Yeah. I'm a little bummed we ended up ranked so highly with a weak schedule but at least UCLA and VA Tech held onto the top 2 spots. Nebraska looks really really good by the numbers.
Thanks for the post.

NEBRASKA SURVIVED A TOUGH TEST FROM LOUISIANA AND CAME AWAY WITH AN OVERTIME VICTORY
Somewhere Skip Bayless has a raging har... uh, somewhere Skip Bayless is really happy with the result of the Rose Bowl.

Number 3 Louisiana, who many thought were extremely overrated and out of place in the top ten, never mind the Rose Bowl, fell to 24th ranked Nebraska in a double overtime thriller of a game that saw a number of lead changes, big plays and key turnovers.

After picking up 39 yards on the first seven plays of the game a promising opening drive by Nebraska came to a halt when senior cornerback Jevante Watson picked off a Tommy Armstrong Jr pass at the Louisiana 22 yard line.

The Cajuns takeaway led to the first score of the game when Brooks Haack connected with tight end Larry Pettis on a five yard touchdown to cap a ten play drive.

Nebraska got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter when sophomore Mike Lott connected on a 22 yard field goal.

Louisiana added a 36 yard field goal by Jeffrey Yatkowski on their next possession and led 10-3.

After stopping Nebraska on a fourth down attempt the Cajuns committed their first turnover of the game when Haack coughed up the ball on a scramble, Nebraska turned the takeaway into a touchdown via a 17 yard touchdown pass from Armstrong to junior receiver Jordan Westerkamp. After the PAT it was tied up at 10-10.

Despite taking over with under 40 seconds to play before halftime the Cajuns were not content to go into the break tied up. Haack connected with Pettis for a gain of 20 yards then after an incompletion connected with Mikey Porter Sr for a 61 yard score when Porter ran past the defense on a deep post.

At halftime Louisiana held a 17-10 lead.

Following a 36 yard field goal miss by Yatkowski and a punt by Nebraska Haack committed his second turnover of the game when he was picked off by Nebraska linebacker Marcus Newby. Nebraska would not be able to turn the takeaway into points and the Huskers punted the ball back. Following a long Haack pass to Jalen Nixon the Cajuns drive also stalled after a third down sack and they too were forced to punt.

Nebraska took over with less than three minutes left in the third quarter and put together a very long drive that spilled into the fourth quarter and culminated in a seven yard rushing touchdown by Armstrong that tied the game at 17-17.

After another Louisiana punt Nebraska took their first lead of the game when Adam Taylor scored on a two yard run.

The Cajuns next possession was short lived. Haack connected with Nixon for a big gain only to have the ball pop out and be recovered by Nebraska.

Nebraska couldn't muster a single first down and with 1:11 left to play Lousiana took over at their own 27 yard line. Following an incompletion Haack found Porter once again for a big gain, 63 yards down to the Nebraska nine yard line. A play later Haack tossed a touchdown pass to Adam Savoie and Yatkowski tied the game with the point after.

After a Nebraska punt Louisiana took over with 15 seconds left but with no timeouts left it wasn't enough time to do anything and so the game went into overtime.

Nebraska had the ball first and after a quick first down had to settle for a 24 yard field goal.

Lousiana was able to answer that score with a 20 yard field goal of their own.

On the first play of the second overtime Haack was picked off by Nebraska's Charles Jackson, effectively ending the game as Nebraska would kick the winning field goal shortly after.

"No regrets, not a bit." Louisiana head coach Porter Davis said following the game. "I don't question putting the ball in his (Brooks Haack's) hands there. he was the one that kept us in the game and we felt that was the move there."

Louisiana finishes their season with a 12-1 record and will likely stay in the top 15 if not the top ten.

"Hate for it to end this way." Said senior defensive end Dominique Tovell, who had a sack in the game and brought his season total to 20. "But it was an incredible season and I'm proud to have been part of it."

Haack was seen sitting on the bench for several minutes after the rest of the team had gone to the locker room. However Davis led the entire team back onto the field and they escorted Haack into the locker room together.

"It's a team game." Davis replied when asked about the gesture. "That was a teachable moment and I think the point got across to Brooks as well as everyone else involved."

Coach Davis' Take
We lost the turnover battle in this one and ultimately lost the game but everyone fought right up to the end and I couldn't be more proud of what we accomplished this season. It was amazing and I can't wait for another one.
