Louisiana started off their game against UConn with a 14 play drive that they capped with a one yard touchdown run by fullback Thomas Singleton. It was a preview of what was to come as the Cajuns leaned heavily on their running game, putting up 302 yards on 49 carries while throwing the ball just 12 times in a 35-17 win.
"We thought we would have more success running the ball against their defense than we would passing. It's as simple as that really." Coach Porter Davis replied when asked about the game plan.
Quarterback Brooks Haack led the way with 25 carries for 203 yards and a score. Singleton scored twice on two carries and Jalen Nixon and Kyle Hicks each added 40 yards. Nixon scored as well.
Haack finished 7 of 12 for 79 yards and a score passing.
Connecticut quarterback Casey Cochran threw 28 times in the game, completing 18 of them for 232 yards and a score. Joseph Williams ran for 88 yards and a score on just eight carries, one of them a 42 yard touchdown.
"To me the quarterback's job is to win, don't matter how." Brooks Haack replied when asked how he felt about his performance in the game.
The Cajuns doubled UConn up on time of possession, keeping their defense quite fresh throughout the game.
Louisiana held the Connecticut offense to 297 total yards and sacked Cochran four times.
The Cajuns improve their record to 4-0 on the season and will travel to Tulane after a week off.

Coach Davis' Take
Set out to run the ball in this one and it went far better than we even could have expected. Brooks was dominant today and he ran the read options to perfection. Made plays with his arm when we needed them too despite not having the opportunity to get a whole lot of rhythm going in the passing game.
