News and Notes

Saints add Brissett
New Orleans bolstered their QB depth chart last night by signing veteran Jacoby Brissett. The 31 year old Brissett sat all season in Washington in 2023. He threw for 2,608 yards with 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions for the Browns in 2022. Before that Brissett was with Miami, Indianapolis and New England.

The team's intention is for Brissett to back up Baker Mayfield, but there could be some competition if Mayfield struggles.

The team also signed four more UDFAs and released runningback Jodan Mims.

Other Signings
HB Ricardo Ferguson
FB Denario Beckham
LB Stanley Redmond
CB Doug Potter

Released
HB Jordan Mims

News and Notes
Mayfield looks to have a strong grip on the starting job
Baker Mayfield has been getting the vast majority of first team rep at QB thus far in camp. Mistakes have been few and far between and it looks like he has a good grasp of the offense.

Denario Beckham is bug
UDFA Denario Beckham, listed as a fullback, has been getting reps there primarily but has also taken a few snaps at TE. He is listed at 6'7" and 292 pounds. He is a bit sloppy as a lead blocker but when he gets on a defender he makes them pay.

Anthony Dorsey is good
Dorsey, the Saints first round pick, has shown off a good release and solid speed and change of direction. His routes have been improving. Expect to see him on the field a lot this season.

New look OL emerging
From left tackle to right tackle the primary lineup has been Penning, Wynn, McCoy, Peat, Ramczyk. The only real position battle we're seeing here is Saldiveri behind Peat at RG. Peat has the edge in run blocking so he will likely stay.

Foskey looks to be the replacement for Jordan
The Saints didn't make any big splashes to replace retired DE Cam Jordan and so far in camp it looks like 2nd year man Isaiah Foskey is the primary starter replacing him. Tanoh Kpassagnon is getting plenty of reps as is Payton Turner. Granderson has taken the bulk of the reps on the other end.

Anthony DeLong is going to be a nice addition
DeLong, the Saints second rounder, has been on the field a lot when the team uses three or more linebackers. His speed and coverage ability will allow the team to keep him on the field in situations where they previously would have had to bring in another defensive back. He does have some trouble getting off blocks in run defense from time to time but his athleticism allows him to recover.

Alontae Taylor appears to be holding off Michael Carter so far
CB Michael Taylor came over from the Jets when Derek Carr was traded to the Big Apple. Carter could definitely push Taylor for reps as the third CB but for now Taylor has a slight edge in number of reps.

There could be a new kicker and punter this year
The Saints brought in UDFA kicker Stephen Rowe and UDFA punter Bruce Clements during the offseason and so far they both look to have the edge over holdovers Blake Grupe and Lou Hedley. Rowe has been more consistent on kicks from either hash while Clements has shown more power than Hedley so far. The preseason games will certainly be important for these four players.
