Miami at Virginia Tech Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Miami sophomore quarterback grew up three hours from Blacksburg, Virginia in Centreville where he set many Fairfax County records as a five-star quarterback. Despite Centreville being more Washington D.C. than truly Virginia, Hokies fans felt slighted when the highly-recruited quarterback never paid them an official or unofficial visit.

The Hokies got their revenge, intercepting Williams four times last season and resulting in him being benched. It's Williams' turn now.

The 19-year old quarterback will look to slay the second No. 1 team in three weeks when the Hurricanes (No. 2 BCS, 8-1, 6-0) come into Blacksburg as 6.5-point underdogs against a Virginia Tech (No. 1 BCS, 9-0, 6-0) team that looks dominant.

Williams was criticized last season for his play and relegated to a game manager. Under new offensive coordinator Jonathan Smith, who might get another crack at a Power 5 head coaching job, Williams has turned into Miami's gunslinger at quarterback. In the loss to Alabama, Williams completed 81 percent of his passes and threw for 271 yards while rushing for 40. Against Duke on the road, he threw for 375 yards and three touchdown in a game where Miami's defense struggled and the next week, he threw for 283 yards and a touchdown against Florida State, rushing for 66 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner.

Baxa and the Hurricanes easily handle a good Virginia Tech team in rivalry game
Tyrone Williams wore the number one all throughout his youth football career. When he got to Miami, it was already being worn by running back Lorenzo Lingard. Williams' next number of choice was number ten, an homage to his favorite player growing up in a suburb of D.C., former Washington Redskins quarterback and Heisman winner Robert Griffin III. The number ten is retired in honor of George Mira so Williams added the two numbers and he's now forever linked with a Miami great.

The Hurricanes are now poised to top the college football rankings following their 33-6 win over Virginia Tech on Saturday, a ranking they haven't reach since Kevin Dorsey, another out-of-state rocking number eleven, was at quarterback back in 2003.

Williams took a back-seat to Miami's defense which had struggled in its last two primetime games against Florida State and Duke. The Hurricanes defense held the Hokies to just 150 yards of total offense and just five net rushing yards.

‣ Miami on the defensive during poaching season

Miami was once considered a 'lock' for four-star athlete Curtis Corbett and four-star safety Kevin Kiniry but they now find themselves in a recruiting battle with Kansas and Ole Miss respectively.

Kansas currently has just two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster with quarterback Miles Kendrick set to graduate this spring. Ole Miss on the other hands also only has two scholarship strong safeties with starter C.J. Miles a graduating senior.

Kansas is also in the mix with five-star athlete R.J. Olson but Miami is hanging strong.

Miami is also trying to hang on to four-star safety Maurice Duncan who is set to go on a very 'promising' visit to FIU this weekend. Duncan's sister and cousin attend FIU, giving the Panthers an outside chance at landing one of the biggest recruits in program history.

North Carolina at Miami Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

North Carolina came into the season with big expectations under junior quarterback Sam Howell. Following early losses to Indiana and Clemson, the Tar Heels just never could recover and as of today, their only win vs. a team with a winning record came against Marshall in the season opener.

A win against No. 1 Miami would turn Howell's disappointing junior season into one for the ages.

The U is back as Miami was named the number one in team in all of the land in both the AP and the BCS rankings. This marked the first time since 2003 that the Hurricanes were on top and they did it by beating two number one teams in three weeks.

Miami can clinch the Coastal during Senior Night with a win or a Virginia Tech loss to Georgia Tech. Miami will also find out who it will be playing in the ACC Championship Game this week should they clinch the Coastal.

If Florida State beats Syracuse, they're in. If Florida State loses and Clemson beats Boston College, Miami will play Clemson.

North Carolina Schedule

Miami rebounds from sloppy first half to dominate UNC, win Coastal division
North Carolina spent the first half dancing on Miami's grave, intercepting Tyrone Williams and flipping the U upside down.

Miami spent the second half making them pay for it.

Miami scored fourteen points in less than a minute to erase their deficit and then shutout the Tar Heels in the second half on their way to a 48-21 win to clinch the Coastal and punch their ticket into the ACC Championship game where they will meet Florida State once more.

Williams was intercepted three times in the first half but spent the second half dicing the North Carolina defense. It was the inverse for Sam Howell who had success in the first but was intercepted twice in the second half.
