Davis adds pair of recruits for Arkansas on NSD
By Darren Carter-Jones

New Arkansas head coach Porter Davis had a mostly complete recruiting class coming in for 2018 and amazingly was able to not only retain all of the players that Tommy Tuberville and his staff had landed but also added a pair of linesmen he really wanted on national signing day.

Antoine Montgomery is a 6'6" nearly 300 pound guard that is polished as both a run and pass blocker. He figures to be in the mix for a starting guard position this season. He was ranked as the #29 guard in the nation with a 3 star grade. He hails from Vivian, Louisiana.

Anthony Freedman is a 6'5" offensive tackle from Duncanville, Texas. He is a great pass blocker who is no slouch as a run blocker as well. Davis and his staff hope that Freedman will take over at LT in 2019 after Leon Paulsen moves on. He will likely be the backup at both tackle spots for 2018.

Arkansas' recruiting class was ranked as the 43rd best in the nation.

"We're not worried about their rankings." Davis said. "We've brought in a lot of guys that we like. Guys that we had looked at before and guys we think will help turn this program around. We're not going to get bogged down in someone else's rankings of the guys we liked."

Arkansas welcomes trio of transfers
By Darren Carter-Jones
Image
Arkansas head coach Porter Davis will have a couple familiar faces suiting up for the Razorbacks.

Former Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns D'Eriq Robinette and Joey Christodoulou have officially transferred to Arkansas.

Robinette split time at several positions for Louisiana in 2017 and tallied 234 passing yards and four touchdowns, he led the Cajuns with 458 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns and he added 211 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Robinette was originally recruited by Davis as a QB but he redshirted in 2016 and worked with the receivers that whole season before moving back to QB in 2017. He split time with Jordan McAlary last season in Louisiana. Robinette is expected to apply for an exemption to play immediately and would battle with Cornelius Rivas III, Jaylon Spencer and Ryan Anderson for the starting QB job.

Joey Christodoulou was Louisiana's punter and backup kicker in 2017, he connected on his lone field goal attempt and punted 22 times for an average of 39.5 yards per punt with three punts inside the 20 and three touchbacks. He too is expected to try to play right away and should be in the mix as both a kicker and punter. The team has freshman Charlie Payne listed as a punter and walk-on Uche Okocha listed at kicker.

Joining them will be runningback Edwin Scott who comes over from Oklahoma. He will sit out 2018 and hope to be a big part of the RB rotation in 2019. Scott redshirted in 2017. He is listed at 5'8" and 177 pounds and hails from Amarillo, Texas. He is more of a receiver than a between the tackles runner and could see time at RB and slot receiver when he becomes eligible.

2018 Arkansas Football Schedule and Analysis
By DeAndrew Davis

Arkansas football has finalized and released their 2018 schedule. Along with their SEC games they will face Colorado State, North Texas, Tulsa, and Navy.
Image @ Image
Arkansas @ Colorado State
August 25th, 2018 3:30PM
Sonny Lubick Field at Colorado State Stadium - Fort Collins, Colorado
Last Three Meetings: 9/29/90 Ark 31-20, 9/15/79 Ark 36-3, 10/26/74 Ark 43-9
Colorado State 2017: 5-7(2-7 MWC)
Head Coach: Jim McElwain 28-45 @ CSU, 28-45 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
FS Zach Thomas (84)
DE Kyle Nobles (82)
CB Joshua McDougal (81)
Outlook: Arkansas looks to have the advantage on paper but they are on the road and it's their first game with a new coaching staff. I think we get the win but it could be ugly.

Image @ Image
North Texas @ Arkansas
September 1st, 2018 12:00PM
Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium - Fayetteville, Arkansas
Last Three Meetings: 9/29/07 Ark 66-7, 9/20/03 Ark 31-7, 10/28/72 Ark 42-16
North Texas 2017: 2-10(1-7 CUSA)
Head Coach: Charlie Taafe 0-0 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
TE Jared Lindsey (85)
QB Brandon Bowling (84)
HB Robert Whitaker (82)
Outlook: Similar to the Colorado State game this is very winnable on paper. Arkansas should be a more talented team and being the home opener should have them ready to play. Again a possibly ugly win for the Razorbacks.

