Alabama Lands Top Rated Recruiting Class
Tide signs five five stars, six four stars
By Brent Greene | Feb 3, 2016, 7:17pm EST

"We're always in the process of reloading." Alabama head coach Nick Saban stated earlier today after his recruiting class was finalized. "We're never interested in rebuilding so we strive for getting the best players in the nation to come play for Alabama."

Alabama capped their class by getting #1 cornerback Walter Murphy to flip from Florida just before the deadline. Murphy is the 20th best prospect in the nation according to Rivals.com and despite being a Florida native was lured to Tuscaloosa.

TCU surprisingly came away with the second best rated class, led by #19 overall and #5 WR Tariq Johnson, who picked them over Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Oklahoma, Ohio State and Michigan rounded out the top five. Ohio State scored a big win over their rivals when #6 overall athlete Jeff Pryor flipped to them from Michigan.

The biggest surprise was Louisiana's sixth ranked class, bolstered by the schools first ever five star recruits in #1 QB and #3 overall Jordan McAlary and #5 RB and #36 overall Joeseph Hollins III.

Cajuns Add Two On National Signing Day, Secure Sixth Best Class
By Jeff Sanderson

PORTER DAVIS HAS REASON TO REJOICE AFTER LANDING THE #6 RECRUITING CLASS
Louisiana head coach Porter Davis was very aggressive in building his recruiting class, choosing to visit many players himself when other schools sent assistant coaches or scouts. Davis may be a bit weary from so many days on the road but the fact that it led to the Cajuns landing the sixth best class in the nation according to Rivals.com has probably re-energized him thoroughly.

Having already secured 19 commitments before National Signing Day the school was looking to lock up three final players. They got two of the three but missed out on safety Tremayne Beach, who elected to head to Louisiana Tech despite his cousin Ryheem Beach committing to Lafayette earlier on.

Tight end P.J. McIntyre bounced back and forth between Rice and Louisiana for the past few month but ultimately chose to come to Lafayette. The 6'3” 243 pound Lockhart, Texas native is expected to come in and compete with Nick Byrne and fellow recruit Bryan Benson III for snaps behind James Moody.

Safety Matt Palmer looked to be headed to Stanford for the past couple months but stated that he was waiting until signing day to make such a huge decision. Palmer chose Louisville after a second meeting with Coach Davis.

“Coach Davis really went above and beyond by coming out again. That showed me a lot. He always answered my questions honestly and completely and never sugar coated anything. He showed me a lot of respect in the whole process.” Palmer explained after announcing his choice.

Palmer should get a shot to see the field as the Cajuns attempt to replace their entire starting secondary going into 2016.

We've listed the entire class below. With Louisiana moving into a bigger, more competitive conference going forward these players should be a great foundation for continued success and possibly making the Cajuns an up and coming team on the national scene.

“We've had great success on the field these past few years.” Head coach Porter Davis said after the class was finalized. “It was very very important to us that this be a great class for us. We don't want to be a flash in the pan and regress so this is a big step toward continuing that great success.”

Louisiana Finalizes and Releases Schedule
By Andrew Bernardi
Image
Following a whirlwind few weeks in which they announced a change of conference and an outstanding recruiting class Louisiana has finalized and released their schedule.

They'll start off by hosting Purdue, a Big Ten opponent, on August 27th under the lights at 7PM.

After that they're off to SEC country to face Mississippi State.

The Battle on the Bayou follows that in Monroe. The rivalry was a priority for both schools after the Cajuns conference change was announced and it should carry on for several seasons.

Louisiana will have a week off before diving into their nine game American Conference schedule with road games at Connecticut, Tulane and Central Florida.

On October 15th they come back home for a pair of games against Temple and Tulsa.

October 29th has them back on the road at Houston then it's back home against Southern Methodist on November 5th.

After a week off they'll host East Carolina on November 19th.

The Cajuns wrap up their regular season with an afternoon game at Navy on November 26th.

There is a lot of buzz in Lafayette as the program gets ready to embark on a new era in a new conference with a bright outlook after landing their historic recruiting class.

Louisiana Spring Practice Report - Day One
By Kelly-Anne Russo

LINESMEN GET IN WORK DURING THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING PRACTICE
There's not too much to report after just one day of spring practice for the Cajuns but I have included a few notes below, some far more significant than others.

Several players are wearing new numbers.

Quarterback Matt Hayden has changed from #17 to #12.

Runningback Donatello Franz III is now wearing #26 instead of #36 from last season.

Top RB Kyle Hicks was wearing knee high socks, he work low cut socks last season.

Jalen Nixon, who played QB, RB and WR last season has bulked up and was only with the RB group during position work. He did take a few snaps at QB during 7 on 7 drills.

WR Scott Austin was wearing #5 as opposed to #25.

Other nubmer changes: WR Seth Palmero #81 to #7, OT Jeremy Sparks #63 to #73, LB Tre'Maine Lightfoot #58 to #4, LB George Williams #54 to #9, S Reginald McFadden #35 to #27 and K Jeffrey Yatkowski is now wearing #3 instead of #31.

Louisiana Spring Practice Report - Day Three
By Kelly-Anne Russo

PLAYERS RUN DRILLS ON THE THIRD DAY OF LOUISIANA'S SPRING PRACTICE SESSION
A bit more substance here on day three of spring practice as the team moves forward with more in depth drills and runs some 11 on 11.

Defensive end Courtney Miggins has slimmed down slightly and appears to be quicker and more explosive.

Fullback Thomas Singleton has been wearing a visor, he has not in the past. Looks intimidating.

Freshman D'Eriq Robinette, listed as a QB during recruiting, has been working at WR exclusively.

Several players seem to be working at different spots along the offensive line, most notably Derek Edinburgh Jr has been at left tackle, he was the starting right tackle in 2015.

Clifton Schmidt who was listed as a center last season appears to have moved to guard.

Grant Horst has apparently been moved from guard to tackle.

Freshman Ja'Marcus Franklin has been working at defensive tackle, Rivals.com had him listed as a defensive end.

Tre'Maine Lightfoot has been working at inside linebacker, he was primarily outside previously.

Freshman Andre Batiste, who was listed as a cornerback during recruiting, has been working at free safety almost exclusively.

Louisiana Staff Confirms Six Players Have Left the Program
By Kelly-Anne Russo

I spoke to Louisiana head coach Porter Davis following today's spring practice and was able to confirm that the following players have left the program for various reasons.

Quarterback Rashad Brooks was upset by the signing of Jordan McAlary and D'Eriq Robinette and after speaking with the coaching staff has chosen to transfer to DIII Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas, closer to his hometown of Leon Valley, Texas.

Fullback Xavier Archer Jr decided to transfer shortly after the end of last season and has not enrolled elsewhere as far as Davis is aware.

Defensive tackle Anthony Jones, who walked on last season, accepted a scholarship to Division III Occidental in his home state of California.

Cornerback Kyle Coleman was dismissed from the program. Davis did not elaborate.

Receiver Travaris Jones decided not to pursue football any longer.

Receiver Trai Hart was extremely homesick and has returned home to Hawaii where he hopes to get involved in coaching at the high school level while pursuing a sports management degree.

Davis added that he and the rest of the coaching staff wishes all of them the best and that he would help them in any way possibly going forward.
