‣ NFL Week 1: Sep. 10, 2023 - Empower Field at Mile High, Denver, Colorado

Defense shines in season opener as Raiders defense leads Las Vegas to 14-9 win over Denver
Las Vegas found new ways to lose last season, going 4-9 in one score games last year to finish the season with just five wins.
As Russell Wilson was driving down the field with less than two minutes left, making plays with his legs and his arms, the Raiders 2023 season appeared to be getting off to a similar start. The Raiders defense, which had been stout all game, once again hunkered down and sacked Wilson on their own 15-yard line as time expired to preserve the 14-9 victory on Sunday.
Neither offense reached the end zone in the first three quarters with the lone touchdown coming on a scoop and score by Jerry Tillery off the Divine Deablo strip sack of Wilson. The veteran quarterback looked better in Sean Payton's offense, completing 83 percent of his passes for 263 yards along with 44 yards rushing but the Broncos offensive line was unable to keep him protected for much of the game. Wilson was sacked ten times, including three times by Maxx Crosby and rookie Byron Young recording two sacks.
Raiders first round pick Tyree Wilson recorded his first sack as he got the start in place of the veteran Chandler Jones, who missed the game due to personal reasons following a social media rant against Raiders' front office and coaching staff which ended with a wellness visit initiated by the Raiders.
Jimmy Garoppolo's debut in Vegas was relatively uneventful in terms of his play as he completed 21 of his 29 pass attempts and was protected well throughout the night but averaged just 5.5 yards per attempt, missing a couple deep shots to Davante Adams. In the highly anticipated matchup against All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II, Adams caught just one pass while covered by Surtain and finished the game with eight receptions for 58 yards, mostly on underneath stuff.
Running back Josh Jacobs led the game in rushing with 106 yards but Zamir White had the one offensive touchdown on a goal-line carry.

they're definitely defensive oriented which is what i want but will continue to tune
yeah, i lowered cpu sliders for pass blocking and in most of my testing that resulted in throwaways but with wilson, he tried to keep the play alive which resulted in more sacks. while i do want lower sack totals, i also am trying to offset the high number of pass attempts (40+ is most of my testing)

NFC Champs Open The Season With Statement
Even with those bullish on the Philadelphia Eagles heading into last season, Philadelphia surprised many last season with their dominance, quickly establishing themselves as one of the best teams in the NFL and having one of the more well rounded rosters in recent years.
Philadelphia's 2023 campaign got off to a good start as well as they dominated New England and Bill Belichick's defense with 423 yards of total offense in their 28-17 win on the road. Jalen Hurts threw for 293 yards and rushed for 47 yards with 3 total touchdowns. D'Andre Swift's Philly debut was a promising one, rushing for nearly five yards per carry along with a touchdown.
Defensively, first round pick Jalen Carter flashed with a sack on Mac Jones and the defensive unit held New England to just 92 yards rushing while Jones averaged just 7.5 yards per attempt.