Image @ Image
Tulsa @ Arkansas
September 8th, 2018 10:00PM
Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium - Fayetteville, Arkansas
Last Three Meetings: 11/3/12 Ark 19-15, 11/1/08 Ark 30-23, 9/6/03 Ark 45-13
Tulsa 2017: 4-8(3-5 American)
Head Coach: Noel Mazzone 4-8 @ Tulsa, 6-18 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
HB Nick Lawson (89)
FS Steve Bolden (85)
WR Ed Foster (82)
Outlook: Tulsa and Arkansas actually look to be pretty evenly matched. This is a game I could see going either way.

Image @ Image
Arkansas @ Vanderbilt
September 15th, 2018 6:00PM
Vanderbilt Stadium - Nashville, Tennessee
Last Three Meetings: 9/13/14 Vandy 35-24, 10/29/11 Ark 31-28, 10/30/10 Ark 49-14
Vanderbilt 2017: 4-8(2-7 SEC)
Head Coach: Chris Ash 6-18 @ Vanderbilt, 6-18 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
HB Leroy Stephens (87)
FS Eric Webb (82)
LB Jeremy Joseph (77)
Outlook: Arkansas looks to be more talented but it's their conference opener and it's on the road at night so this is another one I could see going either way for the Razorbacks. These toss up games will be ones they really need to win to have a successful season and get into a bowl. Fun matchup between Davis and former assistant Ash.

Arkansas vs Texas A&M
September 22nd, 2018 12:30PM
AT&T Stadium - Arlington, Texas
Last Three Meetings: 9/23/17 TAMU 24-7, 9/24/16 Ark 38-34, 9/26/15 TAMU 44-35
Texas A&M 2017: 8-5(6-3 SEC, L Chick-fil-a bowl to Notre Dame 24-31)
Head Coach: Kevin Sumlin 58-20 @ TAMU, 93-37 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
QB Kenny Goddard (91)
CB Nathan Gutierrez (90)
WR Jimmie Bush (84)
Outlook: Texas A&M is a more talented team, maybe not by a ton but they are and they've had the advantage as of late.

Image @ Image
South Carolina @ Arkansas
October 6th, 2018 4:30PM
Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium - Fayetteville, Arkansas
Last Three Meetings: 12/12/15 SCAR 27-24, 10/11/14 SCAR 45-21, 11/10/12 SCAR 38-20
South Carolina 2017: 7-6(4-5 SEC, W Music City Bowl over Virginia 56-31)
Head Coach: Mark Hudspeth 34-19 @ SCAR, 128-51 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
DE Max Stewart (94)
CB Curtis Bowen (93)
WR Paul Hughes (92)
Outlook: South Carolina has a really good squad. Arkansas being the home team gives them a shot but I still think SC takes this one.

Image @ Image
Arkansas @ Alabama
October 13th, 2018 3:30PM
Bryant-Denny Stadium - Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Last Three Meetings: 10/14/17 Bama 49-27, 10/15/16 Bama 62-42, 10/17/15 Bama 37-13
Alabama 2017: 11-3(7-3 SEC, L SEC Championship to Tennessee 44-49, W Outback Bowl over Iowa 44-20)
Head Coach: Nick Saban 120-28 @ Alabama, 206-70 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
LB Andre Pruitt (97)
QB Andrew Strickland (96)
WR Chris Mitchell (95)
Outlook: You know.

Image @ Image
Ole Miss @ Arkansas
October 20th, 2018 12:30PM
Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium - Fayetteville, Arkansas
Last Three Meetings: 11/4/17 Ark 44-41 OT, 10/22/16 Miss 41-30, 11/7/15 Ark 16-13
Ole Miss 2017: 7-6(4-5 SEC, W Liberty Bowl 48-14 over Rice)
Head Coach: Hugh Freeze 52-28 @ Ole Miss, 82-35 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
DE Tim Barnett (92)
LB Shane Motley (88)
TE James Rich (87)
Outlook: Much like the SC game I think Ole Miss is the better team but being in Arkansas helps. I'm going to call this one an Arkansas win!

