Quarterman, Hall named All-Americans as Miami looks forward to Auburn
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Shaq Quarterman's decision to return for a senior season has paid off, literally. The linebacker is set to be a Day 1 or Day 2 draft pick after a senior season that saw him win the Bednarik, Nagurski and Butkus Award.

Quarterman was also named to the AP First Team All-American selection with sophomore defensive back Gurvan Hall making the second team. Jarren Williams got the nod on Freshman All-American team after throwing 30 touchdowns as a freshman, a school record. Jeff Thomas also made the first team as a punt returner.

Both Quarterman and Hall were joined on the First Team All-ACC by tight end Brevin Jordan and guard Navaughn Donaldson. On the second team were HB Deejay Dallas, WR Jeff Thomas and the trio of defensive linemen Jonathan Garvin, Trevon Hill and Nesta Jade Silvera.

Miami will play Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, which will be Quarterman's last game as a Hurricane.

Chick-fil-A Bowl Preview: Auburn vs. Miami
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

A season of what-ifs.

Auburn (7-5, 4-4) was one or two plays away from beating Washington, Ole Miss, Georgia and Alabama. They'd be sitting with eleven wins and likely playing in a NYE6 bowl. If Miami (10-2, 7-1) doesn't lose to Florida and Virginia Tech, they're likely playing in the national championship game. Instead, both teams find each other in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in a bowl that neither team seems thrill to be in.

"We wanted more," said a candid Nick Coe of the Tigers, "We wanted to play in a big bowl, the national championship so yeah, we're disappointed in our seasons with seven wins but eight sounds a lot better than seven so we have to show up."

Showing up will be the hardest part. Miami receiver Jeff Thomas is not expected to play in the bowl game and will instead shift his focus towards preparing for the NFL Draft, ending all speculation about whether or not he will return for a senior season.

Running back Deejay Dallas will play, albeit in a limited role according to team sources as to not interfere with his draft prospects with a potential injury. The running back has not decided on whether or not he will declare but those close to him say he will.

Despite rumors of offensive coordinator Dan Enos taking the same job at LSU running around, Enos will be calling plays.

Miami still has the Tigers to worry about, internal issues be damned. True freshman Bo Nix has been inconsistent but is a talented quarterback, one of the more talented ones that Miami has faced. Jatarvuiys Whitlow is a 1,000-yard rusher and Kam Martin packs a punch as well, running for 879 yards on the season. These two are some of the best backs Miami has faced all season

Auburn enters the game as a five point favorite over the Hurricanes.

Miami scores 22 points in third quarter, shutout Tigers in second half to earn bowl victory
Many were worried about Miami's motivation and energy heading into the bowl game against Auburn. When the Canes fell down 9-0, many pundits seemed to be proven right.

And then Manny Diaz lit a fire under his team and they outscored Auburn 29-7 for the rest of the game, running away with the thirteen point victory and the bowl win in the 29-16 win.

"We'll play anyone," said Diaz, "I had to remind them what this culture is about, what this program is about and how much fun they have playing this game. Once they got out of their heads, it was just a bunch of wild dogs."

Miami seemed overwhelmed with Auburn's front seven as Deejay Dallas fumbled, which led to a field goal, and Miami missed a kick, which was responded with another field goal by Auburn to put Miami down 9-0.

The Hurricanes seemed to have found their stride, scoring on a touchdown with 41 seconds left in the game but then Bo Nix and Auburn easily went down the field and then scored again to make it 16-7 heading into the half. And then Diaz gave a 'legendary speech'.

"I won't tell you what he said or what was said," said a smiling Shaq Quarterman, "But it was legendary, it was a legendary speech and it definitely lit a fire under us and got us going."

As they had done throughout the years, it was senior linebackers Quarterman and Pinckney that got the team going with interceptions in the second half, donning the Turnover Chain for the last time in their careers. Jarren Williams then got going, throwing two more touchdowns and throwing for 332 yards on the game.

Cam'Ron Harris, who replaced draft bound Deejay Dallas after his fumble, had two touchdowns in what figures to be his new role as the team's feature back next season. Brian Hightower got his first career touchdown in Jeff Thomas' absent, who sat to prepare for the draft.

It was the old guys going out in style and the new blood getting warmed up.

Miami loses top coordinators Enos, Baker to head coaching jobs
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Miami fans hearts skipped for a second when the rumor mill started around head coach Manny Diaz heading to California to coach the Golden Bears. Diaz's name had been mentioned in talks with Penn State and Auburn as well but the coach took to Twitter to reassure fans he's staying at Miami.

After offensive coordinator Dan Enos was rumored to be in the running for the Kent State and Colorado State job, it was Blake Baker actually that got the nod to be the head coach of the Rams, replacing Mike Bobo. Soon after the news of Dan Enos heading back to the midwest broke when Miami of Ohio announced him as their new head coach.

Diaz is rumored to have former Auburn offensive coordinator Guz Malzahn as his top candidate to replace Enos after Malzahn was fired but it remains to be seen if Diaz can convince Malzahn to not take a lower level head coaching job.

Many expect Malzahn to be the top candidate for the UConn head coaching vacancy.

Diaz steals Pritchard from Stanford, Branda promoted to DC
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Miami has their next play caller and it's Tavita Pritchard out of Stanford.

Miami also considered James Franklin, the fired head coach from Penn State, and UCF offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. The top candidates before the Pritchard hire were Guz Malzahn who took the head coaching job at UConn and TCU's offensive coordinator, Sonny Cumbie.

Pritchard went undrafted in the 2010 NFL Draft after backing up Andrew Luck at Stanford. In May, he participated in a rookie minicamp with the San Francisco 49ers but was not offered a contract. Pritchard worked as a volunteer assistant for the Stanford football team in 2010, and in 2011, was hired as a defensive assistant football coach at Stanford by new head football coach David Shaw. In January 2013, Pritchard was elevated to the role of running backs coach. In December 2013, he was promoted to quarterbacks and wide receivers coach, succeeding Mike Sanford. In December 2017, Pritchard was promoted to offensive coordinator when Mike Bloomgren left to become head coach at Rice.

Stanford's offense was ranked 27th in the country last season. Pritchard figures to run a pro-style offense similar to Enos.

In lesser news, safeties coach Emphraim Banda was promoted to defensive coordinator.
