‣ Top strong safety Kevin Whitlock commits to Miami

Miami on Sunday got a commitment from four-star safety and the number one ranked strong safety according to ESPN150 Kevin Whitlock.

Whitlock, listed at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, visited Miami during the Virginia Tech weekend and although he did not commit, the staff felt strongly that he would in the coming weeks.

Despite his size, Whitlock is a cover defensive back that plays with a lot more finesse than the typical safeties that Manny Diaz has recruited for his defense. The four-star safety out of Delaware was also being recruited by USC, Arkansas, UCLA and California.

‣ Commit watch begins

Speaking of California schools.....the top player in the country, WR Ryan Barr, is expected to be on commit watch next weekend when he visits USC.

Miami has already started working on a contingency plan, offering four-star athlete Derek Thompson and Texas juco product Jason Dunn although Dunn projects to be a running back.

Miami also offered South Dakota prospect Keith Williams, a speedy receiver who recently received his third star and is getting recruited by the likes of Texas, Iowa, Wisconsin and Houston.

A few recruits that will be on commit watch are defensive end Tyler Beard and running back Matt Gray with Gray visiting campus this weekend.

Senior Night :: Pittsburgh at Miami Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

When Trajan Bandy jumped Ian Book's pass, the Hard Rock was born that night as the Miami Hurricanes routed Notre Dame and had the program at heights that it had not been in for almost two decades. The first two players to celebrate Bandy's interception in the endzone with him were defensive end Jonathan Garvin and safety Amari Carter, all true freshman.

On Saturday, they along with the rest of that senior class will be honored as the Hurricanes (No. 14 BCS, 9-2, 6-2 ACC) close out the regular season with a home stand against Pittsburgh.

For Miami, this game is more than honoring the six seniors on the team, which also include guard Navaughn Donaldson, receiver Mike Harley and tight end Michael Irvin II. The Hurricanes need to beat the Panthers (6-5, 4-4 ACC) In order to have a shot at winning the Coastal. They'll also need Virginia Tech to lose to Virginia.

might move him to free.

Miami is now actually running more of a 4-2-5 defense lately so going to implement that defense for next season so I could see him playing that single safety role.

‣ Top recruit WR Ryan Barr commits to USC along with former Miami target QB Phillip Davis

USC landed verbal commitments from WR Ryan Barr, the top recruit in the nation, and four-star QB Phillip Davis.

Barr was a Miami target with Miami finishing second as was the case for Davis, who Miami stopped recruiting mid-way through the regular season.

Miami did get a commit in three-star DE Tyler Beard and are now recruiting the nation's top ranked quarterback Jim Crenshaw.

Crenshaw was a long time Michigan commit but recently de-committed. The six-foot-two, 208 pound quarterback also got his fifth star and was upgraded to the nation's top quarterback. Michigan and Michigan State are considered favorites.

‣ Miami expected to play Russell Athletic Bowl

In ESPN's latest bowl projections, Miami is projected to play on December 28th in a matchup against Memphis out of the AAC in the Russell Athletic Bowl which is in Orlando.

Miami last played in the bowl in 2016 where they beat West Virginia which helped sparked the nation's longest game winning streak that Miami went on in 2017. It remains to be seen if offensive coordinator Tavita Pritchard will still be in Miami as he's drawn interest in potential openings at Wake Forest and Vanderbilt.