Image @ Image
Arkansas @ Auburn
October 27th, 2018 4:30PM
Jordan-Hare Stadium - Auburn, Alabama
Last Three Meetings: 10/28/17 Aub 49-28, 10/29/16 Ark 31-28, 10/31/15 Ark 45-21
Auburn 2017: 7-6(3-6 SEC, W Little Caesars Bowl 21-18 over Eastern Michigan)
Head Coach: Hank Hughes 7-6 @ Auburn, 7-6 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
QB John Ridgeway (93)
CB Rashaad Ervin (93)
LB Steven King (91)
Outlook: Auburn on the road may be our toughest game besides Alabama. Loss.

Image @ Image
Arkansas @ Navy
November 3rd, 2018 10:00PM
Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium - Annapolis, Maryland
Two Meetings All-Time: 9/29/84 Ark 33-10, 9/18/82 Ark 29-17
Navy 2017: 8-5(5-3 American, W Independence Bowl over ECU 27-20)
Head Coach: Ken Nuimatalolo 78-53 @ Navy, 78-53 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
LB Shawn Brown (88)
FS Adam Callahan (88)
QB Nate Jones (82)
Outlook: This is a total wildcard game. This game was one that Porter Davis swapped out for an FCS game when he was hired. He has said before he loves to play the service academies so no surprise that he pursued this game. I'm going to call this one a toss up as well.

Image @ Image
Mississippi State @ Arkansas
November 10th, 2018 12:30PM
Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium - Fayetteville, Arkansas
Last Three Meetings: 11/18/17 Ark 41-31, 11/12/16 MST 24-17, 11/21/15 Ark 35-3
Mississippi State 2017: 7-6(3-6 SEC, W Military Bowl over Ohio 59-24)
Head Coach: Dan Mullen 67-49 @ MSU, 67-49 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
CB Zach Massey (89)
QB Leon Goode (89)
WR Zach Harrison (89)
Outlook: The sixth game of a six week run for Arkansas with no weeks off. Tough late in the season in the middle of conference play. Mississippi State probably has a bit more talent and even though it's in Arkansas I think we lose this one.

Image @ Image
Arkansas @ LSU
November 24th, 2018 3:30PM
Tiger Stadium - Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Last Three Meetings: 11/25/17 LSU 44-0, 11/26/16 LSU 41-35, 11/28/15 Ark 28-13
LSU 2017:9-4(7-2 SEC, L Capital One Bowl to Michigan State 28-17)
Head Coach: Matt Limegrover 9-4 @ LSU, 19-7 Career
Key Players (PFF Grade)
HB Warren Jones (98)
WR Micheal Hall (95)
CB Tim Jones (90)
Outlook: Season finale at home. Bowl bid possibly on the line. Rivalry game. Just not enough. Limegrover and LSU get the better of Arkansas and Davis in the first of what will hopefully be a long rivalry for these two.

Season Outlook: I'm hoping for six wins and an invite to a decent bowl. Anything more will be a great season and even if we only win four games but play in close losses that's still a good season given the roster we have to work with right now.

2018 SEC Conference Preview Series - Conference Overview
By Darren Carter-Jones
Image
ALABAMA QB ANDREW STRICKLAND HOPES TO LEAD THE TIDE TO AN SEC TITLE AND MORE IN 2018
Alabama is gunning for an SEC title in 2018 after a shocking 49-44 loss to Tennessee in the 2017 SEC Championship game. With QB Cooper Bateman having moved on the pressure is on Junior QB Andrew Strickland, who has reportedly won the job over fifth year senior Richard Lyles, and head coach Nick Saban to deliver in 2018.

2018 Quarterback Rankings
(based on expected starters)

John Ridgeway, Auburn – Ridgeway is the most experienced QB in the SEC for 2018, a starter in 2017 and most of 2016. He’ll need to cut back on turnovers if he’s going to lead Auburn to a title.
2017 Stats: 209/384 2626Yds 26TD 14Int, 702RYds 4TD

Reggie Clarke, Kentucky – Clarke threw for over 3000 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2017 and also added 530 yards and six touchdowns rushing for the Wildcats. A dangerous dual-threat Clarke is the SEC’s preseason all-conference representative.
2017 Stats: 235/435 3022Yds 29TD 11Int, 530RYds 6TD

