Patriots release WR Antonio Brown amid allegations
NFL.com

The Antonio Brown era in New England lasted less than two months.

The Patriots released the wide receiver on Friday amid allegations of sexual assault.

"The New England Patriots are releasing Antonio Brown," the team said in a statement. "We appreciate the hard work of many people, but we feel that it is best to move in a different direction at this time."

Brown took to social media immediately following news of his release breaking. The receiver thanked New England for the opportunity, alongside photos of his lone game played with the team.

Brown spent just six games with the organization after he was released by the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 7. He agreed to a one-year deal with the Patriots that day and signed it on Sept. 9. Brown's deal included a $9 million signing bonus, but it wasn't all due at signing, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported. It's unclear how much New England compensated Brown for his short stay in Foxborough.

"It's unfortunate things didn't work out with the Patriots," Brown's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, tweeted following the receiver's release. "But Antonio is healthy and is looking forward to his next opportunity in the NFL. He wants to play the game he loves and he hopes to play for another team soon."

Brown was productive in his short stint with the team. He led the NFL in receiving yards (741) and touchdowns (9) and was fourth in the league in receptions (42) despite playing just six of the seven games this week.

Replacing Brown for the Patriots will likely be a mix of Phillip Dorsett II and Cameron Meredith, who recently came off the PUP list. Meredith caught sixty passes in 2016 with the Chicago Bears but injuries over the last two seasons has saw him play just six games since then.

The team also expects to have rookie N'Keal Harry healthy by week 12 against Dallas, opening up a chance for him to come off the IR and play this season.

Cleveland Browns at New England Patriots Preview
DynastySports.com

Coming into the regular season, the Cleveland Browns were the talk of the league. They traded for Odell Beckham Jr., signed the likes of Kareem Hunt and reinforced a defense that looked poised to be the top in the league. New England, meanwhile, was quiet.

Almost halfway into the season, the only undefeated team in the league: the New England Patriots.

Sunday will be one of the most anticipated matchups of the season with Baker Mayfield and 'new money' Cleveland trying to go into Foxboro and take what belongs to New England; being the top dog in the AFC and the heavy favorites to win the Super Bowl.

Cleveland has won three straight to overcome their slow 1-2 start and now sit just two games behind the second seed in the AFC which currently belongs to the surprising 6-1 Tennessee Titans, who beat Cleveland in the first week of the season. At 4-2, Cleveland's offense has not been the explosive one it was predicted to be. Their passing offense ranks 24th in the league despite having Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry as their top two receivers along with the signing of Dez Bryant.

Bryant's been a welcome addition, catching 21 passes for 207 yards and giving the offense a big body around the goal-line. New England matches up well -- as well as anyone could -- in the secondary. Stephon Gilmore figures to get the most of Beckham Jr. with Jonathan Jones likely matching up with Jarvis Landry in the slot and Jason McCourty on the outside with Dez Bryant.

This could be a potential match up game for rookie Joejuan Williams with his six-foot-three frame as he could also get some playing time near the endzone to guard Dez Bryant.

Speaking of receivers, New England will be without their leading receiver in Antonio Brown, who they cut amid sexual assault allegations.

Mayfield injured in 20-14 loss to Brady, Patriots
Jamie Collins won't be buying property in Cleveland any time soon.

The former all-pro linebacker was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2016, signed a $50 million extension and never lived up to expectations before being released and eventually brought back to New England.

On Sunday, he strip sacked Baker Mayfield which led to a defensive touchdown and Mayfield dislocating his knee while Collins stood over him in New England's 20-14 win over the Browns.

Drew Stanton led a scoring drive in the fourth quarter but New England was able to ice out the clock with their running attack of Sony Michel and James White.

White rushed for 78 yards while Michel added a strong 40.

Offense was all the rave coming into the game but it was defense that dominated early on as Cleveland scored on their first possession thanks to a questionable pass interference call that negated an interception. The Browns offense was shutout for the rest of the half while Tom Brady and Co. only reached the endzone once as well in the first half.

It all changed in the second half when Mayfield was stripped with 4:18 left in the third quarter and John Simon, an Ohio native, returned the fumble for an interception.

Collins said after the game that he wasn't standing over Mayfield to intimidate him.

"I was just standing there," Collins said, "I didn't hear no whistle so I wasn't sure if it was a live ball or what so it wasn't anything like that."

Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry along with a few other Browns players took exception as their quarterback left on a stretcher.

Prior to the injury, Mayfield was 12 of 21 for 102 yards with one touchdown.

Seems like the offense is already feeling AB being gone.
