SR WR SCOTT AUSTIN SCORES ON AN 83 YARD RECEPTION
Yet again Louisiana found themselves on the good end of a blowout as they stomped UMass by a final score of 49-7.

"Just the usual cliches." Coach Porter Davis said after the game. "Guys giving 110%, being in the right place at the right time, a total team effort, all three phases. Pick whichever one you want, they all apply."

Davis' assessment is quite accurate, Louisiana out-gained UMass 498-113 and held them to just five first downs while rolling up 18 themselves. The Cajuns' time of possession was nearly three quarters of the game.

Following a long possession quarterback Brooks Haack connected with tight end Larry Pettis on an eight yard pass to start off scoring in the first quarter.

Early on in the second quarter senior wide receiver Scott Austin caught a three yard pass from Haack on a drag route, slipped through a tackle and went 83 yards for a score.

That score came three plays after defensive end Dominique Tovell sacked UMass QB Mike Wegzyn on a fourth and goal play.

Haack connected with tight end Nick Byrne for a 19 yard touchdown following an interception by cornerback Troy McCollum.

Later in the second quarter ULL increased their lead to 28-0 when punter Daniel Cadona completed a pass to fullback Thomas Singleton on a fake punt. Singleton was completely wide open when he hauled in the nearly 50 yard pass and made the only UMass defender with any chance at him miss with a well timed spin move at the 15 yard line before rumbling into the endzone.

"Like I said a while back Daniel has the green light to make those calls. He's a senior and he's seen a lot so he's become very good at reading what the return team is doing. He ran for a first down on one of those a couple weeks ago for us before a big hit and a fumble. It was a great call and read and an incredible throw. Great play." Coach Davis said after the game.

Before halftime Louisiana increased their lead when Pettis lined up at QB and plunged into the endzone from the one yard line.

UMass was able to finally get on the board in the third quarter when Wegzyn kept on a read option and ran in from a yard out.

A third quarter 33 yard touchdown run by Kyle Hicks and a fourth quarter Montrel Carter six yard touchdown run made the final score 49-7 Louisiana.

Hicks completed a 21 yard pass to Pettis on the final play of the third quarter, bringing the total number of ULL players to complete a pass in the game to four (Haack, Cadona, Hicks and backup QB Jalen Nixon).

SR WR ADAM SAVOIE DELIVERS A HIT IN A BIG WIN OVER IDAHO
Louisiana's defense showed up big, shutting out Idaho and holding them under 160 yards of total offense. Idaho's only score came when defensive end Quinton Bradley scooped up a Brooks Haack fumble and returned it for a 73 yard touchdown in the second quarter. The defense also forced five turnovers by Idaho.

The Cajuns offense rolled up 453 yards of total offense along with 23 first downs and 42 points.

Louisiana focused on their running game and ball control once again, running the ball on 42 of their 63 offensive plays and nearly tripling Idaho's time of possession.

Brooks Haack struggled a bit, completing just 11 of 20 pass attempts while throwing a pick and fumbling on a play that became the Vandals only points of the game.

"It's a unique atmosphere up there." Coach Porter Davis said when asked about Haack's play. "That's a long trip and like I said it get's pretty wild in there. We won by 35 so I'm not going to get too worked up about it.

Haack added a rushing touchdown to his stat line as well.

On the ground it was Kyle Hicks and Effrem Reed leading the way. Hicks picked up 127 yards and a score on 17 carries while Reed went for 91 and a score on ten touches.

Torrey Pierce scored with under a minute left to play from three yards out, a score that drew a chorus of boos from the Idaho crowd and some sideways glances from the Idaho staff and players.

"I've got no problem with the play." Davis explained. "It was a dive play and you've got a senior in there who hasn't gotten a lot of touches. I'm not asking him to stop short in that situation.

Adam Savoie and Scott Austin were on the receiving end of Haack's two touchdown passes.

Troy McCollum and Jevante Watson each had interceptions in the game while Chris Hill, Tracy Walker and Watson all recovered fumbles. Dominique Tovell, Watson and Walker forced those fumbles.

A.J. Jefferson recorded the team's only sack.

Louisiana travels to New Mexico State next week.
