Miami vs. Michigan State Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

At the beginning of the season, this was seen as a matchup between two potentially undefeated teams looking to stack their resume before heading into the meat of conference play.

While Michigan State (2-1, No. 12 AP) didn't hold up their end of the bargain, Saturday figures to be quite the game as the Spartans head into Miami Gardens, looking to knock the undefeated #8 Canes.

Wisconsin managed to pull the upset off last week, beating Michigan State 31-24. Neither of these teams have faced tough competition as Michigan State had wins over Eastern Michigan and Wyoming who are a combined 0-5. As it currently stands, Michigan State won't face another ranked opponent until the start of November when they play Michigan and Ohio State back to back.

First-time starter Rocky Lombardi has had an up and down start to the season. He's completing 53.2 percent of his passes and has just four touchdowns through three games. The Spartans have relied mostly on their running attack and their two 230-plus pound running backs in Connor Heyward and La'Darius Jefferson. Heyward is averaging 112.3 yards per game while Jefferson is at 90.6

For Miami, this is the start of a tough stretch as they then will host Boston College before hitting the road against two undefeated teams in #5 Florida State and #13 Virginia.

Miami dominates Michigan State en-route to 35-23 win to remain undefeated
Despite the gaudy Turnover Chain and the flashy Touchdown Rings, the thing Manny Diaz wanted to instill into 'The New Miami' was toughness, physicality and grit.

On a rainy afternoon in South Florida, the undefeated Hurricanes displayed just that behind a tough defense and a punishing running game in their 35-23 win over 12th ranked Michigan State.

A late touchdown made the game appear to be closer and tighter than it appeared as Miami dominated from the first whistle to the last. A red-zone interception on the first drive was the last of big mistakes for Miami as Jarren Williams threw for 218 yards and a touchdown.

Cam'Ron Harris led the way with 97 yards while Lorenzo Lingard added 95 yards and two touchdowns, as did Randy Battle with his 48 yards rushing. Fellow running back Kirk Banks did his damage in the passing game, catching eight passes for 65 yards.

Michigan State was forced to abandon their running game which was working as Connor Heyward had over 90 yards through the first half but finished the game with just 25 more yards after the half.
