Enos not pleased with performance in 34-0 win over lowly Georgia Tech
Miami won by five touchdowns. It's freshman quarterback, in his homecoming to hometown Atlanta, threw for three touchdowns and just five incompletions. The Hurricanes are winners of nine straight games.

You wouldn't be able to tell based on Miami offensive coordinator Dan Enos' comments after the game.

"We didn't play well enough to win," Enos said of his team's 34-0 win over Georgia Tech to give Miami's ninth win of the season, "Jarren [Williams] didn't play well enough to win, it starts with me but offensively, the performance wasn't good."

Miami had just 42 yards on the ground and finished with just one more first down -- 16 -- than Georgia Tech. Thankfully, Miami's defense was able to hold Georgia Tech to just 261 yards of total offense and just five turnovers. Georgia Tech only crossed the fifty-yard line twice, with both trips ending in missed field goals.

True freshman Jordan Yates threw three interceptions but showed promise with 184 yards against a tough Miami secondary. Dylan Leonard rushed for 74 yards, quite a surprise for Georgia Tech's constipated offense.

Jeff Thomas had four catches for 100 yards with a touchdown, putting together back-to-back 100-yard games for the first time in his career.

‣ Miami lands Williams and Banks, lose out on Tyler Bates

The year is 2024. Tyrone Williams is dropping back, Tyler Bates has evaded his blocker and running back Kirk Banks is stepping up in pass protection to chip the defensive end.

That's what the future looks like.

Miami got verbal commitments from five-star quarterback Tyrone Williams, the top quarterback in the 2020 class, and from four-star running back Kirk Banks, the sixth-ranked running back.

Miami did miss out on five-star defensive end Tyler Bates, who committed to Florida. Miami is also expected to lose out on four-star defensive tackle Jeff Freeman to the Gators, another one of the top prospect out of the state of Florida.

Williams is listed at six-foot-one and 189 pounds and is reputed to be a pocket passer despite his smaller frame. His testing numbers, however, align and are comparable to most of the dual-threat quarterbacks in the class, clocking in a forty-time in the upper 4.6 range.

Speaking of speed, Banks has plenty of it. At five-foot-eleven and 207 pound, Banks is well put together with 4.4 speed but coming out of Castro Valley and not receiving a fourth-star until his senior season, Banks was only recruited by Power 5 schools Wisconsin, Iowa, South Carolina, West Virginia and Florida State with none of the California schools offering him. Miami beat out Utah State to land Banks.

Miami likely isn't done with the running back position as they expect to land Brett Sharp, the five-star running back that is rumored to have ran a 4.30 forty at The Opening. Sharp is considered a 'lock' for the Hurricanes by most pundits but currently does not plan to announce his commitment -- or sign -- until February. That also seems to be the case for number two running back Randy Battle, the big 232-pound back out of Oregon.

‣ Quarterman, Carter and Jordan make finalist cut

Miami senior linebacker Shaq Quarterman and junior safety Amari Carter are among the finalist for the Bednarik Trophy with Quarterman also being a finalist for the Nagurski and the Butkus with Carter also making the Thorpe Finalist list.

Tight end Brevin Jordan made the finalist list as well for the Mackey Award, the sole Miami offensive player to make a finalist list. Deejay Dallas missed the cut for the Maxwell, Walter Camp and Walker trophies.

Dallas leads the team with 910 rushing yards, needing 90 more yards in Miami's final two games to rush for over 1,000 yards for the first time in his career.

Virginia Tech vs. Miami Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Miami (9-1, 6-0) was losers of four straight. There were internal conflicts within the team. Mark Richt was on the brink and so was the program and then Miami came into Blacksburg and dominated the Hokies in a way they hadn't done all season. Virginia Tech, on the other hand, lost their fourth straight on their way to a 6-7 season.

These two meet again under very different circumstances.

When Miami strolls into Blacksburg this time to face off against Virginia Tech (9-1, 5-1), they will be essentially playing for the Coastal. Miami can clinch the division with a win. Virginia Tech can control their destiny with a win. The stakes are raised, just as head coach Manny Diaz wants.

"We want pressurized situations," said Diaz, "We've had a few good games so I think this is sort of a wake up call, sort of a way to put our guys on notice that they're going to see a very good, very motivated football team come Saturday."

Diaz and his defensive staff will try to slow down Virginia Tech's 12th-ranked rushing offense, led by Heisman hopeful Deshawn McClease. McClease, who this off-season entered his name in the transfer portal, decided to stay at Virginia Tech and now has 1,190 rushing yards and 414 receiving yards in a breakout redshirt junior season.

Miami is allowing just 80.3 rushing yards per game while Virginia Tech is averaging 209 per game. Something has to give.

Virginia Tech will have experience over Miami when it comes to quarterback play as Ryan Willis has been a model of consistency. The redshirt senior has just seven interceptions on the year with 26 touchdowns, averaging 241.2 yards per game. Willis threw two interceptions last season in the 38-14 loss to Miami and is looking for payback.

"Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth," said Willis, "The whole season did, for all of us. We're not calling it a revenge game or anything like that. It's just another game for us, it's how we're approaching it but they're a rival so it does add a little bit of juice to it."

Miami leads the rivalry 22-14, winning the last two games comfortably. Miami has won five of the last seven games between the two teams, ending Virginia Tech's three-game winning streak in the rivalry.

Editor's Note: The last few games, I haven't audibled on offense. Going forward, unless my QB has at least 20 starts, they will not have the ability to audible/hot route.

Good move with audibles.

Canes21 has some rules about playbooks and audibles over at OS. They seem very interesting.
