CHARGERS NEWS
FORMER SEAHAWK BOBBY WAGNER IS THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE CHARGERS
CHARGERS FULLY COMMITTED TO WIN NOW, TRADE FOR WAGNER
"Probably one of the top three or four linebackers in the league."
That's how Adam Schefter described Bobby Wagner when he broke the news that the Chargers had landed him in a trade.
The Seahawks, as they have done in the past, decided to cut their losses with Wagner when they realized he would not be re-signed after this season. The two sides were "miles apart" on a new deal.
San Diego sent a 2021 second round pick, a 2020 seventh round pick and offensive tackle Joe Barksdale to Seattle in exchange for Wagner.
"We're extremely excited to get Wagner." Gus Bradley stated when the deal had been finalized. "Bobby will improve our defense not only with his talent but with his intelligence and winning attitude.
The Chargers are expected to start Wagner in the middle but will likely use him in a number of positions. Wagner, Perryman and Brown give the Chargers a very talented group at the linebacker position. Rookies Bedell and Boothe give them plenty of depth as well.
"Our window isn't closing but it's definitely getting smaller." GM Tom Telesco explained. "This move not only gives us a better shot this year but will hopefully be a move that helps us going forward.
Wagner is expected to ask for the top contract for an inside linebacker and the Chargers would have to make some changes to be able to do that.
Wagner did not respond to questions today but is reportedly very excited about the move and the future, according to his agent.