Leon Goode, Mississippi State - Goode struggled with turnovers and a low completion percentage in 2017 but showed flashes of being one of the more accurate passers in the nation at times. He will need to get comfortable with his receivers and be more careful with the ball to lead the Bulldogs in 2018.
2017 Stats: 148/282 1982Yds 17TD 11Int

Andrew Strickland, Alabama – Despite not taking a snap in 2017 Strickland has gotten very high praise and had nearly won the starting job last season before a spring injury. He’ll need to put it all together on the field for the Tide in 2018.
2017 Stats: N/A

Kenny Goddard, Texas A&M – Goddard completed just over 50% of his passes and threw 9 touchdowns to 9 interceptions as a part-time starter in 2017. He showed off a cannon arm at times and with a year under his belt he could be due for a big season.
2017 Stats: 105/205 1342Yds 9TD 9Int, 3 Rush TD

Adam Moore, Georgia – Moore is a bit of a wildcard. The senior has played sparingly in the past three seasons and has been all over the lace. He’s probably the most dangerous running QB in the SEC but has struggled throwing. Mark Richt is hoping a full offseason with starter reps will have him ready to lead.
2017 Stats: 18/31 174Yds 0TD 5 Int, 73RYds

Anthony Boyd, Florida – Boyd played in two games in 2017 and played well, throwing seven touchdowns to just two interceptions. He has displayed good accuracy but doesn’t have the strongest arm.
2017 Stats: 35/63 448Yds 7TD 2Int

Phillip Carey, Missouri – Carey started one game in 2017 and looked quite average. He does not have a great arm but he is a bit of a threat as a runner. Missouri is likely to lean on the running game.
2017 Stats: 14/27 120Yds 2TD 2Int, 22Car 96RYds 1TD

Bradley Cooks, Tennessee – Cooks played sparingly in 2017, completing four of ten pass attempts for 37 yards. He added 40 yards rushing on nine attempts. He has average arm strength and accuracy.
2017 Stats: 4/10 37Yds, 40RYds

Jeremy Childs, Vanderbilt – Childs played some in 2016 and 2017. For his career he’s completed 23 of 55 attempts for 308 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions. He struggles with accuracy and does not have a lively arm.
2017 Stats: 21/49 262Yds 4TD 4Int

Cornelius Rivas III/D’Eriq Robinette/Jaylon Spencer, Arkansas – Arkansas head coach Porter Davis came to a somewhat bare cupboard at QB and is still waiting to find out if Louisiana transfer D’Eriq Robinette will gain immediate eligibility or not. Rivas III has not seen the field for Arkansas as he was injured in 2017. Jaylon Spencer started eight games in 2017 but completed just 39% of his pass attempts. The starts is anyone’s guess at this point but they do have some experience with Spencer and Robinette.
Rivas III 2017 Stats: N/A
Robinette 2017 Stats(Louisiana): 26/38 234Yds 4TD 3Int, 458RYds 11TD, 19Rec 211Yds 5TD
Spencer 2017 Stats: 92/235 1213Yds 6TD 10Int

James Outlaw, Ole Miss – Redshirt Senior Outlaw hasn’t played a single down for Ole Miss.
2017 Stats: N/A

Robert Simmons, South Carolina – Redshirt Junior Simmons has not seen the field for South Carolina.
2017 Stats: N/A

Will Lowe, LSU – Redshirt senior Lowe has yet to play in Baton Rouge.
2017 Stats: N/A

Returning 2017 Conference Stat Leaders
Passing Yards – 3022 – R. Clarke, Kentucky
Passing TDs – 29 - R. Clarke, Kentucky
Rushing Yards – 1757 - D. Moore, Missouri
Rushing TDs – 19 - D. Moore, Missouri
Receptions – 56 - C. Boyd, Tennessee
Receiving Yards – 836 - C. Boyd, Tennessee
Receiving TDs – 13 - C. Boyd, Tennessee
Tackles – 43 - K. Temple, Texas A&M
Sacks – 7 - N. Caldwell, Ole Miss
Interceptions – 4 - M. White, Kentucky and C. Bowen, South Carolina

2018 New Coaches
Arkansas' Porter Davis is the only new coach in the conference. He comes over from Louisiana where he went 37-4 in three seasons. Davis is 0-3 in bowl games, all against P5 teams. He was Louisiana's DC in 2013 and held the same position at Eastern Michigan in 2012.
