Idaho tight end Michael LaGrone got behind the Cougar defense and raced to score one of his two touchdowns on the day

Pullman, WA -- In the Battle for the Palouse, Washington State rushed out to a quick lead and never let up on the way to a victory over their rival from nearby Moscow as the Cougars defeated the Vandals 30 to 15.

In the latest game between two schools that are located less than 10 miles apart, Washington State used their patented air raid attack to completely demolish the Vandal defense. The Cougar offense, led by star QB Connor Halliday, racked up almost 500 yards with the vast majority coming through the air. Halliday threw the ball a staggering 57 times and completed just over half of his passes for over 450 yards, with 3 different receivers eclipsing the 100 yard mark in the game. Little used running back Marcus Mason only carried the ball 9 times but managed to punch in two short TD runs, including a 3 yard score that gave his team a two possession lead with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game. In short, Wazzu was operating on all cylinders when they had control of the football, regardless of what Idaho tried to counter them with.

Concerning the Vandals offense, Redshirt freshman Chad Chalich accounted for the majority of Idaho's successes as well as pitfalls on offense as the team struggled to run the ball for the third straight week despite James Baker's best efforts. With the team quickly down two scores, Idaho OC Isaac Butcher had no choice but to entrust the game in his starter's hands, and Chalich kept them in the game. Late in the game, however, Chalich showed his youth by throwing interceptions on three straight drives and effectively sealing the game for Washington State. The Vandals continued to spread the ball around, with 7 different players recording a carry and 9 different players catching at least pass. Senior tight end Michael LaGrone lead the way and showed why he's so highly regarded today as he led the team in receiving yards and scored the team's only touchdowns.

Idaho running back Jerrell Brown left the game after he bruised his shoulder in the third quarter and did not return. Idaho HC Paul Petrino said the team did not have a definitive timeline on Brown's return but noted that "Jerrel's just dinged himself up here a little bit, so we expect that it shouldn't take more than a couple weeks for him to start feeling in top shape again. We want him to take his time so that this doesn't turn into something more serious." In the meantime, expect Kristoffer Olugbode and Andrew Williams to pick up some of Brown's workload.

Idaho returns home to host the Temple Owls next week whilst Washington State hosts a very good Stanford squad

fade reception picture looks sick
It was one of those plays that I just kinda ran because teams IRL run it and not because I thought it would work so when it did, I just had to make it the screenie for the game lol.

Michael LaGrone put the team on his back today, with the tight end reaching the end zone 3 times including the game-winner.

Moscow, ID -- Idaho found themselves in a familiar situation with unfamiliar results as they came roaring back against the Temple Owls to claim their second victory of the season.

The Vandals showed resilience and toughness in overcoming their mistakes and finding a way to win. Nobody embodied this better than Idaho redshirt freshman QB Chad Chalich, who seemed to turn a corner in this game. Chalich has been inconsistent and this week was no different, as the youngster threw for 5 TDs (including the game winner) but also accounted for 3 Idaho turnovers. The last of these was particulary ugly, with Temple star defensive back Anthony Robey baiting Chalich into a bad throw and seemingly sealing the game for Temple with his 4th interception of the season with only three and a half minutes left in the game and the Owls up by a point after Idaho true freshman kicker Austin Rehkow missed an extra point.

But the maligned Vandal defense did enough when it counted most and they held Temple to a field goal, giving Chalich and co. the ball again with a chance to take the lead with less than two minutes remaining. This proved to be enough time, with Chalich making his best throw in a Vandal uniform with a 59 yard strike to Roman Runner, who had managed to get behind Temple's defense. "Chad surprised a lot of us with the distance on that throw" said Idaho offensive coordinator Isaac Butcher. "He'd been struggling with deep throws in game situations thus far this year, including throwing an interception to end the first half. He didn't let that get to him though, and delivered when we needed it most." Idaho then struggled to move the ball in the redzone until Chalich found tight end Michael LaGrone on fourth down for his third touchdown of the day, which proved to be the game winner.

Idaho also finally had substantial success on the ground, with three different Vandals each eclipsing 50 yards rushing and the team averaged over 5 yards a carry. Kristoffer Olugbode filled in nicely for the injured Jerrel Brown, helping pace the running game and making a huge touchdown grab as well. Redshirt freshman Andrew Williams made his impact felt in limited opportunities as he converted a huge third down to ice the game after Idaho got the ball back following a defensive hold on fourth down.

Idaho stays in Moscow to host Derek Carr and the Fresno State Bulldogs next week while the Owls return to Philadelphia to host Teddy Bridgewater and the Louisville Cardinals
