Interested to see what you can develop Jeremiah into. Seems like there is a lot of raw material to work with but he's going to require special attention to turn him into a player. What position are you leaning towards for him?

I'm not entirely sure yet but probably multiple spots along the defensive line. He's too slow to play LB for me. Only thing is ATH recruits don't show blocking ratings so if those are good he could be an interior offensive linesman.

PALMERO LEAVES TWO SMU DEFENDERS GRASPING AT AIR ON A KEY 44 YARD GAIN
Cajun QB Jordan McAlary wasn’t cleared to play until Wednesday after leaving last week’s game.

“It’s not ideal to have a short week of practice for your QB.” Kenny Edenfield said before the game. “Jordan’s ready. He’s ready to go.”

McAlary has been hot and cold this season, throwing for 2,766 yards and 18 touchdowns but also 16 interceptions.

After each team’s first possession ended in a punt McAlary was picked off by safety Desmond Davis in the redzone late in the first quarter.

SMU turned their takeaway into points early in the first quarter when senior kicker Clinton McMillan hit a 22 yard field goal.

McAlary drove the Cajuns right back into scoring position but after a sack pushed them back Jeffrey Yatkowski hit the right upright on a 31 yard field goal attempt and the Cajuns were still without a score midway through the second quarter.

SMU’s ensuing possession ended with QB Kolney Cassel connecting with tight end Jeremiah Gaines for a 19 yard touchdown and a 10-0 lead with under two minutes left before halftime. Gaines made a great diving catch earlier in the drive.

“We talked about taking it easy, playing it safe before halftime.” Edenfield said at halftime. “Jordan pushed to go for something and Coach Davis got on board pretty quickly.”

Following a 51 yard kickoff return by Kelvin Greenwood McAlary completed passes to tight end James Moody for a gain of 16 and to Justin Carter for a gain of 22 to set up a 23 yard touchdown strike to D’Eriq Robinette. McAlary was sacked after the completion to Moody but kept his composure and led his team to a score.

The score used up very little time and after Cassel completed a 49 yard pass down the sideline to Shelton Davis the Mustangs were in scoring position themselves. Defensive back Matt Palmer picked off Cassel in the endzone to end the threat.

SMU’s first possession of the second half also ended in a turnover when Cassel coughed up the ball on a sack by Courtney Miggins and Brandon Wilson recovered it.

Two plays later Louisiana took their first lead of the game when McAlary stood in and took a big hit but delivered a four yard touchdown pass to Moody.

“Gutsy play by Jordan for sure.” Coach Porter Davis said after the game. “Gutsy.”

McMillan made it 14-13 with a 37 yard field goal and after a Louisiana turnover on downs McMillan put his team up 16-14 with an 18 yarder just before the end of the quarter.

Louisiana punted to end their next possession and McMillan extended the SMU lead with a 28 yard field goal, his fourth of the game.

McAlary and the offense took over with 5:13 left to play. After a pair of runs and a short McAlary pass to Mikey Porter Sr it was Seth Palmero who caught a short pass, spun to make a pair of SMU defenders miss and picked up 44 yards, setting up the Cajuns at the SMU 17.

Joeseph Hollins III carried twice for three yards then McAlary hit Justin Carter for the go-ahead score with 2:57 left to play. McAlary found Palmero for the two point conversion and a 22-19 lead.

On third and five Wilson sniffed out an SMU screen pass and dropped the back for a loss of four yards, setting up a fourth and nine. Despite trailing by three and having under two minutes left to play SMU elected to punt and Louisiana ran out the clock.

“I don’t know. It wasn’t us and we didn’t analyze the call from that side. You’d have to ask those guys.” Porter Davis replied when asked about the SMU coaching staff’s decision to punt late.

McAlary has broken the school record for passing yards in a season, he currently has 3,036.

FRESHMAN WR JACOBY BROWNE GETS OVER THE TOP FOR A 54 YARD SCORE
A week after struggling and squeaking past SMU the Cajuns imposed their will on the road in a 52-10 win over Houston.

Following a seemingly easy drive into the Cajuns red zone on their first possession Houston had to settle for a field goal when the Louisiana defense buckled down inside the five yard line. Houston wound not score again until Greg Ward Jr ran in for a five yard touchdown to make the score 45-10 Louisiana late in the fourth quarter.

Houston’s remaining first half possessions ended as follows: interception, lost fumble, punt, punt, punt, end of half. Meanwhile Louisiana scored three touchdowns and a field goal in the first half. It could have been more if not for an incomplete pass by D’Eriq Robinette on a fake field goal and an interception by Jordan McAlary with under a minute to play in the first half.

The Cajuns first half scores came on a rare run by McAlary, a two yard run by Robinette and a 59 yard McAlary pass to Darren Guerrero who avoided a diving defender to catch a post and then outran the rest of the Houston defense for the score. Jeffrey Yatkowski connected on a 54 yard field goal. Unfortunately, no KICKER PICTURE™ was available.

“A twenty one point lead ain’t ****, especially with guys like Ward and (senior RB Joseph) Glen and (senior WR Rashaun) McClain over there.” Porter Davis said as the team went into the locker room. The expletive apparently made it onto television and created a bit of a stir on social media.

Louisiana didn’t take the lead for granted, piling on another 21 points for a 45-3 lead before Ward’s rushing touchdown with just over three minutes left to play.

Louisiana fullback Raheem Beach scored on a six yard run a couple minutes later, much to the chagrin of some.

“We played poorly last week so this was an important game for us. We had backups in and Raheem doesn’t get a lot of touches. I told Kenny to tell him not to score but I think he’s a little scared of him. Good reason.”

McAlary threw for 313 yards with three scores and an interception on 22 of 31 passing. Robinette ran for 53 and a pair of scores on six rushes and Joeseph Hollins III added 41 yards on seven carries. Guerrero led the team with 87 yards on three receptions including the 59 yard score.

Louisiana as a team rolled up 464 yards of offense with 20 first downs. Houston managed 213 yards, with over 100 of that coming on their final two possessions against a relaxed defense sprinkled with reserves. Greg Ward completed 20 of 25 passes for 195 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. He ran for -2 yards on 15 attempts with sacks figured in and scored the late rushing touchdown. Ward, one of the more mobile QBs in the nation, was sacked a total of eight times.

“They had their tight end playing guard half the time.” Davis said. “There’d have been hell to pay if we didn’t get the QB.”

With his three sack performance Miggins has tied the school record for sacks in a season, tying Dom Tovell who did it in 2015.

McAlary now has 3,349 passing yards on the season, extending his school record and leading the nation. He's thrown 24 touchdown passes. The school record is 29.
