BROOKS HAACK RUNS FOR A LATE TOUCHDOWN TO HELP SECURE THE WIN FOR THE CAJUNS
Louisiana overcame a disastrous seven turnover performance by their offense and secured a 31-16 win over Tulsa to improve to 8-0 on the season.

"Was it how we want to play? Absolutely not. Was it ugly? Yes. Are we going to have a long film session this week? For sure. It sucked. That's not how you win games but we banded together as a team, picked each other up and got the win." Cajuns head coach Porter Davis said after the win.

"No. Not even for a second. Brooks is our quarterback and he did what he needed to and ultimately helped the team win this ballgame." Davis replied when asked if he had considered benching Haack, who turned the ball over a total of six times in the game.

Despite the turnover Louisiana managed 419 yards of total offense and gave up 266 to Tulsa. Tulsa turned the ball over twice in the game, both interceptions.

Haack finished with 254 yards passing and a touchdown on 22 of 32 passing and ran for a team high 112 yards and a score on 17 attempts. James Moody led the team with 87 yards on six receptions.

The team started out pass heavy but leaned on the run in the second half to finish up even with 32 runs and 32 passes for the day.

"We wanted to lean into the passing game a bit more this week." Davis explained. "Don't forget we only had two days to prep for this game. Assinine schedule."

A little behind the scenes tidbit, I almost called it interesting but that's probably a stretch.
In doing a preview for the Houston game I actually had to start the game to figure out a couple things.

1. Where do they play in the game?
Robertson Stadium is the answer despite it being demolished shortly after the 2012 season. In real life while TDECU Stadium was under construction during the 2013 season, the Cougars played five of their seven home games at Reliant Stadium (now known as NRG Stadium). The other two home games in 2013 were played at BBVA Compass Stadium.

2. Who was starting in the front 7?
Houston has one of those depth charts where all kinds of backups are guys playing out of position. RE1 Cameron Malveaux is injured and Xavier Phillips is a MLB listed at RE2 and MLB2. They play a 3-4 so I wasn't sure if Phillips would be at MLB2 or RE in their base 3-4. He is RE.

BRANDON WILSON SEALS THE WIN WITH AN INTERCEPTION IN THE ENDZONE WITH UNDER TWO MINUTES TO PLAY
In what was one of Louisiana's closest games of the season it took a late interception by safety Brandon Wilson to secure a win over Houston.

Houston quarterback Greg Ward proved troublesome for the Cajuns defense as the fourth year junior threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns on 27 of 38 passing.

“He's a great QB. One of the best we've faced and we threw a lot oat him and he made adjustments.” Louisiana defensive coordinator Reggie Johnson said after the win. “We had some trouble getting pressure on him at times and luckily Brandon made that play for us late.”

Ward started off the game by tossing a 22 yard touchdown pass to receiver Raheem Falkins to cap the Cougars first drive.

Minutes later the Cajuns answered when Brooks Haack ran for a 30 yard score on a read option keep. After a Houston punt Haack found the endzone again, this time on a five yard run. Haack also ran in the two point conversion to give Louisiana a 14-7 lead.

Early in the second quarter after another Houston drive stalled Haack connected with fullback Thomas Singleton in the back of the endzone. Singleton looked the part of a seasoned wide receiver when he secured the pass near the endline and ensured both feet were in bounds.

Houston would add a 37 yard field goal by Cummings before halftime to make it 21-10 Cajuns at the break.

A pair of Louisiana turnovers and a pair of Ward touchdown passes put Houston on top 24-21 with six and a half minutes left to play. Haack and the Cajuns offense went to work and put together a scoring drive that runningback Jalen Nixon capped with a four yard touchdown run with 3:21 left on the clock.

Trailing 28-24 late Greg Ward went back to picking apart the Louisiana pass defense and got his team on the doorstep before Wilson made the interception in the endzone. The play was reviewed to make sure Wilson's feet were in bounds when he caught the ball but it was clearly a clean play.

“Big time players make big time plays and we've known Brandon to be just that for a while now.” Head coach Porter Davis said following the win.

Total offensive numbers were very close with Houston gaining 394 to Louisiana's 405. How the team's got to those numbers was quite different with Louisiana rushing for 284 and passing for 121 while Houston threw for 285 and ran for 109.

Cajuns senior defensive end Darrien Batiste strained a pectoral muscle during the game and is expected to miss a few weeks. Batiste has recorded 23 tackles, including 10 for loss and four sacks.

Louisiana hosts SMU (0-8/0-5) next Saturday.
