‣ Miami lose Anderson to Mississippi State but land nation's top recruit

Miami and Manny Diaz want to put a curtain around South Florida and stop kids like Quincy Anderson from committing to Mississippi State but Miami did sign the nation's top recruit, five-star athlete Tommy Green out of Bixby, Oklahoma.

The state of Oklahoma has been good to Miami, landing four-star linebacker Kevin Jones two seasons ago and four-star guard Mark Sapp in this cycle as well. Sapp was heavily involved in the recruitment of Green.

Green, listed at five-foot-eleven and 187 pounds, played quarterback at Bixby High School this season but in the previous three seasons, Green primarily played defensive back and running back. Miami recruited him to 'compete' at quarterback but most likely end up on the defensive side of the ball.

With four-star athlete Curtis Corbett now leaning towards Kansas, this might change Miami's plans although they still have four-star quarterback Anthony Morris committed in this cycle.

Green is a more traditional, pocket passing quarterback.

‣ Four-star OLB Utley to visit Miami

Once considered a Nebraska lean, Miami had gotten out of the race for four-star Washington linebacker Jeff Utley. Utley announced on his IG story that he will be visiting Miami in two weeks as the 'Canes prepare for the ACC Championship game.

This news comes as a welcomed surprise as many thought it was a race between Georgia and Nebraska for the linebacker. Miami is also making progress on Illinois athlete Travis Johnson, the four-star whose grades issues have caused him to come off certain boards.

‣ Miami lose another in-state defensive tackle to the Gators, secure four-star ATH Swain

You win some, you lose some.

Miami lost defensive tackle Tyler Fernandez, the four-star out of South Ridge, but secured four-star ATH Deshawn Swain.

Fernandez committed to the Gators over the weekend following his official visit. Fernandez was part of the brigade that visited Miami and Miami felt confident that despite him not committing on the spot, they'd be able to keep him from ever getting to Gainesville but that didn't prove to be the case.

Miami is now pursuing three-star athlete Marcel Leak and three-star defensive Chad McMillan as potential replacements for this cycle at defensive tackle.

Miami did get a commitment from Swain, the four-star athlete that projects as a running back at the next level. Swain is a quarterback at Columbus High School in Miami, Florida and lacks elite speed but makes up for it with his physical running style and shiftiness.

He could get some snaps at quarterback during camp since he is a more accurate passer than five-star Tommy Green or even four-star quarterback Anthony Morris.

ACC Championship Game :: Florida State vs. Miami Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

When Miami was added to the ACC, the ACC imagined the two teams routinely having a re-match in the ACC Championship game to culminate their conference's season.

Instead, Miami's been there just once and the last time they won a conference championship was in 2003...in the Big East. That same season, Miami went on to play Florida State in the Orange Bowl where they beat the Seminoles.

At last, they meet again on the big stage.

The Seminoles will look to rebound not only from their loss to Miami earlier this season but also from their loss to Florida where the Gators easily took care of their in-state rivals. In a season where they only dropped two games, those two games being against their biggest rivals is inexcusable.

For Miami, it's a national championship appearance on the line. #3 Stanford plays #8 UCLA while #1 Auburn plays #18 Georgia. They Hurricanes need to not just win but win in such a fashion that voters put them either back at number one or keep them at number two.

Hurricanes take down Florida State en route to likely BCS bid
Miami's defense spent the month after their win against Florida State proving to the college football world that their defense was better than the defense that gave up 35 points to the Seminoles at home.

They proved just that.

Miami allowed just ten points in the 35-10 win over the Seminoles to both win their first ACC championship and likely punch their ticket into the BCS National Championship game.

Florida State running back Khalan Laborn was putting together a strong Heisman campaign before running into the machine that was Miami's defense, holding him to ten yards on his twelve carries. James Blackman was harassed all night while Tyrone Williams and Will Mallory took turn breaking Miami records.

Williams broke the Miami record for most passing yards in a season set by Jarren Williams two seasons ago while Mallory broke decades old records for most catches and most yards in a single season.

Scoring Summary
Quarter 1

‣ Banda takes Navy head coaching job

Miami defensive coordinator will be taking over as head coach at NC State at the turn of the new year.

Banda, who's been the defensive coordinator for two seasons, coached the number one defense in the country and previously served as safeties coach at Miami since 2016. Banda has been a key recruiter for the Hurricanes.

Banda will coach in the National Championship game. Banda's replacement is rumored to be Dave Doeren, who was fired by NC State. Doeren runs a similar scheme that Manny Diaz and Banda have ran at Miami which features five defensive backs.

Miami is optimistic that it will be able to hang onto offensive coordinator Jonathan Smith.

BCS National Championship Game: Miami vs. Virginia Tech Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Miami sophomores LB Kevin Jones and RB Randy Battle appeared on a radio station during the media portion of Championship Week. When the host jokingly asked whether or not Miami was happy that Virginia Tech, a team they've beaten, was chosen among the options for a potential number two team when Auburn lost, Battle shrugged.

Jones chuckled. The radio host kept pushing and eventually, Battle said something.

"It don't make sense to me," said Battle, "We whooped their ass in their own building and they get to play us again? I'm not complaining and they're a good team, a real good team but it's sort of like, we've already proven that we're better than them."

"Way better than them," added Jones.

Battle and Jones' comments were all that was needed to lit a fuse under an intense rivalry that will only get bigger after this game.
