Miami at Florida State Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Everyone in Coral Gables expects freshman quarterback Tyrone Williams to have a great college career and potentially go on to play in the NFL at a high level. No one expected him to be the starting quarterback of the Miami Hurricanes heading into Tallahassee.

No. 4 Miami (5-0, 2-0) had a tumultuous week, and that's before they've even had to face undefeated No. 3 Florida State. Miami Hurricanes football head coach Manny Diaz announced on Tuesday during the team's media session that starting quarterback Jarren Williams, running back Lorenzo Lingard and receiver Brian Hightower had all been suspended indefinitely and would not be playing against Florida State.

Jarren Williams was averaging 275.8 yards per game this season with 12 touchdowns. Lingard leads the team with 383 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.

"This is part of college football," said Diaz, who declined to comment on the nature of the suspensions or who would start on Saturday, "This isn't a natural disaster, we caused this on ourselves with our actions as a team so we have to go through it."

Many expect Tyrone Williams to get the starting nod over redshirt junior N'Kosi Perry who started some games as a redshirt freshman and even beat Florida State.

Even before the suspensions, Miami had their hands full with Florida State. The Seminoles lost their starting quarterback as well, James Blackman, to injury but Jordan Travis has been serviceable with 13 touchdowns to just two interceptions. The Seminoles have instead relied heavily on the legs of Cam Akers, who is averaging 101.4 yards per game this season on 6.2 yards per carry.

Defensively, FSU is ranked top ten in total defense, top 40 in rush defense and ninth in the country in pass defense, a stat that doesn't bode well for true freshman Tyrone Williams.

Hurricanes overcome freshman mistakes to down FSU in overtime
Tyrone Williams was jogging down the field, taunting the FSU sideline following his 57-yard touchdown pass to Randy Battle to put Miami up 31-14 with 5:47 left in the game.

Tavita Pritchard was calling the perfect game for his true freshman quarterback and Williams was executing it with confidence. Until he wasn't.

Williams threw two interceptions in the fourth, including a pick-six, as FSU scored 17 unanswered points in the final three minutes of the game to force overtime.

The freshman regrouped himself and threw the walk-off, game winning touchdown on third and goal in overtime to avoid the blunder and earn him his first career win.

"It was definitely a learning moment," said Williams after the game, "Games can switch just like that and they certainly pushed us and they're a great team. Hats off to them."

Jordan Travis, who threw two interceptions in the first quarter and a pick-six, led the comeback effort with 304 yards and a touchdown but it was Cam Akers that kept them in the game. Akers rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns but ultimately, the star running back will finish his college career without ever beating Miami.

‣ OG Mike Henry joins 2020 class as local WR chooses UCF

Miami landed a verbal commitment from three-star guard Mike Henry out of Fort Walton Beach, Florida over the weekend as they continue to make a push for Connecticut interior lineman Marcus May, another three-star prospect, and three-star Christian Perry out of West Palm Beach.

Henry had offers from Florida, Georgia, Florida State and Auburn. At six-foot-five and 306 pounds, he has prototypical size for the position and figures to be a potential contributor after potentially redshirting as a freshman.

Miami expects to have both May and Perry on campus in the next month as they are their top targets on the offensive line.

The Hurricanes did lose out on Paul King, a fan favorite receiver out of Lauderhill, Florida. King's speed impressed coaches and fans during the 7-on-7 circuit last summer but Miami was hesitant to offer the three-star receiver. Miami did finally offer him this month but according to sources, Miami did not allow him to commit which led to him committing to UCF.

Miami is confident that they can land five-star receiver Ryan Barr out of Pennsylvania. They've also focused on Alabama receiver Justin Sarria out of Alabama and four-star receiver Tyson Anderson has also received some looks.

‣ Sharp to miss a few weeks with torn pectoral

Miami's running back room continue to take hits as true freshman Brett Sharp tore his pectoral muscle against Florida State and will miss significant amount of time. This comes the same week that suspended running back Lorenzo Lingard announced that he will be preparing for the NFL Draft following his indefinite suspension for undisclosed reasons.

Sharp was averaging 18.7 yards per rush and had five touchdowns on just fourteen carries.

Once considered a deep position, Miami now has just three healthy running backs in Cam'Ron Harris, Randy Battle and Kirk Banks. It remains to be seen if that affects recruiting as Miami had previously not planned on signing a running back.

Miami at Virginia Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Miami freshman quarterback got the roller-coaster ride of his life last week against Florida State where he went into a hostile environment, dominated, nearly threw the game away and then threw a walk-off, game winning touchdown in overtime to take down the Seminoles in his first ever college game.

No time for a breather as the No. 2 Hurricanes (6-0, 3-0) travel into Charlottesville to face a desperate and talented Virginia (No. 22 AP, 4-2, 2-1 ACC) trying to avoid losing three straight.

The Cavaliers lost last week in overtime to Notre Dame in a game where sophomore Brennan Armstrong threw for 241 yards and senior receiver Terrell Jana had four catches for 101 yards in one of his better performances of the season. The Cavaliers offense has sputtered at times this season, averaging just 28.5 points per game. They scored just seventeen points in the win over UCLA and had 21 points against Louisville.

They'll need to find a way to get over the thirty point mark and they'll be aided by their elite defense which is ranked sixth in the country in total defense and eighth against the pass.

Virginia Schedule
UCLA: W 17-0

Nice preview. I don't think they will pull any punches. A QB with some speed can be trouble. Good luck against that.
