ERIC BERRY DURING HIS TIME WITH THE CHIEFS
The Jets announced shortly after their loss to the Giants that they have agreed to terms with 30 year old safety Eric Berry. Berry played for the chiefs since 2010, recording 448 tackles and 14 interceptions in 89 games played. After missing most of the 2014 season to get treated for cancer Berry triumphantly returned in 2015 and played all 16 games, made the Pro Bowl and was named an All-Pro.
Berry missed all but three games in 2017 and 2018 due to injuries after signing a six year extension with the Chiefs in February of 2017.
"Just very excited for the opportunity and can't wait to get back on the field." Berry said when asked about the signing.
The deal is one year only and could be worth $5.5 million if incentives for playing time and production are met.
"He's a game changer." Coach Portega said of Berry. "Without the injuries we could be talking about a Hall of Famer. We're extremely excited about getting him on board and we're looking forward to deploying him, Jamal, Marcus, Rontez and all of those guys in a number of different ways. It should be very exciting."
Berry Tweeted that he will wear #39 with the Jets as #29 is currently taken by Bilal Powell.
