im honestly surprised by the success he's having :camdead:

I've tried to set up similar players in the past in my Bulls chise and I've even gone out of my way to not target him too much and let the 'Ask Madden' feature call the plays but he still effortlessly ends up with damn near 20 touches a game

The plan was for him to compete at QB post DTR but goddamn, son might be a full-time WR hybrid now

'They call him Wonder Bread'; McCoy's moniker is fitting in more ways than one
Eric Lee -- Los Angeles Daily News Sports Writer

UCLA true freshman superstar Braxton McCoy isn't sure who first called him 'Wonder Bread' but he just knows the nickname stuck, following him from the youth football field to everywhere else he went.

"It might have been a coach or something," McCoy recalls, "I was the new kid on a team and it just stuck, I'm glad it did."

Back then -- not much different than right now -- McCoy was a wonder: a skinny white kid that was playing two age groups ahead of his peers on a predominantly black team. Before McCoy's legendary spread throughout San Diego, every year would start the same with coaches wondering why his father, former San Diego State fullback Braxton McCoy Sr, was insistent on his son playing on their team.

"He was just so small that most parents would probably have him play a level below or something," says Eric Smith, one of McCoy's youth coaches, "[McCoy Sr.] would leave his neighborhood to have [McCoy Jr.] play with the older kids and at first you didn't know why but it didn't take more than one play for it to make sense, it wasn't fair to them little boys.

"I had high school coaches asking about him in like the sixth grade, I'd just tell them 'they call him Wonder Bread'."

The likes of Steve Largent, Jordy Nelson, Christian McCaffrey and Cooper Kupp are few and far in between, leaving the white offensive skill player as an enigma while white defensive backs that aren't hard hitting, 'cerebral' safeties are a complete phenomena. McCoy was both as he terrorized San Diego youth leagues, scoring nearly double digit touchdowns in just about every game he played and frequently intercepting passes as a corner.

Much like his younger days, McCoy's play and skin tone has catapulted him into superstardom in his first season with the Bruins, a season that was supposed to be an apprenticeship. McCoy flashed in the spring to the coaching staff, enough for them to realize that he was going to have a role on the team but the plan heading into fall camp was to feed the freshman, who was making the transition back from quarterback to receiver, as much information as possible until he'd inevitably hit the freshman wall in camp and that would be his role.

The wall never came and McCoy's presence in the offense continued to grow throughout camp as the offense was being installed. In his first ever collegiate game, McCoy threw five passes, carried the ball eleven times and caught six passes.

With his freshman season coming around to the final lap, McCoy has thrown a passing touchdown, rushed for four and caught nine, currently leading the Pac-12 in receiving yards (922) and yards per carry (9.0).

He was named a finalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year and the Biletnikoff Award, neither of which have ever been won by a true freshman. For the player they call 'Wonder Bread', it would only be fitting if he was the first one to ever do both.

yeah he's not a "true receiver" so mostly running go routes or deep crosses from the slot. he did a bit more in between stuff in the pac 12 championship game since oregon was in a two deep shell for damn near the entire game outside of that time he got loose
