October 31, 2021 - FSUvMIA
Hard Rock Stadium -- Miami Gardens, FL
ABC -- 8:00 PM EST

Hurricanes defense finally get stop on 4th and 9, beat rival FSU
Manny Diaz and Emphram Branda had dialed up the perfect play, freeing up the perfect player for that situation as Bubba Bolden -- the team's leading tackler -- went unblocked on fourth and two.

Bolden whiffed and Khalan Laborn sprinted eleven yards into the endzone to score fourteen points in less than a minute.

"I felt really bad," said Bolden, "I felt like I let my team down."

The next big fourth down play, FSU went to their big bodied tight end and there was Bolden, who secure the tackle this time and sent Miami into a frenzy after their 38-35 win over Florida State in what will go down in the rivalry's rich history as one of its better games.

Miami's methodical offense was able to bleed the clock out, keeping the ball for most of the third quarter and almost the entire fourth quarter.

On the second offensive play of the game, running back Randy Battle fumbled the ball but it was recovered by Miami. With the ball back after Bolden's stop, Miami went back to Battle who took it 39-yards to the one-yard line where Miami took knees to end the game.

The Work by Soap McDope ‣ 247Sports

‣ Miami lands commitment from several players following big recruiting visit

The University of Miami hosted thirteen recruits on Saturday and by Sunday night, they had commits from eight of them.

Four-star quarterback Anthony Morris (Miami, FL), four-star cornerback Casey Watson (Harlingen, TX), four-star running back John Andrews (New Iberia, LA), four-star safety Brendan Rich (Crestwood, MO), four-star guard Mark Sapp (Oklahoma City, OK) three-star offensive tackle Kevin Charles (Miami, FL), three-star offensive guard Manny Curtis (Miami, FL) and two-star juco center Dustin Kendrick (Leisure City, FL) all turned in their commitments by Sunday night with all of them expected to sign in the early signing period in December.

Miami is also now considered to be the favorite for four-star defensive tackle Tyler Fernandez after trailing Florida and Florida State for the past few weeks. Fernandez is scheduled to visit both schools later this season.

As far as the prized recruits of the class in four-star ATH Curtis Corbett and five-star ATH R.J. Olson, Corbett is set to visit Florida State in a few weeks while Olson will visit Clemson this upcoming weekend and Kansas the next weekend after.

‣ Miami goes out-of-state for second half of recruitment calendar

With most of their targets and commits coming from the state of Florida, Miami offered some scholarship to some out of state players at positions that are going to be in need of depth.

Miami offered scholarships to two punts in Barry Mackey out of California and Curtis Carter out of Colorado. Both punters are three-star recruits.

Miami also offered three-star linebackers Marcus Wesley (Illinois), Adam Godfrey (North Carolina) and Matt Moss (Maryland). Miami is expected to be out of the running for #2 OLB Jeff Utley who has yet to scheduled a visit with the Hurricanes.

They also extended offers to four-star ATH Travis Johnson out of Calumet City, IL and three-star tight end Cameron Anderson out of Hayden, ID.

‣ Jones makes semi-finalist cut for defensive trophies

Kevin Jones swept the awards as a true freshman. Despite a slow start to his sophomore campaign, he might do it again.

Jones along with teammate DB Bubba Bolden and LB Sam Brooks were named semi-finalists for the Bednarik with Jones and Bolden making the cut for the Nagurski and Jones and Brooks for the Butkus Award, given to the nation's top linebacker. Bolden also made the Thorpe.

Defensive linemen Jahfari Harvey and Jason Blissett were named Lombardi semi-finalists.

Offensively, QB Tyrone Williams was also a semi-finalist for the Davey O'Brien and TE Will Mallory was a semi-finalist for the Mackey with guard D.J. Scaife Jr. making the Outland Semi-finalist list.

Sophomore running back Brett Sharp made the cut as a punt return for the Randy Moss Award.

Georgia Tech at Miami Preview
Adriana Edwards - Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Last Saturday was a game for the ages, something that many Miami fans and certainly the players will remember for years to come as the Hurricanes not only beat the #1 team, they beat their rival in dramatic fashion.

In two weeks, they'll have the chance to do it all over again when they stroll into Blacksburg. But first, the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech (5-3, 4-2) is technically still in the hunt for the Coastal despite the top two ranked teams in the country residing in their division. They'll need help but with a win at Miami and a win vs. Virginia Tech, they'll just need Miami to lose again vs. either North Carolina or Pitt and for Virginia Tech to lose to Miami or Pitt.

It starts on Saturday though when they'll look to steady what has been a rocky season.

Georgia Tech Schedule
vs. Tulane: W 37-34
at Wake Forest: W 34-28
vs. North Carolina State: W 27-16
at #3 Clemson: L 45-17
at Minnesota: L 24-17
at North Carolina: W 45-31
at Virginia: L 28-21

'Canes burry Georgia Tech behind strong defense, Williams and rushing attack
This was the perfect trap game.

The heat and energy was still radiating from Hard Rock Stadium following Miami's epic victory over rival Florida State the week before. The energy was already buzzing for next week's trip into top-ranked Virginia Tech.

Miami wasn't having none of that trap game nonsense as they jumped out and stayed on the Yellow Jackets, winning the game in commanding fashion with a 56-0 shutout of Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech rushed for -26 yards due to the ten sacks that Miami was able to register, holding them to just 105 yards of total offense. It was a much needed performance for Miami's defense after disappointing performances at Duke and against Florida State.
