Texas Tech football coaches hit the road in search of talent for roster overhaul
Stephon C. -- Staking The Plains, a Texas Tech blog

Recruiting never stops, even when you're undefeated with a highly anticipated matchup against Oklahoma looming.

Several Texas Tech football coaches were on the road during the team's bye week following the win over New Mexico, including offensive coordinator Neal Brown who was at East Side High School in Cleveland, Mississippi according to the school's social media page.

Brown appeared to have visited several high schools while in the area but East Side stands out the most as the Red Raiders recently offered Class of 2013 quarterback James Earl Little Jr. a scholarship.

Little Jr. is starting to get some recruiting buzz with his name appearing on some recruiting board for the Vanderbilt Commodores and West Virginia Mountaineers but on this side of the Mississippi, it seems that Brown and Co. might have found a bit of unearthed gem as Little Jr. remains unranked.

Little Jr. is the son of James Earl Little Sr, the former quarterback at Southern Mississippi who don't appear to have offered the quarterback just yet. He does hold a scholarship offer from South Alabama according to his recruiting page on Rivals.com in addition to an offer from UAB and now Texas Tech, squarely putting the Red Raiders in the lead should they really want him.

Southern Miss making late push for legacy prospect out of East Side High School
Cherokee Kimble -- The Sun Sentinel Sports Columnist

Before becoming the all-time winningest coach at East Side High School (Cleveland, MS), James Earl Little Sr. was an accomplished quarterback at the University of Southern Missississippi. It's only right that the Golden Eagles top target at quarterback is his son, who broke the school's single season records for completions, attempts, passing yards and passing touchdowns with still the postseason left to play.

James Earl Little Jr. remains an unranked prospect on all recruiting services but it won't be for long with offers from UAB, South Alabama, Troy, Texas Tech, Louisiana Tech and now Southern Miss.

East Side players aren't allowed to speak to the media according to team rules but its safe to assume that the Golden Eagles might the clubhouse leader given the families ties despite their winless season so far in 2012 under first-year head coach Ellis Johnson, the long time SEC defensive coordinator.

Southern Miss currently holds the commitment of Devon Henry, East Side's three-star safety and third highest ranked prospect on the team behind center Jarvis Flowers (Mississippi State) and tight end Michael Weisbecker, both four-star prospects according to most recruiting services. Ole Miss is viewed as the leader for Weisbecker's commitment.
