‣ Miami gets commitment from JUCO TE Smith

Miami received a commitment from two-star tight end Tommy Smith, the JUCO tight end out of Olympia Heights, Florida.

Smith, listed at six-foot-five and 255 pounds, will bring some much needed depth at the position with Will Mallory graduating next spring. Smith is well rounded with abilities both in the pass catching and run blocking aspect of the game.

Miami is still in the hunt for four-star tight end Tyler Walker along with Marshall.

Hurricanes defense blanket Cavs' offense as Miami defends home field
Manny Diaz might now be the head coach at Miami but he's still a defensive coach at heart. Games like those on Saturday bring a smile on his face.

The Hurricanes shutout the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday 21-0 to earn them their fifth win of the season and their third ACC victory.

Virginia had just 175 yards of total offense and just 79 yards passing in what was a complete dominance despite Miami only having the ball a minute more than Virginia. The Cavaliers went 2-for-12 on third downs and reach the redzone just once before Brennan Armstrong was intercepted.

Miami takes care of Duke behind Williams, offense in 51-31 win
Miami's defense was in a position it hadn't been in for most of the season.

Duke was pushing the ball down the field, going up tempo and catching them off guard. A cakewalk against a two-win team was turning into a slug fest, a fight.

Exactly how Manny Diaz and his defense wanted it as they held Duke to just seven points in the second half and outscored them by sixteen points to complete the 51-31 win over the Blue Devils.

Earlier in the night, Tennessee had completed the upset of #1 Alabama and Louisville, which Miami dominated, took #2 Florida State all the way into overtime. Miami did not join the Crimson Tide but instead, are looking at a jump in the BCS rankings against a potential No. 1 Florida State next week.
