Hokies shutout as Hurricanes win first national championship since 2001
For years, kids from Dade and Broward county have been talking about 'making the crib great again' when committing and signing with the Miami Hurricanes.

On Monday, the likes of Nesta Jade Silvera and Gurvan Hall Jr. turned it into a reality.

Miami's defense flexed its muscles once more and shutout Virginia Tech en route to a 19-0 win to give Miami its first BCS title since 2001 and its sixth national championship.

Silvera, an All-American senior, had three sacks in the game. Linebacker Sam Brooks, a product of Dade County, had seven tackles. Al Blades Jr., whose father and uncle played at Miami, had three tackles and a sack.

Offensively, Tyrone Williams did the bulk of the work with 266 yards passing and a touchdown.

‣ Smith lands head coaching job at Pitt

Pittsburgh announced on Tuesday that they have hired former Oregon State head coach and most recently Miami offensive coordinator Jonathan Smith to be their head coach following the firing of Pat Narduzzi.

Heading into the national championship game, Miami was confident that they'd be able to retain the services of Smith but not only did they lose him, they lost him to a divisional foe.

Miami also lost defensive coordinator Emphram Banda to NC State, another ACC school.

Miami reached new offensive heights in Smith's single season at Miami, leading the nation in scoring offense. Smith's potential replacements include fired Arkansas head coach Billy Napier and fire head coach Neal Brown.

‣ Doeren replaces Banda as DC, to take over play-calling duties

Miami announced that former NC State head coach Dave Doeren will be their new defensive coordinator following Emphraim Banda's departure to NC State to take over for Doeren.

After leading NC State to five straight bowls, Doeren's last two seasons ended with a 6-7 and 4-8 record before he was fired last month.

Doeren runs a similar 4-2-5 defense that Miami has ran under Diaz and Banda in the past few seasons. Banda and Diaz shared play calling duties the last two seasons but it is expected that Doeren will be the full-time play caller on defense.

Brown was previously the head coach at Troy University from 2015–2018. Brown has also previously served as the offensive coordinator at Troy (2008–2009) and Texas Tech University (2010–2012) and the University of Kentucky (2013–2014) where he learned the Air Raid offense under the Mike Leach coaching tree.

Brown went 5-7 in each of his three seasons at West Virginia before being dismissed.

Miami struggles during National Signing Day
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Miami came into the day with the tenth ranked recruiting class in the country. After the Florida State weekend where they hosted fourteen elite recruits, many figured Miami would have a top five class only to see some of those same players commit elsewhere. At that point, the Hurricanes were just desperately trying to hold onto their targets, specifically four-star Curtis Corbett.

Corbett's announcement came in early in Miami's favor and it got the ball rolling as Miami landed LOIs from five-star running back R.J. Olson, four-star athlete Maurice Duncan, four-star receiver Dusty Simpson, four-star safety Maurice Duncan and three-star punter Curtis Carter.

The Hurricanes finished the day with the top class in the ACC and the third ranked class in the country, behind only Georgia and Alabama.

Miami was tied with the most five-stars in the class with two along with USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Georgia and Alabama.

Miami did lose out on four-star linebacker Jeff Utley to Georgia and four-star safety Kevin Kiniry to Ole Misss.
