INTRO: Leaders Of The Pac | Stanford Cardinal Football

Trying something a little different this time around.

I'm going to treat this kinda like a blog/diary rather than a full blown dynasty report. It will have key updates throughout the season and focus only on our team for the most part. College football is great for chising because of the constant roster turnaround and constant record chasing from a historical standpoint.

I'll probably play all the games (at least most of them), but won't report on every single one. Probably just a selection of key games and leave out all the fluff.

Stanford is a fun team, but not nearly talented enough to compete in the conference yet, let alone for a National Championship as of starting this. Power conferences are more fun to me, so building up Stanford should be a fun project.

I'll be writing this from the perspective of new head coach, Marcel Van Pousse, so we can track coaching records and whatnot from the beginning.

To be updated later...

PRE S1: Season Preview

Not a great team here in year one, especially when you consider the talent within the conference.

Impact Players

Let's start with the offense... Tanner McKee is a budding stud. He's a 6-foot-6, 230 sophomore, and has a really strong arm. A little bit slower than I'd like, but more or less the prototypical QB for my system. At tailback is So. EJ Smith, the great Emmitt Smith's son. He's all right. Decent size and strength, but a little slow. Luckily we have Fr. Brendon Barrow and Fr. Arlen Harris waiting in the wings with some better speed, but they don't offer much else for now. They will both fit into our spread offense in certain packages.

Michael Wilson, a 6-foot-2 senior, is the leader of the receiving corps and captain of the offense. Hands of gold, but runs like he has a refrigerator on his back... he's THAT slow. Might find himself as a converted tight end at times. Behind him are Elijah Higgins and Brycen Tremayne, both seniors, both also pretty slow, but boast good size.

The defense is led by Kyu Blu Kelly at corner. He's a solid cover corner and a great tackler for his position. He'll also start the season returning kicks. In the backfield with him is Kendall Williamson. The senior free safety is going to be a key cog in our defense and helping make sure we don't get beat deep over and over again.

Lastly, edge Stephen Herron should be noted as the team's best pass rusher. He could play a little d-end or linebacker, so he'll be a good versatile player for us this year (and next).

Schedule Outlook

This schedule is pretty brutal. But, it always will be when you play in a power conference - and especially if USC keeps Lincoln Riley around.

We kick things off with in-state rival Fresno State. Not a cupcake matchup by any means. This game could really set the tone for the season. Things really pick up a couple weeks later with tilts against Notre Dame and USC with a bye squeezed between. Another in-state rivalry game with UCLA looms in week eight before finishing a tough Pac-12 string against Wazzou, Oregon State, and finally Oregon to round out the year.

We're looking forward to seeing what this dynasty brings in year one.

S1 W1: Season Kickoff Vs Fresno State

Fresno State entered the game as the No. 35 ranked team in the nation. Better than we thought.

They had us somewhere in the 90's. Yikes.

As expected, Fresno jumped out to an early lead with a field goal. When we got the ball, their defense forced a three-and-out and ended up returning our punt all the way back for a score. It was 10-0 in the blink of an eye.

Things never really picked up for us. EJ Smith scampered out for a 20-yard run and followed up with a few short catches, but ended up fumbling in the redzone and gave the momentum right back to the Bulldogs.

We were down by over 20 points by the half.

Our defense did a decent job adjusting for the second half and broke up a few potentially big plays. Kyu Blu Kelly swatted away five passes!

On offense, our struggles continued, as Tanner McKee seemingly couldn't complete any throws longer than about seven yards.

After a few more scores, the bloodbath finally ended. We did kick a field goal though.

Impact Players

QB Tanner McKee: 13/28, 86 Yards, 72.2 QB Rating
HB EJ Smith: 14 Rushes, 53 Yards, Fum, 3 Rec, 17 Rec Yards
WR Brycen Tremayne: 4 Rec, 31 Yards
LB Lavani Damuni: 5 Tackles, 1 TFL, 1 Int
CB Kyu Blu Kelly: 1 Tackle, 5 Pass Deflections
