Miami at Florida State Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

At the top of the year, Miami circled two games on it's schedule. An early October trip to Florida State and a home-stand against Virginia Tech before the last stretch of the season. These two games were likely to be a rematch of last season where all three of them took turns as a top-three team in the country.

Florida State is 1-3, fresh off a road loss to Maryland but now they get to return home and turn their season around. Miami beat Florida State twice last season, once in Miami and once in Charlotte as the Hurricanes won their first ever ACC championship en route to the program's sixth national championship.

Florida State lost a lot of talent this past spring with starting quarterback James Blackmon and Heisman finalist running back Khalan Laborn gone to the NFL.

Morris leads comeback as Williams injured in Miami's win over rival Florida State
Three years ago, Tyrone Williams started his Miami Hurricanes legacy by going into Doak Campbell as a true freshman and beating Florida State in overtime.

Anthony Morris just started his.

After throwing two interceptions in the first half, Williams left the game with a knee injury and in came Morris, who threw a pick on his second pass as Miami fell down 24-6 to Florida State. The Hurricanes rallied back behind Morris and his four touchdowns to win the game in overtime on a two-point conversion where Williams found Dusty Simpson for the win.

Miami took a three-point lead with 21 seconds left in the quarter when they kicked in a 22-yard field goal but Florida State was able to connect on a 56-yard pass on the very first play to set up the 39-yard field goal to force overtime.

‣ Williams return to practice amid rumors surrounding injury vs. Florida State

Miami junior quarterback Tyrone Williams' season isn't going as expected with the quarterback throwing at least one interception in each of his starts and struggling with injuries. Williams did return to practice this week after leaving last week's game with a knee injury and is expected to make the start against Virginia.

Williams' knee injury was reportedly a bruised knee which he could have played with according to a source close to the situation. In fact, the same source cites that Williams was in the process of going back into the game while in the locker room when his father came in and instructed the training staff that Williams won't be returning.

Williams did not return to the sideline until the start of the fourth quarter where he was not in uniform.

According to sources within the program, Manny Diaz was not aware of Williams' father's involvement in the decision.

‣ Former five-star Washington benched in favor of Couch

After allowing three touchdowns in the win against Florida State, junior Donald Washington did not run practice with the first team defense but instead it was senior Te'cory Couch who got the nod opposite of Christian Williams.

Washington was a five-star recruit coming out of high school but struggled to get on the field due the depth at corner and now has been benched in his first few games as a starter.

‣ Miami closing in on four-star OLB Barclay

Miami will be hosting four-star OLB Barry Barclay out of Leawood, KS and local four-star ATH Chris Grant next week.

At six-two and 221 pounds, the Kansas product has offers from Colorado, Michigan, Louisiana Tech and FIU among others. Miami is considered a strong favorite with Barclay being on commit watch during his visit.

Miami would love to pair Barclay with the top ranked linebacker in the country, five-star Larry Washington out of the Parkland area. Washington released his top five a few weeks ago which included Miami, Georgia, USF, Washington State and Pittsburgh.

For Grant, the biggest question is whether or not Miami's crowded secondary will attract him. Grant projects to be a defensive back at the next level although he plays both safety and running back for Coral Gables High School. His top schools include Florida State, Ole Miss and Florida.
