KEENAN ALLEN'S 4TH QUARTER SCORE ALL BUT PUT THE GAME AWAY

CHARGERS OPEN SEASON WITH DIVISION WIN

Philip Rivers threw for 313 yards and a pair of scores and the Chargers defense held the explosive Chiefs offense in check to start the season with a key divisional win. Travis Benjamin put Los Angeles up 7-0 early in the second quarter with a 77 yard catch and run and the Chargers never trailed. Melvin Gordon was largely held in check but did pick up a few key first downs on the ground. Melvin Ingram led the defense with seven tackles and a pair of sacks, including one that took the Chiefs out of the redzone in the fourth quarter.

Los Angeles starts off the season 1-0 for the first time since 2015. They will travel to Buffalo to face the Bills next weekend. Buffalo is 1-0 following a 24-13 win over Baltimore.

JAHLEEL ADDAE LEFT THE WIN OVER KC WITH AN ELBOW INJURY

CHARGERS LOSE ADDAE, TYRELL WILLIAMS TO INJURIES

Safety Jahleel Addae and receiver Tyrell Williams both exited the Chiefs game with injuries Sunday afternoon. Both players have now been evaluated by the team medical staff.

Addae's injury is a dislocated elbow, he is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Adrian Phillips is expected to step into the starting role.

Tyrell Williams is said to have a right shoulder separation. He too is expected to be out 4-6 weeks. Mike Williams will move into the third receiver slot. Austin Ekeler is expected to see more snaps at receiver and the team has signed Travis Rudolph for depth at the position. If Rudolph picks up the playbook quickly enough he could be active next week. If not then Dylan Cantrell could come up from the practice squad.

Reserve center Cole Toner has been released to make room. Toner did not dress for the Chiefs game and Scott Quessenberry can play any of the interior line positions.
