New England overcomes slow defensive start to rout hopeless Dolphins, 45-14
Ryan Fitzpatrick seemed poised to channel his inner 'Fitzmagic' once again, throwing touchdown passes of 58 and 74 yards on the first five offensive plays of the day.

New England countered each explosive, two-play drive with methodical, nine-plus play drives of their own, taking the energy out of Hard Rock Stadium. And they pounded the Dolphins.

Antonio Brown caught seven passes for 153 yards in his Patriots debut as New England shutout the Dolphins for the next three quarters in the 45-14 win on Sunday.

Brown, making his first appearance for the team since being signed following a turmoil filled off-season, was his usual productive self. His second catch went for 72 yards, setting up Josh Gordon's 3-yard touchdown catch.

Gordon finished the day with two touchdowns on his four catches for 31 yards. Julian Edelman also had four catches for 82 yards while Tom Brady's favorite target was James White with eleven catches for 82 yards and a score. White, like Brown, was making his return to his hometown of Miami.

For New England, they got to finally put a rest to the Antonio Brown drama and get to playing football while also exorcising their Miami demons after losing on a lateral play in Miami last season.

They did so by shutting down Miami's passing attack following those two big plays. Fitzpatrick, who had 153 yards in the first quarter, finished with 279 passing yards and two interceptions. The Dolphins also got just 22 yards on the ground as they found themselves trailing and trying to keep up with New England.

Patriots to trade WR Demaryius Thomas to Jets
NFL.com

With Antonio Brown coming to town, the New England Patriots receivers room got really crowded really fast. The team remedied that "problem" Tuesday.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, 10-year veteran wideout Demaryius Thomas is being traded to the Jets in exchange for a 2021 sixth-round draft pick. Barring any unforeseen holdups, the trade would be the first between the teams since 2000 -- when Bill Belichick, fresh off a one-day stint as Jets head coach at the time, was traded to New England for three draft picks, per NFL Research.

The Thomas trade would also mean that Belichick has now made a deal with every NFL team since taking over as the Patriots' fearless leader 19 years ago.

ESPN first broke the news of Thomas' pending departure.

On a roster that now includes Brown, Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, among others, the 31-year-old receiver found himself the odd man out in Foxborough after a roller-coaster of a five-month stretch.

Thomas signed as a free agent in April and spent the bulk of the offseason and training camp recovering from the torn Achilles he suffered in Week 16 as a member of the Texans last season. He was released on cutdown deadline day and re-signed a few days later on Sept. 2.

He made his return to the field in the Patriots' preseason finale against the Giants and recorded seven catches for 87 yards and two TDs. In the team's Week 1 drubbing of the Steelers, Thomas saw no playing time.

In his 15 appearances in 2018 -- he played the last seven in Houston following a midseason trade from Denver -- Thomas contributed 59 receptions, 677 yards and five touchdowns.

Drafted 22nd overall by the Broncos in 2010, Thomas enjoyed a fruitful eight-year tenure at Mile High, making five consecutive Pro Bowl appearances (2012-16) and winning a Super Bowl ring in 2016. Thomas' career totals include 688 receptions, 9,330 receiving yards and 62 TDs.

New York Jets at New England Patriots
DynastySports.com

The last time the New England Patriots lost a football game to the New York Jets, Sam Darnold was redshirting at USC as a college freshman. The last time the Patriots lost at home to the Jets, Darnold was an eight grader playing wide receiver and linebacker. The last time the Patriots lost a home during the regular season to the Jets? He was eleven.

The Jets are 0-2 and seemingly playing for their season not even a month into the 2019 campaign under new head coach Adam Gase. Going way back to 1980, there have been 173 teams to start a season 0-3, with only five of them going on to make the playoffs — a whopping 2.8 percent. The last team to start 0-3 and make the playoffs was the 1998 Bills, who followed up their 0-3 start with five straight wins.

It doesn't get easier for the Jets after this as they travel to Philadelphia and then are home to Dallas and then the Patriots. It seems more likely that they'll be 0-6 than 4-2.

"We have to get some wins," says running back Le'Veon Bell, the big free agent signing for the Jets over the off-season.

Bell is averaging 100 yards on the ground and 54 yards as a receiver, living up to his contract. Darnold's play has also improved thanks to Bell, completing 71 percent of his passes. But the offense looks limited and restricted under Gase, as shown by Darnold's 7.6 yards per attempt.

Darnold gets some help by way of New England with the team trading receiver Demaryius Thomas to the Jets on Tuesday. Thomas is expected to suit for the Jets against his former team, who he played just one preseason game before he was cut, signed and then traded all within the span of a few weeks.

Their defense, after some big signings, still look meek. They're bottom six in yards allowed, passing defense, points allowed, quarterbacks pressures and turnovers with just one to their name. They'll be coming into Foxborough to face the number one ranked total offense, passing offense, rushing offense, scoring offense and most first downs.
