Team News

Heaps Out Two Plus Months
Kansas' starting QB Jake Heaps was injured in the teams win over ECU on Saturday. The extent of Heaps injury is now known.

"Jake has two broken ribs." A team doctor explained. "He also has evidence of a pneumothorax, which is a collection of air or gas in the space around the lungs. It can be the result of a puncture caused by trauma such as a rib fracture."

Heaps is expected to miss anywhere between six and 12 weeks.

He could elect to sit out the rest of the season and apply for a medical redshirt.

Heaps, who transferred to Kansas from BYU, was 7 of 10 for 81 yards with 18 rushing yards and a touchdown before he exited the game. He threw for 2,746 yards and 22 touchdowns last season. He was expected to be one of the top QBs in the Big 12 this season.

Starting RB Brandon Bourbon suffered a concussion in the win. His status for this weekends game is still up in the air.

"We're obviously upset for Jake. "Coach Weis stated. "But we've got to keep playing. We'll need other guys to step up like they did in the last game. Also, we're going to evaluate Brandon later this week before we decide on his status.

Cummings and Cozart will probably split time while Heaps is out. Cozart has the speed advantage by quite a bit.
