Miami vs. Rutgers Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Miami returns eight starters on offense under new offensive coordinator Tavita Pritchard while Miami's defense returns six on defense. Last season, they were a young, scrappy team that managed to win eleven games.

Now, there are expectations.

Manny Diaz will begin his second season as the head coach of Hurricanes under much different circumstances. He has a quarterback in Jarren Williams who broke school records as a redshirt freshman last season. They're not traveling up to Orlando to play a #8-ranked Florida but instead, they are facing off against a Rutgers team that won four games last season.

This is a showcase and jitters game for Miami.

"Get the nerves out of the way," said Diaz of what he wants from his team come Saturday, "And go punish somebody."

Rutgers is ripe for the punishing. Artur Sitkwowski was once a Miami commit and target but then the Hurricanes dropped him after he struggled during his senior season at IMG Academy. The person who replaced Sitkowski in that class? Jarren Williams.

Sitkowski bounced back from a putrid freshman season to put together a decent sophomore year, throwing nine touchdowns to eight interception. The six-foot-five signal caller has a few talented backs in his backfield in Raheem Blackshear (888 yards, 6 touchdowns in 2019) and Isaih Pacheco, who rushed for 520 yards last season.

Miami is trying to replace it's three linebackers from last season and the new crop of players, including true freshman Kevin Jones, will be tested early against this crop of running backs.

Miami's young talent flashes in 56-21 win over Rutgers
Brett Sharp's strategy in high school was simple. Get to the edge of the defense and then turn on his 4.3 speed down the sidelines. That surely won't work in college. Or will it?

Sharp had two long touchdown runs, igniting the Hurricanes offense to a 56-21 win over Rutgers on Saturday.

Sharp, a true freshman, rushed for 118 yards on just five carries. Fellow true freshman Randy Battle scored the first touchdown of the season and finished with 50 yards rushing. Kirk Banks, the third of the trio of running backs, had a 37-yard touchdown on a screen.

Miami is planting it's flag once again as RBU.

Lorenzo Lingard added 55 yards and two touchdowns as Miami's rushing attack was able to help put Jarren Williams in favorable situations. His only interception came on a Hail Marry but besides that, he finished 14 of 21 for 240 yards and three touchdowns. He went to Brevin Jordan early in the game -- 4 receptions, 46 yards -- and hooked up with Mike Harley for a beautiful diving touchdown.

Miami vs. Temple Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Manny Diaz was the Temple head coach for 19 days before returning to Miami following Mark Richt's retirement. Temple hired Rod Carey from Northern Illinois and went 9-3. Miami went 11-2. Both won their bowl games, both had successful seasons and both are considered one of the contenders in their conferences.

No harm, no foul. For the most part.

"We're definitely happy with coach Carey," says Temple senior CB Harrison Hand, "We wouldn't trade him for [Diaz], no way. I don't feel one or two ways about it but at the end of the day, he did leave us for somewhere else so although we're happy he did leave because we got coach Carey, we do want to make a statement on Saturday."

Temple started the week being mum on the situation, with players and coaches saying the right things. And then some players took to Twitter with some subtle shots that could be perceived as being about Miami's head coach. Through it all, Miami remains focus.

"It doesn't mean anything to us," says Miami senior corner Trajan Bandy, "We have to play at the end of the day and they have to put the ball on the 20, 25-yard line and we'll get to play. All that talking, social media stuff, that's not really for me."

Temple impressed many in their opener against Georgia State before dropping a seven point loss to Maryland. In both games, Temple's passing game, in both games, was limited. They are expected to be without quarterback Anthony Russo, who started last season and threw sixteen touchdowns. In his place is the more mobile junior, Todd Centeio. Centeio rushed for 37 yards in his first career start last week.

Outside of Branden Mack, who caught 51 passes last season, Temple has very few unproven players on offense. Jamar Wesley, a JUCO pickup, is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and has showed flashes in his first two games but Miami's defense is a different animal than Georgia State and Maryland.

Defensively, Temple has some guys that can cause Miami's offensive line some problems. Quincy Roche is a very solid defensive end while Dan Archibong on the inside will be disruptive as he recorded 7.5 sacks last season.

Miami Hurricanes insult and humiliate Temple 63-19
A pregame scuffle. Some yapping during the game. Running up the score with a flea-flicker.

These are your father's Hurricanes.

Miami pulled away in the fourth quarter, scoring 28 unanswered points to runaway with the 63-19 victory over Temple.

One of the scores came with 32 seconds left in the game where Miami ran a flea flicker that resulted in a 24-yard touchdown pass to Brian Hightower. Many Temple players took exception to it, adding on to some tension that started before the game even began.

Manny Diaz was the Temple head coach for 19 days before returning to Miami following Mark Richt's retirement. A few Temple players took to Twitter before the game and seemed to take subtle shots at Diaz with starting corner Harrison Hand going on the record as saying they wouldn't trade current head coach Rod Carey for Diaz, noting that they're happy that Diaz left.

The next drive, Miami intercepted Todd Centeio with Trajan Bandy returning it for a touchdown. On the next possession, the same thing happened again, this time with D.J. Ivey. Both times, Miami's defense taunted the Temple sideline before being flagged for unsportsmanlike.

Diaz didn't have a problem with it.

"They play with energy," Diaz said of his defense, "I can't comment on how other people do things or run their defenses or their teams or their programs but here at Miami, we play with an edge and intensity."

Miami came out slow in the first quarter, trailing Temple entering the second quarter but back to back drives ended with a Randy Battle touchdown run. Miami was able to get going in the second half as Jarren Williams threw for 358 yards and three touchdowns.

Brian Hightower had a career day, catching ten passes for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns. As for the Flea Flicker...

"We liked that play," said offensive coordinator Tavita Pritchard, "I called it, it was my decision and that's that."

Miami vs. Louisville Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The last time Miami went into Louisville, they had Brad Kaaya -- a true freshman that didn't enroll at Miami until that summer -- starting his first ever college game. The Cardinals took off on Kaaya, beating up on the skinny California kid and routing Miami 31-13.

Miami's got a new #15 this time.

Jarren Williams and Miami cracked the AP top-ten for the first time under head coach Manny Diaz this week and will open their ACC play on the road against Louisville. Miami's offense, which is averaging 59.5 points through two games, is highly explosive. The defense is still coming alone. Miami hopes to sync both of them together on the road this week.

The Cardinals are also on high after beating FIU in the opener and rival Kentucky last week. Senior Jawon Pass, who completed just 38 percent of his passes last year, has shown improvements, completing 52 percent of his passes so far this season. He's been prone to turnovers, however, as he has four interceptions on the season already.

Louisville will be without running back Hassan Hall, who rushed for 1,091 yards last season and averaging 160 yards per game this season. Replacing the injured Hall is redshirt sophomore Javian Hawkins who's been solid this year with 138 yards on the ground. With an inexperienced bunch at receiver and Pass' limited passing ability, Miami will look to stop the Cardinals rushing attack.
