent announcement by Colin Kaepernick that he would consider a return depending on which teams call. Kap hasn't played in years but given the low quality of QBs that saw significant playing time last season he could be an improvement in the right situation.

The upcoming draft is light at the QB position so teams that think they may be contending if they can add a more talented QB will be more inclined to pull the trigger on a trade or a big contract to make that happen sooner than later.

Tannehill, Titans Restructure Deal

The Titans saw a great regular season fizzle away in their divisional playoff loss to Buffalo and they'll be looking to add the pieces that will hopefully help put them over the top this offseason. A lack of cap space was going to make that a problem. After re-signing linebackers Rashaan Evans, Harold Landry and Jayon Brown along with center Ben Jones during the regular season the Titans had around eight million in cap space.

"The goal is to win and if I can help do that on the field and do something from a contract standpoint that works for both sides and help on the field then I'm all for it. Tom Brady did it for years in New England and that worked out pretty good up there." Tannehill said.

Details aren't fully known but it looks to be a four-year deal with a base salary of around 80 million and adds several incentives that could make it worth over 100 million. The deal frees up around 18 million in cap space this year and next and should allow to team to address some of their needs as well as re-sign some of their current free agents.

Rodgers to sign with Steelers

Aaron Rodgers has agreed to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers when free agency officially opens in three days. Rodgers, who played in Green Bay for the past 17 seasons and threw for over 400 touchdowns with the Packers, wasted little time making his decision.

"It's a lot of things." He explained. "History, the roster they have there, coaching, front office, fans. It's a package deal and the ideal situation."

While rumors of Rodgers to Pittsburgh have been swirling since last fall there were still many who believed Rodgers would reconcile with the Packers and finish his hall of fame career in the cheese state. Others asserted that if he did leave Green Bay he would head for sunny weather in Florida or California.

Rodgers, an unquestioned first ballot hall of famer, replaces another hall of fame passer in Ben Roethlisberger who hinted at retirement last season then left the door open for a return in 2022 before confirming his retirement at the end of last week.

Rodgers joins a team with a talented young defense and some great skill players on offense. The Steelers will look to improve their offensive line and possibly add another receiver for Rodgers to throw to.

Signing Rodgers should make Pittsburgh one of the favorites in the AFC. The Steelers can put off the lean years expected when replacing a hall of fame QB for the time being while Rodgers gets a change of scenery and a chance at another Superbowl ring.

For Green Bay they'll find out what they have in Jordan Love, who they drafted in the first round in 2020, setting the Rodgers departure in motion.

Rodgers' exact contract details have yet to be released but it is believed to be a two year deal worth around 60 million with the majority of it fully guaranteed.

Rodgers turned 38 in December.

Despite the photoshop posted above Rodgers likely won't wear 12 in Pittsburgh as he and Terry Bradshaw haven't had the best relationship lately.

Now that Rodgers has made the first splash we expect to see a number of other signings announced in the next few hours, including an announcement by Russell Wilson, who made no secret of the fact that he was waiting for Rodgers to sign first, scheduled for later this week.
