Michigan, Hoke part ways
Michigan finishes season with 4-8 record, unranked
By Karl Belcher | Jan 1, 2018, 12:15pm EST

Perhaps former Michigan coach Brady Hoke's downfall was an 11-2 season in his first year back in 2011, setting hopes unrealistically high from the start.

Inconsistent has been the best way to describe Hoke's tenure in Ann Arbor. He followed up the 11-2 inaugural campaign with a still solid 8-5 in 2012 before stumbling in 2013.

2014 brought another 8-5 season with a bowl win and likely bought Hoke a few more seasons.

In 2015 the Wolverines finished 10-3 and ranked 10th, giving hope for a resurgence.

That resurgence never came as 2016 was another down year.

2017 was a 4-8 disaster and as a result the school and Hoke have "mutually agreed to part ways".

Georgia elects to keep Richt around
Richt rumored to be on the outs after disappointing 6-7 season
By Karl Belcher | Jan 2, 2018, 2:11pm EST

Mark Richt has been the head coach at Georgia since the 2001 season. Despite a poor 6-7 season in 2017 he will be sticking around.

2013 marked 13 straight season with a bowl appearance for Richt and the Bulldogs added an SEC Championship that season.

2014 and 2015 were down seasons for Richt and Georgia with the team finishing unranked both years.

2016 saw a bit of a recovery as the team finished the season 8-5 and ranked #20 with a loss to Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

After finishing the 2017 season with a 6-6 record many felt Richt needed a win in their bowl game against Rutgers. Georgia lost that game and according to the media Richt was gone.

"There was for sure a lot of speculation and rumors." ESPN's Todd Blackledge tweeted. "But ultimately Richt is still a top coach and recruiter and the athletic department and boosters feel like he is still the best man for the job."

Richt has over 150 wins to his credit at Georgia.

Louisiana head coach Porter Davis leaving Lafayette
Davis cites "witch hunt" and "lack of faith" by university
By Karl Belcher | Jan 2, 2018, 4:47pm EST

The coach responsible for the most successful three year span in the history of Louisiana Ragin' Cajun football is leaving the university following what he called a "witch hunt" surrounding his relationship with former ULL student and athletic department intern Maya Collins.

The university's investigation found that the two began their relationship after Collins had graduated and that she never worked directly under Davis during her internship.

Davis led the team to three straight top ten seasons with 12 wins in 2015, 13 wins in 2016 and 12 again in 2017.

Louisiana won conference championships in each of Davis' three years and they appeared in major bowl games at the end of each season.

Davis had the team near the top of the defensive ranking each season.

He won coach of the year twice.

Davis stated that he felt the university mishandled the situation and could have avoided the whole mess had they simply spoken to him and Collins before allowing the situation to come to a boil.

"I struggled with this decision mightily." Davis said in a tweet a few hours ago. "I'm not happy that this is the way it had to go, but ultimately the university and their actions gave me no choice. I deeply regret leaving the players, coaches and other members of the football staff."

Davis said he has not thought about his future and that this matter and preparations for the Orange Bowl had consumed the bulk of his time for the past several weeks.

Davis was very professional in his statement on Twitter.

Collins was a bit less so.

According to Kirk Herbstreit and Todd Blackledge several schools have already been in contact with Davis.

ULL has not commented on the situation as of this time.
