Tar Heels are embarrassed following a 45-7 shellacking by Miami
Miami's offense has looked impressive since the lackluster performance against Florida, albeit against lower level competition.

North Carolina isn't exactly the same level of talent that'll be waiting for them come next week -- or in Charlotte -- but if tonight was any indication, Miami's offense is back.

Jarren Williams was nearly flawless, Deejay Dallas was relentless and explosive and Miami's defense completely shut down the Tar Heels offense in the 45-7 drubbing of North Carolina on Thursday night.

North Carolina tied the game with two minutes left in the first quarter and a redzone interception kept Miami from scoring but outside of that, North Carolina had no answers for Miami's offense and Miami's defense had the cheat-sheet for the Tar Heels offense.

Williams went 21 of 26 for 236 yards with a redzone interception that offensive coordinator and play-caller Dan Enos called "inexcusable". Williams did score a touchdown with his feat.

Florida took turns taking a beating on Miami's two freshmen offensive tackles and its quarterback. Tonight, it was Miami's turn to unleash hell upon Sam Howell's path. The true freshman went 20 of 36 for 140 yards with 93 of those yards coming in the fourth quarter during garbage time. He was sacked seven times, losing 30 yards in the process along with his other nine carries.

Williams, meanwhile, was not sacked all night as he was able to evade the rush when it did come. He found Tate Martell three times once the rush did some for 42 yards, all on third downs.

Scoring Summary

3:58 (MIA) J. Williams, 8 Yd run
2:00 (UNC) R. Groves, 8 Yd pass from S. Howell

Florida State vs. Miami Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

When the Coaches Poll came out, Florida State saw itself jump eight spots after a wild weekend in college football that saw Alabama, Georgia and Florida all lose in upset fashion. One team that did not make the top 25 was the Miami Hurricanes despite the reshuffling. Another team that certainly noticed that they didn't make the top 25 were the Miami Hurricanes.

"We get it," said linebacker Shaq Quarterman, "We're Miami, they're not supposed to like us, we don't expect them to like us."

Quarterman didn't mince words when describing this week's opponent Florida State. He doesn't like them and neither does the rest of the team. He also, 'quite frankly', doesn't think they're a good team.

"They've got some guys don't get me wrong," said the senior linebacker, "But quite frankly, they don't really stand out during film. They're an okay team, to me. We've played better teams in the past and beat those guys so I'd say we're pretty confident."

Miami has reason to be confident heading into a home game against No. 10 ranked Seminoles. Florida State narrowly beat Virginia Tech and Louisville but outside of that, the Seminoles are as untested as the Hurricanes minus the week zero matchup against Florida.

James Blackman has been serviceable but not outstanding for the Noles, completing just 43 percent of his passes and averaging 181.6 yards per game. Instead, Kendall Briles has relied on running back Cam Akers to shoulder the load for the offense. The junior is averaging 106.2 yards per game this season and over five yards per carry for the former highly-touted prospect. On Saturday, he'll match-up against the top ranked defense looking to make a statement to the world....and the coaches poll.

When Miami last played a ranked opponent, they were starting two freshmen tackles and a freshman at quarterback. While that is also the case for Saturday, they now have the top ranked scoring offense in the nation -- inflated with 79 points against Bethune Cookman and 56 against Central Michigan -- and the fifth ranked passing offense in the nation.

Unlike Blackman, Williams has been a model of efficiency. Freshman mistakes that turn into interceptions aside, he's completing seventy two percent of his passes and has ten touchdowns on the year. He's also rushed in four times on the ground.

Miami has won the last two meetings against Florida State, both of them coming down to the wire. Williams is already 0-1 against rivals and knows how important a win against Florida State is to start the Manny Diaz - Jarren Williams era.

"Everybody in the locker room knows how big this game is," said Williams during Wednesday's availability to the media, "It's a big game, a huge moment for a lot of us and we have to show up and play for sixty minutes."

The game will kickoff at noon on ESPN. Miami is expected to host several recruits including four-star WR Jeff Nelson, four-star DE Tyler Bates and four-star WR Mark McTaggart among many others.

Hard Rock Stadium -- Miami, FL

MIA - 14 / 3 / 0 / 0 // 17

Miami holds off late FSU push to knock out Seminoles in third straight matchup
Miami coach Manny Diaz instructed Louis Hedley to kick the opening kickoff into the field of play. He then told the other ten rabid defenders to go hit someone.

Bubba Bolden did just that, causing a fumble that was recovered by Lorenzo Lingard which led to a Deejay Dallas touchdown run to open up the game. Manny Diaz's new Miami feels a lot like the old Miami as the Hurricanes blanketed the Seminoles offense and avoided James Blackman's late game heroics to hold on to a 17-14 win.

Blackman connected with Terry on an 80-yard touchdown with four seconds left in the game. Terry was able to out jump Trajan Bandy and then outran the rest of Miami's secondary in what Blake Baker described as a ' busted play'. The touchdown gave Florida State life but when Miami recovered the onside kick a few moments later, it was all she wrote.

Miami's defense dominated, limiting Florida State to 301 yards of total offense with their two touchdown drives coming in the fourth quarter when Miami started playing more conservatively. The 'Noles rushed for just 43 yards on the ground.

For the Hurricanes offense, they dominated time of possession which was their goal coming into the game. Miami had the ball for 47 of the game's 60 minutes, relying on a gritty running game led by Dallas' 69 tough yards on the ground. Cam'Ron Harris added 26 yards as well. Jarren Williams executed the gameplan perfectly until Stanford Samuels III made a leaping, one-handed interception in the endzone for a pass intended for Brevin Jordan.

Jordan led the game with six receptions for 50 yards.

The Seminoles being ranked tenth in the nation was the topic of much discussion and scrutiny, especially given that Miami -- with a similar resume albeit a loss to Florida -- was unranked. Shaq Quarterman made news when he said he wasn't impressed with the Seminoles this season but he ultimately got the last word.

"We knew who they were coming into this game," said Quarterman, who is now 3-1 against Florida State, "They're a tough team, a talented team but we're better. Flat out."

Quarterman had three tackles on the game while quarterbacking the defense that shutout the Seminoles offense for three quarters.
