‣ Williams cleared by team doctors but not expected to be with team

Miami junior quarterback Tyrone Williams has reportedly been cleared by team doctors but is not with the team according to a source close to the situation.

Williams sprained his right elbow in the team's win over SMU in the opener and has missed the last two weeks. Williams started taking part of non-contact, non-throwing drills last week but since Monday, he has not been spotted at practice.

According to a source within the program, Williams' father had requested that Williams' elbow be examined by an independent doctor.

Manny Diaz refused to comment on the situation as Miami plays Wake Forest this week.

Wake Forest at Miami Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Miami's young pups at quarterback -- Anthony Morris and Curtis Corbett -- went through a rollercoaster of a week. The team's incumbent starter Tyrone Williams was expected to be cleared to return from his elbow injury that sidelined him the last two weeks. Morris and Corbett would slide back onto the bench and start waiting their turn once more. It was then reported that Williams was not going to be playing this week and that he wasn't completely cleared after all.

All that to say that Morris will once again be Miami's starting quarterback as they play Wake Forest in Morris' first start at home.

‣ Williams returns to team during bye week, expected to start next week against NC State

Miami junior quarterback Tyrone Williams was back on campus on Sunday and was a full-participant in practice.

While rehabbing his sprained elbow, Williams had taken a leave of absence from the team and according to reports, his father was 'not satisfied' with the medical clearance of the team's staff. Williams was not on the sideline for the team's game against Wake Forest and was seen on his younger brother's social media post as being back home in Virginia as late as last Friday night.

Williams returned to the team on Sunday and has started taking reps with the belief around the program that Williams will start against NC State.

There were growing concerns that Williams might have not returned to play this season according to a source close to the situation given Williams' draft prospects.

‣ Charles continues to replace Campbell Jr. at right tackle

Miami freshman offensive tackle Kevin Charles got his first career starter on Saturday against Wake Forest.

The former four-star recruit replaced redshirt senior John Campbell Jr. after Campbell had two false start penalties against Washington, one of them coming on fourth and inches when Miami was getting ready to go for it.

Charles replaced Campbell in the Washington game and then eventually got the start the next week.

‣ Battle becomes favorite in Vegas to win the Heisman

It's been generations since Miami's had a Heisman winner but their next one might be on the horizon, at least according to Caesar's Palace.

The sports booking casino updated their Heisman odds and at the top was running back Randy Battle, the junior who already has nine touchdowns on the season. Battle's sophomore campaign saw him rush for 849 yards and 23 touchdowns. He's currently on pace for 1,180 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Miami at North Carolina State Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

When the season began, many pegged a Miami Hurricane to be a potential Heisman winner. They just didn't think it would be running back Randy Battle and not Tyrone Williams.

Williams returns to lead the Hurricanes back on the road as the nation's number two team against an over-matched North Carolina State team after missing the last three games with an elbow injury.

The Wolfpack opened the season with a road win at Eastern Carolina but since then have lost to Georgia Tech and Utah State, both on the road.

The home opener will also be Emphraim Banda's first game against his former boss. Banda spent the last two seasons as Miami's defensive coordinator and had been on Manny Diaz's staff since 2016. Banda replaced the fired Dave Doeren, who is now the defensive coordinator at Miami.
