Miami and Manny Diaz want to put a curtain around South Florida and stop kids like Quincy Anderson from committing to Mississippi State but Miami did sign the nation's top recruit, five-star athlete Tommy Green out of Bixby, Oklahoma.
The state of Oklahoma has been good to Miami, landing four-star linebacker Kevin Jones two seasons ago and four-star guard Mark Sapp in this cycle as well. Sapp was heavily involved in the recruitment of Green.
Green, listed at five-foot-eleven and 187 pounds, played quarterback at Bixby High School this season but in the previous three seasons, Green primarily played defensive back and running back. Miami recruited him to 'compete' at quarterback but most likely end up on the defensive side of the ball.
With four-star athlete Curtis Corbett now leaning towards Kansas, this might change Miami's plans although they still have four-star quarterback Anthony Morris committed in this cycle.
Green is a more traditional, pocket passing quarterback.
‣ Four-star OLB Utley to visit Miami
Once considered a Nebraska lean, Miami had gotten out of the race for four-star Washington linebacker Jeff Utley. Utley announced on his IG story that he will be visiting Miami in two weeks as the 'Canes prepare for the ACC Championship game.
This news comes as a welcomed surprise as many thought it was a race between Georgia and Nebraska for the linebacker. Miami is also making progress on Illinois athlete Travis Johnson, the four-star whose grades issues have caused him to come off certain boards.
