Saturday was a great day to be a Miami Hurricane as the Hurricanes defeated rival Florida State, who ranked tenth in the country. Throughout the weekend, Miami was able to receive seven verbal commitments to jump start their 2020 recruiting class.
The commits included four-star defensive tackle Jordan Tyler (New Britain, CT), three-star cornerback E.J. Bryant from local Northwestern High School, three-star offensive tackle Mark King out of South Dade High School, three-star center Dan Cook from the IMG Academy, three-star offensive tackle Dennis Garrett (Black Forest, CO) and three-star defensive end C.J. Thomas out of Boynton Beach. Two-star JUCO safety Justin Jones also announced his commitment via Twitter.
The big gets were Tyler and Bryant with Bryant having Auburn, Florida State and Georgia Tech in his top four while Tyler was pursued by Ohio State, Clemson, Notre Dame and Florida State.
‣ Miami looks to make big splash with out of state recruits
With Miami able to secure a lot of the local talent that they had targeted, they are now able to focus on some of the out-of-state recruits that they're going after.
Miami is considered the favorite to land five-star QB Tyrone Williams (Centreville, VA) and made the top-five for three of the top six running backs in the nation in #2 HB Brett Sharp (White Oak, OH), #3 HB Randy Battle (Central Point, OR) and #6 HB Kirk Banks (Castro Valley, CA). Miami's utilization of three running backs this season is likely what is drawing these top talents to consider going to Miami.
Five-star athletes Donald Washington (Westmont, CA) and Eddie Clark (Lusk, WY) also have Miami in their newly released top five.
Miami's roster is currently almost all Florida and Georgia players but under Manny Diaz, Miami seems to be moving towards a national brand instead of just focusing on the South Florida area.
